Hey friends! Last week was the 13th anniversary of starting this little blog of mine and now it’s time to celebrate with a blog anniversary giveaway! 13 years is a long time in the blogging world. My youngest son was only 6 months old when I started and he’s now 13 and taller than me! Oh my where does the time go?
Back when I first started blogging, it was a fairly new thing. People loved reading and commenting on blogs. I remember whenever I’d hit publish on a new post I would sit and wait and within five minutes the comments would start coming in. It was so fun to comment back and forth on whatever the organizing dilemma happened to be that day. It was one of my very favorite parts of blogging. The community and the connection it provided.
However just because people aren’t really commenting anymore doesn’t mean blogging is dead. I can see from my analytics that I still have readers (thank you!!) searching for organizing help. So I keep doing what I’m doing. It’s a little harder for me in some ways though. For instance, not having littles anymore makes it harder for me to share organizing solutions for kid stuff. I’d like to find a new contributor with young ones to help fill that void. If you know anyone, with awesome organizing and photography skills, send them my way!
Another goal of mine is give this tired blog a little freshen up. I’ve had this particular design for quite some time because I love it so much. But it could use a fresh coat of paint and maybe some new wallpaper. I think I’ve put it off for so long though because finding someone to work with that is as detail oriented as I am is pretty tough. Details make all the difference and they are important to me. If you have any requests that you’d like to see in a blog renovation please let me know. Ultimately I want you to have a great experience when you visit me here. Oh and if you know of a great blog designer, drop their website into the comments or send me an email. Thank you!
Stay Up to Date:
How do you follow my blog? Are you aware when I post new content? I just wanted to post a reminder here of the various ways you can stay up to date with all my organizing content and posts. Because you totally want to right? Please say yes!
Email – the simplest, most effective way to stay up to date with the content I share is to sign up to receive emails from me. Every time I publish a new post, an email is automatically sent to you. I will also occasionally send out Org Junkie Extra emails with subscriber only content.
Feedly – Feedly is a blog reader hub that allows you to enter the url of your favorite sites and consolidates them all into one spot. Every time a new post is published it will appear in your “news feed”. Feedly also has an app available in both the Google Play and iTunes stores.
Instagram – I love Instagram. It really is a favorite of mine probably because I’m such a visual person. Since I’m under 10,000 followers there though, I still don’t have the swipe up feature. This makes it a little more difficult to link posts for you in the Stories section. However I do try to let you know when I have a new post up through the link in my Instagram bio. This bio link takes you to this page which consolidates all the posts I’ve recently shared.
Facebook – I always publish to Facebook every time I have a new post up but of course FB doesn’t always show this info to everyone that follows me there. To up your chances of seeing my content it’s important to like, comment and share my posts on FB so that FB recognizes I’m an Organizing Junkie as someone you want more information from. You should then start seeing my posts more regularly in your news feed.
Pinterest – Another visual place to hang out. I have boards there that are organized by areas of your house that you might be wanting to get organized. It makes it super easy to see all relevant information on one particular topic. See all my Pinterest boards right HERE. Remember to click on the follow button so new posts from me show up in your news feed.

I have been reading with feedly since the end of Google reader
Amy W says
I used Bloglovin when Google
Reader ended. But now I usually see it on Instagram.
I struggle with Clothing/Laundry!
Nancy M says
I also have been following you with Feedly since google reader ended. My most difficult area of organizing? End tables by the couch!
Robin Waibel says
I follow through Feedly as I like to read on my own time! If I get a lot of emails, it makes me anxious! I have read and loved your blog for a long time!
Muriel says
Feedly is what I use to follow blogs. Organizing kids toys and a small kitchen are our challenge areas.
Michelle says
My continuous struggle is in my craft/library/office/quiet-mom-only space. I’ve brutally culled the excess, and organized the rest, but every time I turn around, my desk is cluttered. My book shelves have to perform quadruple duty but I’m convinced that there’s a system or a caddy or something that I haven’t yet come up with.
Kathryn says
My biggest current organizing dilemma is that we are in the midst of planning some home updates/renovations and/or waiting on the contractor to complete his work. As a result many items need to be boxed up or temporary homes found for them, ie the printer and office supplies.
susan says
I recently found your blog and have MS. You are an incredible help to me
Jill says
I use Feedly and love keeping up with your blog.
Kim says
I struggle with organizing my closets!

