You know what I’m tackling today? Something I despise doing and that I put off doing for as long as possible….my filing! I know it is time to file when the basket I have designated as my “to file pile” gets full to the top.
That basket is the limit that I set for myself and it is full and so it is time…I must file. Uggg. I shudder to imagine how long I might allow myself to go without filing if I didn’t have a self-imposed limit.
Does it seem odd that an organizing junkie doesn’t like to file? Perhaps it is because I’m filing into file folders and not nice little containers that I can arrange and rearrange to my hearts content over and over again. Let’s face it, file folders are boring and having colored ones doesn’t help either, I’ve tried it…lol. You know what is really funny about my disdain for filing? When I finally sit down to do it I’m always surprised about how little time it actually takes to get it done. So I’m going to do it today and I’m going to be feel great when it’s done knowing that I can sit back and relax until the next time the basket gets full!
How about you? What chore do you find yourself always putting off and does it or would it help you to have a self-imposed limit?
Thanks to 5 minutes for moms for helping moms everywhere!

Perhaps you hate the drudgery of filing because you have terrible childhood memories of paper cuts 🙂 !! I always seem to get paper cuts when I am filing.
Good luck with your chore!
P.S. I love the layout and colors of your blog.

I actually love filing things, but then I am strange when it comes to the office supply store (it’s like a candy store to me!).

OMG ! Now I know what I had to do since a loooong time under (!) my desk in a basked there is a mountain of paper to be filed !

Why don’t you just file as it comes in – takes one second to do and then you wouldn’t have to face a pile? That’s what I do – simply because I hate a pile of filing waiting to be done and calling at me to look after it

Floors, I don’t like mopping and vacuuming. Sweeping I’ll do, but mopping and vacuuming I hate, I just hate them. I’ve tried for the new year making up a chore list so that we’ll do all the chores every week. Well mopping and vacuuming didn’t get done last week. I really must enforce hubby helping me!

I don’t like to file either, I have a ton waiting for me (especially starting the new year). I like the idea of setting boundaries for yourself. I know I read that principle here before, but it always seems to mean something different when you see how you put your principles in action.
I cleaned out my kitchen junk drawer this morning and I used containers to set boundaries. I thought of you the whole time I was doing it. It really didn’t take that long.
Thanks for all the ideas & motivation. It is making a difference in my household.

I do that to myself too. When we moved in July, I actually had to pack and move a box, that had been in the attic, that was full of papers to be filed. I had to move it instead of just tossing it because it had things like tax returns, vaccination records, and our marriage certificate was in there somewhere…
It took me 2 months to file it all at our new house and 90% of it went straight to “File 13”.

I have back filing to do. I need to put 2006 stuff in storage to make room for 2007. Problem is our filing cabinet is kind of maxed. It need some puring. That I don’t like but what I really detest is putting away laundry and doing dishes. Things I can’t avoid so I just dive in and do them.
Good tackle though. I should do that…

I don’t like filing either. I usually keep papers in a pile, then another pile … then another pile before it actually gets done! I purged before we moved (about a year ago) so I’m good there, but I have a lot to go through today! LOL

Not as easy as it sounds!

I think it’s great that you set a limit as to how far you’ll let the pile go before filing it. We’re a family that is okay with filing . . . we just do it right away. Now, going through the files . . . that’s another story! LOL! I have way to many early childhood resources in files that I don’t use b/c it is just too overwhelming to look at those files. Binders might be a better idea . . . you think? We’ll see what we do. A tackle for another month maybe. :0)

Filing:( I have avoided buying a filing cabinet just so I have an excuse not to file, but eventually the pikles just get to be to much. Great job with your tackle!

I HATE filing! I will put off filing until I no longer can see my desk! Great tackle.

Pretty basket. I love the idea of using it to create a limit. I kind of do the same thing with my inbox, but there are times when it is overflowing or stacked almost the ceiling before I get to emptying it.

Just found your blog this month (hey, its only 9 months after you originally posted this, not bad). Love the idea of having basket for filing, that limits how much you can pile. My hubby is in charge of paying bills. He pays them each week, and during that week, a small pile collects on the corner of the dining room table. Then during the weekend, one of us (usually me, because I use the table to fold laundry) will grab the pile and add it to the ever growing pile on the floor IN FRONT OF the filing cabinet (okay, its actually 3 piles, and they’re each about 2 inches tall, eeek). I’m going to attack the files in the coming weeks, and the first step will be to get a basket to help us put a limit on what piles up. Seems so simple, but thanks for sharing it with us organizationally-challenged folks.
