My very organized friend, Barb, did an awesome post complete with a gazillion pictures of the binder she created for all of her “Good Things”. This is the place she stores all the magazine articles she wants to keep and other things she occassionally wants to refer back to. It’s all organized and lovely and contained! If you have a tendency to have magazines piled up because of that one great article or picture you wanted to hang on to, then this option might just work for you. Tear it out of the magazine, store it in your binder or file container and recycle the rest.
Also, I know some people keep magazines just because they haven’t had a chance to read them yet. Well if its been a couple of months, chances are pretty good you aren’t going to. Give yourself a break, cut your losses and give them away. It’s okay. Feel the weight lifted off your shoulders knowing you’ve given yourself permission to not be burdened by one more thing to do.

My Good Things books was one of the best ideas I ever came up with, Laura, for me. I’m addicted to clipping great ideas out of magazines and I had them all in a file that was just an unorganized mess. I realized I was clipping and never looking at the mess again.
I love my book. And it’s getting so full, I’m about to start another one. I just hope I can find another binder exactly like my first one. Because you know, if they don’t match, I won’t be able to stand it. LOL

i love this idea. i have finally given away all of the magazines that were just piling up on my table. (the receptionists at work really appreciate the reading material).
the only ones i’ve yet to part with are my Real Simple magazines. i will work on project this weekend…cutting out all of the recipes and articles that i want to hang on to…then out to the curb they go!
i’m moving AGAIN, i just will not pay to have them stored while we wait to move into our new house.

Hi Laura (and everybody else).
I’m an organizing junkie from Iceland and I read your page quite alot.
My blog is in Icelandic, so no use adding it to the list of MPM’s, but I do that when ever it’s convenient.
My boyfriend is out of town quite alot and we don’t have a kid yet (I’m due november 7th) but I take time to plan dinners a head if it looks like he’ll stay at home the whole week 🙂
I plan every little aspect of my life, sometimes up to the point of feeling like I must have OCD, but then I just think of you all and smile 😀
One day I’ll link you to my blog (I’ll do it in english) and show you all my lovely ideas for order. I’ll be moving in august and after that my apartment will be PERFECT! (at least for the next two months… untill my baby boy comes along).
Thank you for reminding me that I’m not the only O.J. out there 😀

Makes me want to subscribe to magazines! I have a file in my drawer dedicated to decorating ideas I like. But…since I don’t ever buy magazines, it’s pretty slim.

That is the best idea ever! I hung my head when I was packing to move two months ago because one box was nothing but Martha Stewart magazines but there is so much in them that I want for reference down the road. Now I know how to take care of the problem and now I have my weekend project. Thanks for the great idea!

This is a great idea…I have a stack of ideas that I’ve pulled out of magazines (mostly Pottery Barn Kids), so now I just need to get them in a binder or a file!!
Thanks!
Blessings,
Joy

Okay – now you’re treading on dangerous territory. Nobody messes with “the stack” and lives to tell about it. LOL Just kidding. I’ve let my stack get out of hand. I’ve been cutting back on the number of subscriptions lately – plus getting back to the habit of tearing out like I used to. And now I’ve started using the things I cut out in a journal, so that’s a fun way to use it up too.
By the way – I’ve nominated you for a Thinking Blogger Award. Check my blog today!

This is a great idea. My friend does the same thing with her scrapbook magazines to organize ideas she likes.

I try to mark the interesting articles/recipes and find them on line. I copy them to an e-mail and save them in a folder. Then toss/pass on the magazine.

Oh goodness, i had stacks and stacks of old magazines under my bed, until i ripped out all the articles and advertisments that i wanted to keep. then i had stacks of disorgonized papers. so about five bucks later, i had a inch and a half binder full of all my clippings. its so full, i might need to get a larger binder!!!
im even thinking about expanding my categories. most of my stuff is from cosmo and allure, but there are so many other magazines with captivating photography and useful articles… i might just have to give each category its own binder.
this idea is amazing, and some people just dont appreciate how fun it is to have your own personal magazine.

Hey! I know this is sort of off-topic but I needed to ask.
Does managing a well-established blog such as yours take a massive amount work?
I’m brand new to running a blog however I do write in my journal daily. I’d like to start
a blog so I will be able to share my own experience and feelings online.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for new aspiring blog owners.
Thankyou!