Samantha M. says
Another feedly follower here. The area I have most problems with is clothes, sorting & storing them seasonally.

My problem is my desk. It’s like a catch-basin. Everything lands there until I finally get around to sorting and organizing it into it’s proper home…not often enough.
Tracie Cooper says
I have the most challenges with organizing paperwork and finding important papers when I need them!
Rachel Gagot says
I’m having a baby soon so I’m trying to keep all the baby stuff organised.
Erin says
I struggle with papers. My oldest just started school this year and it feels like he brings home 30 trees worth every single day.
Becky Lowmaster says
I am always keeping too many papers. Pile things on dining room table. Someone comes over? Then a bunch of it goes in a bag and put somewhere out of sight. Sigh! Need to let go of stuff I really have looked at for months!!
Elizabeth Jaggers says
I have been with you for the WHOLE 13 years!! You have helped me learn to conquer a lot of my clutter, which allowed me to look at things that cluttered my personal life and conquer that too!! I am learning to manage my time much better these days, thanks to you and some of your “sister bloggers”. I still struggle with mail and paper clutter/system the most, right now (sigh!). I get your emails and I follow you on FB, YouTube, and always read your blogs. I have never won anything yet – fingers crossed this time! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LAURA!!!
Jess says
My struggle is all the kid paraphernalia:). Shoes. Coats. Gloves. Hockey gear. There is just so much:)

Whitney says
Congrats, Laura! I follow you (and all the blogs I read) on Bloglovin. Am I old school? Haha! I totally agree that blogging has changed, even in the 6 years that I’ve been blogging – but I also agree that people still read blogs! The area of my home that I struggle most with organization is my home office. Everywhere else is tidy and organized…but not so much in here. LOL.
Kristie McConney says
My whole house needs to be organized but if I had to pick one spot I guess I’d go master bedroom.

Amma Peg says
My house “almost always” looks neat…but don’t open a closet door! I guess I’m an out-of-sight-out-of-mind kind of gal. I have a big storage closet in the basement and it has a paper sign designating it as “My Dirty Little Secret”. Your blog…loved it then, love it now and always will!
Tabitha says
My biggest struggle is the garage and basement storage area!
Leesa Haines says
I use my car for work, so I carry a lot of random things around with me. It is so unorganized. The other day I had to pick up my coworker and it took me 5 minutes just to clear her a spot to sit!
Laura Ann says
I struggle pretty much everywhere, being a single mom of three boys (ages 23, 13 and 6). They are helpful if I ask, but I have to ask constantly! Oh well, I figure that this is only a season, and I’ll miss those messy boys ??
Christine A says
Time management
Kenda Schuette says
My most unorganized area is my bathroom. With 4 men/boys they dont seem to understand putting things away!!@
Jennifer says
PAPER CLUTTER! I will do real well clearing it all up one week and then the next there’s different clutter that needs to be dealt with.
Ashley says
My biggest struggle comes from 2 make areas. The first is my fiance and so. They are the hoarders to my purging. We recently downsized our house to 1/2 the square footage but they refused to get rid of ANYTHING because “that’s what the basement is for”. The second area I struggle with is kitchen stuff. Our kitchen is so tiny and while I want to get rid of things, I have not having a gadget when I need it, so that is my weakness
carolyn says
I’m struggling with getting rid of my kids’ stuff now that we’re trying to downsize. They don’t want it and I feel bad getting rid of it!

