Kids, kids, kids….

in Kid Stuff, Monthly Round-up

The Monthly Organizing Round-Up has us tackling our kid’s rooms this month. It’s enough to make us shudder just thinking about it isn’t it. It will be hard work but it’s not impossible. The two main problems I see in kid’s rooms are clothes and toys and I’ll address both of these issues over the next couple of weeks. Here are just some of the posts I am working on:

Rotating clothes for season and size

Organizing toys with your child’s personality in mind

Closet organizers

Rotating toys

Organizing keepsakes

Getting kids involved in the process

In the meantime if you want to get started this weekend, here are some links to a few of my previous posts that you may find helpful:

Getting to sleep amongst the clutter

Organizing my son’s room

Creating a closet library

Organizing a nursery for baby

Polly World

Organizing kid’s toys just got a whole lot easier

Looking beyond the mess

We are not our children’s slaves

Also if you are interested in guest posting with regards to organizing kid’s rooms or have a link to a post you’ve already done for future Link~tastic editions, I’d love to consider it. Just send me an email or use the contact form above. Thanks!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I’m really looking forward to this. My daughter’s room has a collection of stuffed animals that is embarassing (because of my inability to do anything other than hide them on the back side of her bed and because of the excess!) I’m really hoping you’ll (or a reader) give some suggestions for handling stuffed animals WITHOUT the use of a net. I hate those net thingies.

Yay! I’m really looking forward to this topic. I have a 3 year old girl and a 6 month old boy in one small bedroom and it’s making me crazy. I can’t wait to get it all reorganized, which hasn’t really happened since the baby arrived.

I’m past the point of “kids” rooms and am now into the teenager room nightmares. But I’ll still be interested in seeing what you post. Maybe there will be some ideas I can revamp a bit.

Oh, the neverending switcheroo of clothes for the kids. It’s killing me! At least Zach is now out of the change-every-3-months thing. I’m sure this will be a great round-up!

oh yea!! i cant’ wait. i’m having a really hard time deciding where and how to store dd’s toys and with another on the way (and only 1 room for the nursery), i know we need some new ideas. i’d love to see a post taling about how you decide what to use your rooms for. like does each child have their own room or is a shared bedroom and then a shared play room better?

and ideas for storage of books, toys and art supplies in the main family living spaces (kitchen, dining, family room). our bedrooms are kinda isolated at the back of our house and i like the kids to be out where i am…but also dont’ want our entire houes to look like a preschool :)

TIA!!

I’m glad for this topic! We moved into our new home in early April, and I orgnaized my boys’ rooms just enough for them to be safe, but the closets are still a disaster. I really need to finish those up this month!

I was just looking at my daughters’ closet yesterday thinking it was about time to get the mess under control. Better go snap some before pictures before I get too crazy organizing.

Before I read this post today, I actually completely emptied out everything in my sons room.

Granted, it was as a punishment for not listening to me (it’s not been a good day), but we’ll just say it was a precursor to getting his room all reorganized…

…yeah, that’s it.

I’m very interested in the “organizing with your child’s personality in mind” post. DH and I have organized our 5 yr old son’s room beautifully (I think) but it just doesn’t work for him. He’s got it all pulled out in a matter of days.

He’s a big, huge train lover. He’s got a wooden railroad and at least 50 wooden trains in his room. He tells stories to himself as he plays and brings other trains in and switches the track around. By the end of a play session, everything is out. He says he likes it that way so he can see everything. I even ask him to just put away the ones he’s not using, but he insists he’s using them all (and he may very well be!).

Anyway, like I said, I’m eagerly awaiting! :)

have a great weekend!

You are so smart! Doing this BEFORE summer is here and the rooms look like Nebraska in mid April… great thinking!

Brilliant timing when I’ve just decided that I’ve had enough of the chaos which are my childrens’ bedrooms!

Eagerly awaiting your “organising keepsakes” and “getting the kids involved” articles. :)

I’ll take some pictures and write some posts.

Hi Laura,
I just read your post on organizing the kids’ toys getting easier-with the help of that cubby unit.

Would you mind sharing how else you organized each cube? (w/ your cute labels:)
I need all the help I can get! lol

Thanks so much. :)

I totally flaked out on the master bedroom last month, but I definitely am going to do a kids room this month. I have three kids and I’ve already done my two sons’ rooms, and they’ve done a great job keeping them organized for the last several months, so this month I am going to do my three-year-old daughter’s room.

I have not been able to keep up with the monthly organizing roundups! I have had good intentions, but you know what they say about that. BUT, I am going to take pix of two of my kids’ rooms RIGHT NOW, and then I am going to make a plan and tackle it! Thanks for the inspiration and the links.
