Earlier this week I mentioned my disappointment over the beautiful basket that was stolen right out of my hands. What I didn’t tell you is that during that same trip I was able to score a deal of my own before anyone else even saw it. Oh yes I did!
Do you want to see it?
Readers, meet my new chest:
Isn’t it lovely?! It’s not very large but it certainly seems solid and dependable which is what everyone should look for in a good chest don’t you think? It might be a little dinged up but I think that just gives her some character.
Now here’s the best part.
Wait for it.
I purchased this little beauty for $6.99 at Value Village!
Fab + functional = sweet!
Right now I have it just sitting there waiting for a home. I happen to love this “in waiting” period as I spend some time gazing lovingly at any new container I get imagining all the possibilities for it. The choices are wide open on this one though and I just can’t decide.
So this is where you come in. Help me narrow it down by telling me what YOU would put in it and where you think it should go.
If it helps you any please feel free to take your time admiring my beautiful little chest for awhile. No worries, I totally understand.

I think it would be great to put blankets and games in for the family room.
Catharine says
What an AWESOME little chest and an even better price!!! Im such a sucker for cheap decor that doubles at storage.
Cathy says
I have a similiar container and I keep it right beside my chair. Inside I have all the books and magazines that I have waiting to be read.

You crack me up – I can imagine you sitting there admiring your chest, thinking about ways of using it. 😉 I totally understand that, I am the same way! Have fun with your new baby – great buy!

It just screams “fabric” to me.
Beth (A Mom's Life) says
I have some great “memory items” – things my kids have made, greeting cards from my husband, etc. that I just have stashed in my closet and I would love to have a chest at the foot of my bed to store them in.
That’s what I would do with it.
Jessica says
What a cute chest!! You are right there are so many things you could use it for. I don’t know if I could decide on just one! LOL! 🙂
Chrissey says
I like to use items like this for surprising things. To store things that don’t look like they belong in it! I’d place it in the living room, but store game controllers and such in it. Or outside the bathroom to store extra rolls of toilet paper.
Marianne says
Ditto the reading material that seems to spread around here…

I love a bargain, and that is one fab bargain.
Niki says
It is hard to tell the size but if it is large enough you could place at the end of a bed and store out of season clothes or linens. I keep each rooms linens stored in their respective room. My son’s winter linens are in a small chest at the foot of the bed. We have a large one in our bed that stores similar items like linens and heavy robes and slippers. When winter hits I toss my lighter sheets and thin blankets in there and haul out the heavy stuff.
Annie says
Oh your chest looks lovely!! I put magazines and books in my fab new basket, you could do that in your chest.
Hey I haven’t found anything that you were missing, but if it makes you feel better I think the box of underwear I got went flying out as well…we should have listened and got the bungie cord!!
Jennifer Clark says
oh, i would SO be putting all my fabric stash in there!! great find!!
Beth Laverty says
I posted earlier but it still hasn’t shown up.
I would use the box my camera and accoutrements because that is something I need….. I like the idea of the memory box too…

Total score!! Nice piece:-)

I just saw in a magazine where someone turned their chest into a filing cabinet. It was awesome.
I’m not that original. We have an antique one in our bedroom that has a few things in it.
Carla says
That is an awesome chest! Wish I could get a new chest for that price! 😉
If *I* had it in *MY* house (can you tell I’m jealous???), I’d probably use it in the living room to store either magazines or games in. OR, put it in my daughter’s room for all her dress up stuff…she’d love that.

I’ve been looking for a chest of this sort and can never find the right size. My dad died six years ago and I want to store some of the keepsakes, etc. of his in one place. That’s what I would store in the chest.
Susanne says
Keepsakes would be my first thought. Great find Laura!
Amy says
I would use it in my living room for either blankets as someone else suggested OR to put all those little annoying things that come with the Wii, you know…remotes, games, accessories. I wish I could find a deal like that! Wow!
Sandy says
Can’t tell if your basket is the right size for this but I have a large basket next to my bed that holds slippers. Your chest reminds me of an antique slipper chest I saw on a homes tour once.
orneryswife says
Looks like a great place to hide Christmas presents purchased ahead of time!

I would put my Bible, notebook, glasses and a pen. Then they would have a home, and I’d know where they are when I need them. Also, any other books you are studying/ reading. Happy find!
Beth B. says
I would use it to store extra totes/wallets/bags – maybe even scarves/gloves/mittens too, and keep it in my beddroom – good luck making a decision; can’t wait to hear where it will go in your house. Great find!
The Chatty Housewife says
I would put it near the back door for all my dog paraphernalia.
Or store all my thank you note and letter writing stuff in it.
SheSue says
Where’s the pirate in all of you? My first thought was of my son-in-law who loves pirates. The chest needs to be filled with great treasures.
Teria says
I would use it first for Halloween—that’s where I would put my candy that I hand out–neighborhood kids would love it! Then I would put it under the Christmas tree with wrapped gifts in it. Guess I would keep holiday-multi-purposing it!
Melissa says
I like the idea of using it for magazines & books or games, though we have WAY too many games to put in that little chest. The first idea I had is, if you’re bathroom is big enough, you could roll up bath towels and put them in it, though maybe it’s too big for towels. Anyway, whatever you use it for it was a FABULOUS purchase.
Chelsea says
Come look what I just got. It’s right up your alley.
Kathryn says
It looks like a kids pirates chest!
However, it might not be kid safe for younger ones.
I don’t do Halloween, but it would look cool to have dry ice or a smoke machine with the smoke billowing out of chest and the candy at top middle some how.
Jeana says
I was looking for a special chest, right before I clicked on your blog! I would use your recent find to store memories for my children, of their childhood. My children were born in China, and I have saved their clothes from adoption day, their bottles, favorite books, favorite clothes, letters I’ve written to them, DVDs of art work, etc. You’ve inspired me that I can find something without paying a small fortune! Enjoy!

How cute! I agree with a few of the others … I think I would also put blankets or reading material in it.
Kate McDonald says
Wow! That is really cool!
MY husband does all of his best bargain hunting at Value Village!!!
Sandra says
Oh I love it, it would go in my living room with blankets, games and books for those cool nights.

What about making a stationary kit… Mine is ugly plastic box but I use it all the time. You could fill yours with fun pens, assorted cards, stationary, stickers for sealing envelopes and stamps. Put it next to your favorite chair and you can write letters to family, thank you cards for gifts and the dreaded Christmas Cards all while watching a show. I find I like doing things much better if all of my supplies are gathered and neatly contained!
