In case you haven’t noticed, this is a great time of the year to buy your organizing supplies! You can find some great deals out there right now as stores cater to all those people that made “getting more organized” as one of their New Year’s Resolutions. I just love it! For instance, Wal-Mart right now has a “special purchase” 5 pack of the clear plastic shoebox storage bins for $4.83. Less than $1.00 per box people! I live for sales like these because although I already have many I can always find uses for more. Seriously you can never have too many! Also grocery stores are a great place to check out right now as they’ll often bring in special displays of storage containers….but you have to be quick as they just fly off the shelves. I know…..I’m the lady you’ll see carrying 10 in each arm and balancing another 10 on her head!
Keep your eyes open…

oh, the joy of baskets. I struggle keeping only what is suppose to go in the basket in the basket. It is just so easy to put other stuff in them. I love the little clear ones, they would be perfect in a scrapbook space. How would you keep the top of a dryer clean?
misslionheart says
I could use some clear ones with wheels on, for under-the-bed storage in my girls’ bedrooms!
p.s.Ive posted today on how to get the children involved in helping around the house, in a fun way, of course!

That’s interesting… I always assumed prices would be higher this time of year because of the New Year’s Resolutions. Thanks for the tip!

And I’m the lady you meet in the parking lot with a case of ’em too. We look at each other and laugh, because we KNOW what a fresh plastic shoebox is really worth (gold!)

Lindsey you’ve got that right..lol. I can so relate to the Ikea lady who is running out of the store shouting “start the car, start the car!”. Yep, totally me!

Rosie what kind of things are finding their way to the top of your dryer? Would a basket on top work to contain the “stuff” and provide a limit to what goes there?

You made me remember I wanted a flat storage bin for wrapping paper. I now have 2 kinds of wrapping-1 for birthdays, and one that can be used for anything from Christmas to a wedding. It is gold. I plan to get one more for all the baby showers/baby birthdays we go to. I want to put them all under the bed with the ribbon and tape (and the few gift bags I still have) all in one spot.

I could definitely use more baskets, but Laura you are addicted! 🙂 No, seriously, I love baskets, too! I do not have enough as is and will have to keep my out for the sales next time I’m out shopping! Thanks for letting us know!

I have an idea for you! 🙂 (Actually I really need help with this!). In my laundry closet, I have just enough space to stack 2 big rectangular toyboxes. That was my clever plan for storing the toys I rotate out. So we don’t have as many to put away, and when I switch them, they are “new” again. However, the plan isn’t working so well. They only fit in the closet with the short side facing out; so I have to pull the whole thing out to get into them, which is heavy and cumbersome. Then, because the top is flat, things inevitably get put on top of the toy box, and I have to move all that too. Ha ha! 🙂 I already have 2 people waiting to take the toy boxes when I empty them, but first I need to come up with an affordable storage solution for all those toys. They are the ones I kept after purging, but I am going to reconsider whether we really need all these. I remember you made a shelf in your closet, right? I thought we could make shelves. I need to take a picture for you. It is under the stairs; so the side wall slants, and we only have use of the back and side walls, since the washing machine’s to the right. So if we do make shelves, I was thinking of storing the toys in more big zip locks, but that will be easy for the little ones to find out on an open shelf. Thinking of you, I realized baskets would be better visually (even if some of the bags are inside). 🙂 I don’t want to look at all the toys when I do laundry, and have the boys grabbing them when they’re supposed to be hidden. 🙂
Thanks a bunch!

Hi Laura,
I’m here from my friend Randi’s. It just so happens I’m working on organizing recipes right now. I’d love any great tips you might have, or if you’ve already done a post, I’ll go back and read your ideas!
I’ll be back again..

I’ve already been out and started buying organizational stuff for my boys’ bedroom. I’m no longer certain I should be trusted with money. 😉

OMG! We saw a lady at Target Tuesday night loading at least 50 larger plastic containers into her van. Actually the stock boy was loading them into the van. My 9yo daughter said, “she must need to Clean Sweep her house”. Too funny!

I can so see you balancing them on your head, Laura. The image I’m getting is cracking me up. Yep, this would definitely be right up your alley! 🙂

I am always looking for good organizers, specifically in cupboards and under the sinks. And you are right, now is the perfect time to pick some up! If I get a moment to myself, I know I want to get some!

I am so jealous of all your baskets! I have an overabundance of totes and tote lids (more of those for some reason). I love your blog; your tips are always so great.

I just found your blog and OH HEAVEN, and organizing blog!
Love it, I’ll be back and I’m adding you to my blogroll.
As you can see from my blog, I live the farthest thing from an organized life, so this is like a guilty pleasure for me.