Keeping on top of the progress I’ve made

Melissa Anderson says
My problem areas are the counter just inside the backdoor, where I drop the mail, kid papers, recycling to go out, soda cans to go out, bug spray, sunscreen, coupons I still want to use, pens…it’s a SMALL counter. I really need to get on that and find a better system.
April Spolnicki says
I follow you through Feedly, email, Instagram and Pinterest. Love all your posts!
Amy says
The kitchen island and closet are the worse – a never ending struggle when you’re the only one who values a tidy, organized space 🙂
I’ve been following you on Feedly ever since google did away with their blog reader!
Kristie says
Definitely my kids toys, any organization system I seem to put in can’t stay organized or stay fluid enough for the ever changing toys they play with.
jen smith says
I struggle with my clothes the most. I live in a small house with small closets and its is so hard for me to come up with something !

Emily says

Sarah says
I struggle with closets!!! Everything just gets thrown in there to hide!
Donna Lacey says
I really struggle with our home office/craft room. I have chipped away at decluttering but piles of paper, extra Christmas stuff, photos, Sephora samples, etc….keep covering the desk. And there are bags and boxes under the desk. I bought the IKEA Raskog cart, but before I could plan how to best utilize it, it too became filled ? Still trying to make progress and I love your blog and Instagram Laura ? Thank you for all the excellent tips.
Faye says
My office! I’m not sure why but my office/desk (which is in my home) is always a mess. I think I’m a visual person and if I’m working on something I keep it out – there has to be a better way! I’ve been following you for a long time – always helpful advice!!
Beth DuBord says
I get emails from you when you have new a new post.
My biggest challenge is getting my husband to let go of the things we don’t use or need. He’s a bit of a packrat. Clutter drives me crazy but he doesn’t even notice it.
Faye says
Already commented – but forgot to say Happy Anniversary!! 🙂

My current area of concern is the kitchen in a home we just bought. It’s an old home Over 150 years old) and the kitchen cupboards are tiny and old. I really need to work hard to organize this area.
Daniella Lobo-Rauch says
I started reading your blog for almost a year I think and I’ve implemented a lot of your tips around the house. I think my biggest struggle is keeping/maintaining everything in order for the most part. I start one task and suddenly I’m doing another…Thank you for dedicating your time to make our lives easier. 13 years is a HUGE accomplishment ! Congratulations !
stacey says
I need to organize my desk, and my recipes!
Pamela says
I follow you on email, IG, and Pinterest. I don’t read all the posts, only the ones I think I can mangage. I have used lots of the suggestions. My most unmanagable problem right now is storing my home decor. I love to rotate things for the seasons, but have no idea how to store it so I can see what I have. I am sure I would buy much less if I could just use what I have. My husband and I are in the process of putting new shelves in a large closet for this purpose. But after this is done, I won’t know what to do in the next step. Perhaps that would be an idea for a future blog post. Thank you for all that you do for us.
*Smiles*
Liesel says
I struggle with my laundry room. I love your blog!

I’m in a weird station. In August my youngest is going to sixth grade (sad face), and I’m starting my 32nd year of teaching. Our home demonstrates the craziness of go-here-do-this life!
Our house is now paid for, so I’d like to reorganize or remodel as necessary to accommodate our daily lives.
Lori says
Closets! Hall closet, bedroom closets, bathroom closets, office area closet, pantry are always cluttered! Just close the door and it’s out of sight! But the mess lingers on…

Struggle to get the office and closets under control. I’m a very organized person however taking care of my child with special needs, and dealing with my chronic pain doesn’t leave me time, so in my case time is the culprit! Love your tips.
Melissa says
My youngest child’s room. We just don’t go through often enough to remove his outgrown items, plus he’s a little pack-rat-ish, so moving things to new homes is challenging…
Bonnie Dingwall says
The hardest area of organizing for me is the type of organizers in our house. I like minimal clutter, hubby likes piles, kids like ‘visual clean’ but not logical. I try to work with that by coming up with systems but we still need a lot of work. I get comments all the time that our house is messy/ or we are running out of space. Really, we need to declutter a little and effectively organize our lives.
Amanda Barre says
Paperwork and filing are always the hardest for me.

