After reading Barb’s great post today about burp cloths I’ve added another craft project to my ever growing list which also includes this, this and this. I always have great intentions…I get all excited, I go out and purchase all of the supplies and then I wait until I find the courage to actually start but it takes me awhile and I never seem to have the time to devote to it. Thank goodness for crafty friends that hold my hand and give me the kick in the pants confidence to move past my fear. You see crafting doesn’t come naturally to me, I know this so I accept a little lot of guidance wherever I can get it. It isn’t a hobby for me. I can’t say I enjoy the process so much and I don’t ever think it will ever be my passion but I keep at it because what I do love is the sense of accomplishment I feel when I actually complete something so out of my element. I also think it is important to push ourselves every once and awhile to do something out of our comfort zone….out of our box.
It dawned on me that this may be how some of you see organizing. You can’t understand the passion but love the results. For me I don’t think I am a born organizer and I’m pretty sure my mom would even agree with me. However over time the sense of accomplishment that organizing gives me has sucked me in. I love that feeling so much. I eventually discovered that I enjoyed the organizing process and it has now become my hobby. I make time for it even when I should be doing other things because I love it…it makes me happy. I wouldn’t have known this though if I hadn’t kept at it even when I wasn’t necessarily very good at it.
So I guess what I’m trying to say is if organizing doesn’t come naturally for you, don’t give up and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Not everyone is destined to be a professional organizer the same way I can assure you I’m not destined to be a craft goddess. That is okay. I’ll keep asking for help and plugging along one step at a time and I hope you will too. The end result is worth it however we get there.

For me, wanting to be organized is a passion, but figuring out how to do it is the barrier. Sites like yours make it seem easier and achievable, so that I’m more likely to Just. Do. It.
Unfortunately, I’m the same way about crafts…and exercise.
I think my passion may be procrastination. Someone needs to stage an intervention!

I would have to agree with you Laura. I am so passionate about organizing but I was not always this way.

I can relate to this post. I am not crafty either and am not a born organizer, but I’m learning to be organized and I like the results so it keeps me learning.
I have the desire to be an organized person, but not to be a crafty person.
Thanks for all you share.

This is a really great post, Laura, and oh so true. I strive to be more organized, but sometimes I wish the end result would just show up while I’m sleeping!!

I thought of you when I reorganized a bookshelf today. I think I’ve definitely hit junkie status as well.

The truth is we all have different passions. I’m not really passionate about crafts OR organizing my house. Both of those things are just part of me. Who knows where either trait came from! LOL
If you decide to try the burp cloths, you know I’ll be glad to help you. Like I said last night, it’s too bad I don’t live next door. I’d have you loving crafts in the blink of an eye. Right?
🙂

As a messie, it’s hard for me to get organized, because along the way, there’s sooo much more to do–and of course, it needs to be done first!!
I hope I’ll be proud of myself by the end of April. And thank you for giving me a month to organize my whole house (’cause that’s what will happen, ya know!)

I actually like organizing. My biggest problem is the other people that live with me. Nothing stays organized. Do you have any tips for organizing your family????

Good for you, Laura! I think that’s great that you’re willing to pursue it and give it a try. And with Barb as a back up you can’t go wrong.

I’ve been thinking about this post (and not just because you linked to me. 😉 Thanks for the link.) and while I don’t really have much trouble with organizing things I have trouble organizing time. Just something I need to continue to work on!
Something else I like the end result of: exercise. But I hate to exercise! I’m getting back into exercising lately…just forcing myself to do it. And I really enjoy the feeling afterwards, but not during! =)
Have a good day!
