Good morning! Are you losing your mind? Me too and so I have a solution that solves that problem for me and maybe even for you too. Here is a WFMW tip that I posted many months ago but it works so well for our family that I’m mentioning it again…this time with a picture! You’ll often hear me say “Don’t set your kids up for failure”. One of the ways I avoid doing this is by creating what I like to call a Communication Centre. I hung a flip chart pad with Command Adhesive™ hooks on the door that leads into my dining room. There is no way you can miss it. In the mornings I write down what is expected of the kids for the day including any chores we need to do, things we want to accomplish, errands we need to run, activities and fun we will have, etc.. It stays there for the entire day and this gives the kids no excuses for not knowing what is required of them. They simply cannot say to me “well I didn’t know”. Now they know……doesn’t always mean they do it but I don’t have to second guess myself (because I can’t remember what I’ve told them) and can then dole out the consequences accordingly. The kids really enjoy checking things off as we complete the list and it definitely helps keep us on track and organized!
Have a spectacular weekend! See you back here tomorrow for the list of winners in the Org Challenge although it is definitely proving harder than I thought to narrow the list down!

Great Idea! I once had a student whosse mom did a similar thing for him. He was special needs and she hung 5 small white boards in a row in his room and wrote out everything for his week. Then he would erase as he went along. It really helped him to feel secure in knowing what he needed to do. Many kids NEED to know what is coming up. If your kid is having trouble in school, a communication center such as yours is a big step in the right direction.

I like this! I already do this to an extent, I just started making lists in the morning for my daughter and hanging it on the fridge with a magnet. It helps a LOT. But I really like the idea of having a permanent board for it. Much better! Good idea!

Good idea 😀 I’m always forgetting things unless I write it down.

Awesome idea! I’ll have to implement this when Olyvia is old enough.

So simple and yet most of us probably would not think of it! Great idea. For me this would really work for Saturdays! There would be no more excuses!

This is wonderful! I do a picture version of this for my little ones. Ours is more of a “here’s what we’re doing today” list. I thought they’d outgrow it, but your idea is perfect for when they are reading!

When you first wrote about this I had a hard time getting a picture of it in my head, now I know what it is. I put up a white board that everyone hates. They complain….I can’t understand what’s on it…ugh!