Rita Anne H says

I struggle with my teens rooms! They like to live in a mess I guess but I haven’t given them the best tools to work with. I get your emails but I come directly to the blog everyday from my favorites on my browser…I’m always very happy when there’s a new post up! Thanks for all you do, I’ve been reading a long time.
Shelly Daugherty says
I am subscribed thru email. The area I have the most challenge with is my bedroom ! That should be my haven but instead it’s a cluttered mess . I just don’t know what to do with all the things in my bedroom !

Kayleen says
I have a 13 year old as well — but a girl and I am struggling with the transition from girl to young woman. What do I do with all the toys that she’s not ready to part with? How best to organize clothes for a teen that couldn’t be bothered? Ay caramba…
Deb Lawhorne says
My biggest struggle is paper clutter. It seems to be everywhere! I hate it! However, I am in the process of going paperless. I’ve learned all about it, have downloaded the required apps, and am getting ready to buy an external hard drive so I can back everything up. I also just got a new shredder so that I can shred every single piece of paper that I scan and can keep digitally! I am so excited to get started!

Ynaffit says
I still need to properly organize my thoughts so I don’t have lists and piles everywhere! I think everything else will follow in suit if I can organize my brain!!! Other than that, I’m still a piler… I need to quit making my own piles around the house!!
Amy S. says
I struggle with daily routines to keep organized. I am pretty clutter free, but sometimes have trouble maintaining an organized cleaning schedule for laundry, dusting, etc. I think I’ve been following you for around 8 years now, although I rarely comment. Love your blog 🙂
Beth says
clutter is my pet peeve. I work hard to get things put away and organized, then as soon as I turn my back my husband has deposited more stuff. The other big issue is that I get mostly through a task and do not get to finish it; then it is just like I did nothing at all.
Mary Perkins says
My whole life needs organizing! But my crafting areas are a mess! I have a general crafting area, a quilting area and a painting area-better known as my bedroom, my actual workroom and my kitchen! I need HELP!
Ruth says
My trouble spots are my desk and craft room.
Carol says
I am currently struggling with my son moving out, my spouse moving out and my second son and I trying to make a comfy home, while preparing to sell in the next year and move to a smaller home. I’m not sure what I get to ‘keep’ in the separation process and what space I will have when I move to my new life! Chaos is my current state. I love your down to earth posts and Canadian content!!

Terry F. says
The worst area for me is beside my bed.
Thanks. ?
Terri Alesandro says
I shouldn’t have read the comments as I scrolled to the bottom as each one was like “oh, yes, that is me”. I feel my biggest problem is paper clutter and email clutter. If I put things away (or file emails) they are gone from sight and mind. So I use them as my reminder and to do lists and it gets out of hand. Congratulations on your blog. I am just starting mine (not yet published) and appreciate all the work. I love reading about organization and it makes me feel that I can do it, until I try. 🙂 I also live with someone who does.not.like.change (and I love to change things up) so reorganzing the kitchen, for example, makes him crazy because he can’t find anything. I put my blog site up though it isn’t published.
Jori Bates says
I follow using Feedly. 🙂
I struggle keeping things organized with three children in the house. I feel like as soon as I clean or organize an area, five minutes later my family has turned it into a disaster again. It makes it hard to find the motivation to do it.
Michelle J. says
I struggle with things that don’t have a home.

I struggle with all aspects of organizing! I have a terrible time staying focused. It seems one thing requires me to do something else before I can do the main project! Ugh!! Meal planning is another horrible chore for me! I don’t know how to cook for only two!
ilovethemso says
Thank you for doing this fun giveaway! I have been reading your blog since the beginning and used to blog for that first year along with you. We chatted in the comments on both of our blogs back then! I still LOVE your blog.
My biggest need is for help organizing all the homeschool and craft supplies! I’m exciting you’re planning to add more tips for younger children. I have teens and one young one.
Rachel says
I don’t necessarily struggle with the actual organizing aspect–I love organizing!–but finding the time to keep things organized, get on a schedule, etc. So I guess my main struggle would be organizing my schedule… and mostly sticking to it! Our family schedule is super crazy, so it’s hard for me as a girl still staying at home (and currently without a job) to stick to a consistent schedule.
Tracey says
My biggest struggle is finding the time to do the big cleaning jobs, like wiping down walls, windows and carpets. I started working full time after being a stay at home mom for 20 years.
Amy says
The kitchen table is the dump-all area. Usually by Friday we are moving stuff out of the way to sit down to eat. I’d like to stay better organized with incoming mail, household papers, holding zone things that end up on the table.
Lisa Gribler says
Desk & office area! Argh!
Janice says
My biggest struggle is having very limited closet and drawer space. I try to rotate clothing by seasons for myself and children, but it is overwhelming. We like to buy used for economic and environmental reasons, and save donated clothing for the future as the children grow. But constantly rotating and sorting is a chore.
Yvonne says
Energy. I go months and I am fine with cleaning and decluttering and then I have some physical issue and I am unable. Meanwhile, the clutter builds up.

I struggle with day to day clutter and also what to do with grown children’s clutter. Love your blog!

I struggle with disorganization! Having many health issues, I just need help getting my life organized so that on days I am not feeling well, I can still get my stuff together and feel like something good has come of my day! BTW, I read you via e-mail and on Facebook. Congrats on your blogiversary!

Judy A Dewberry says
I struggle most with keeping my countertops cleared of clutter.
Sarah Shoemaker says
Organization in general really. But a big one is with organizing my kid’s toys.
Andi McDonald says
I struggle the most with keeping my craft room clean. It seems to become the dumping grounds for all sorts of random stuff, as well as all of the projects I work on. I tend to have multiple projects going on at the same time and no real organization system for keeping works in progress. It can easily turn into mass chaos in there!
Jeana Ball says
As my boys grew up, I didn’t purge like I needed to. I have a house that truly needs to be edited. I am hoping this summer I can start making some progress. On the up side, my office is more organized than it’s ever been.
Alicia Adams says
My current organizing struggle is craft supplies. I work with children, and we make a lot of art projects. I subscribe to your blog through email.

Lately, I’ve been struggling with finding the right routines to fit our crazy schedule. I work from home, plus we homeschool, and my husband’s job is crazy long hours. To top it all off, we’re possibly moving again in just two short months. It’s been a hectic year for sure.
Kiy says
My biggest problem area is the tween’s room/study space. She has a separate bedroom and then a loft space that we’ve turned into a study/drawing area. She doesn’t want anyone in there, and yet she has stuff everywhere! I can’t handle the mess, she doesn’t want help tidying it up. It’s an ongoing battle.
gabriela banales says
My most difficult area in keeping organized would be my kids’ clothes. They outgrow everything so fast it’s hard to keep up. Sometimes they even leave brand new clothes, never worn, and I hate getting rid of those. I place those in a basket to giveaway or sometimes it’s just forgotten. I try to keep up, but it’s just hard to do on a regular basis.
Lee says

My struggle currently is everywhere. Packing up my family and moving to Italy in 3 weeks. We have gotten rid of a ton of stuff but I fear setting up our new home will be a challenge. Starting fresh with a clearly defined system of organization in all areas of our home is going to be a challenge but critical to our overall happiness!

Anita says
I struggle keeping my home life organized as I juggle my work life. I seem to be the one who is in charge of organizing things and keeping tabs on everyone, ensuring they are putting things back which I struggle with (don’t have time). Areas I struggle the most is my office area (bills and holy kid school papers!), the kitchen since it’s the first room entered when my family gets home and things get dropped and left in there all-the-time – (sigh) – not to mention it’s the first room guests see. It’s a never ending battle. HELP! 🙂

Paper clutter for sure! I know in theory what I could do to make it easier and yet I still end up with piles.
