I’m participating in Org Junkie’s 28 Day Organizing Challenge with @orgjunkie during the month of Feb. Wish me luck! http://tiny.cc/KYtro
The Twitter hashtag we’ll use for this event will be #28DOC
This year I have asked my good friend and fellow Professional Organizer, Tanna from Complete Organizing Solutions to help me select the winners. Be sure to visit her site throughout the month for helpful organizing tips and encouragement.
The Official 28 Day Organizing Challenge Rules:
- During the month of February participants have 28 days to organize either a whole room and/or small space in their home
- You must have a blog to participate
- You can enter multiple spaces if you’d like but participants will be asked to create a separate blog post for each entry
- Two Mr. Linky posts (one for small space and one for whole room) will go up on the morning of March 1st for participants to link up to with a post showcasing BOTH their before and after pictures of the newly organized space. Participants will also be asked to answer a few questions about the process they followed. Questions can be found here.
- Entries that don’t include both before and after pictures and/or question summary will be eliminated.
- The challenge end Mr. Linky cut off will be March 2nd at 12:00 pm PST.
- Judges will be specifically looking at overall transformation, creative use of space, storage solutions that work and overall experience.
Overall Transformation – A well organized, uncluttered, clearly defined and efficient space that lends itself to easy maintenance.
Creative Use of Space – Using creative solutions to allow you to maximize your space and create zones in a new and manageable way.
Storage Solutions that Work – Using storage solutions that allow you to establish boundaries and limits and contain “like with like”.
Overall Experience – The process that got you to the uncluttered space mentally and physically.
Sidenote: My philosophy on organizing is that it doesn’t need to cost big bucks to do it and so you’ll notice that $$ spent is not even a factor in the judging criteria. Many a creative storage solution can be found for next to nothing. Be creative, think outside of the box and let your organizing imaginations run wild :)
Good luck everyone!!

being a mom of 7 have way too much clutter and need to get my home back!!!
I’m just a loyal reader and don’t have a blog…but I’ll be participating and looking forward to seeing all the before and after pictures!!
Does moving/settling into a new house count as ‘organizing’?
I just commented on your blog post for today, but I thought I better post again over here so that you know I’m alllllll the way in for this challenge!! yay :-)
I’ve got a ton of small and large spaces that need to be organized, how do you pick just one, ha!
does my whole house count? my house is so unorganized and a mess. i need to get it under control!
I can not wait! I will be participating in this year’s challenge!
Cannot wait! I really need a challenge like this. One of my goals for the new year is to get oranized and a support challenge sounds great. Can’t wait to get started.
Will there be a “Whole House” category? ;0)
Oh snap, I’m not the first one to suggest that. Oh,boo. =P
Thank you for hosting this. Hopefully this will be motivation I need to declutter my office/craft room before the baby comes. Yes I have until June, but I have already put it off for about three months…and everything needs to get moved to the new playroom!
One of my goals for the new year is to be a good example for my sons and to get my house in order before the new baby comes. Can’t wait!
My guest room is less than welcoming at this point (I mean, I guess you ‘could’ sleep in there…it would just be REALLY uncomfortable and you might have a hard time hoisting yourself onto the piles of junk!). I’m an extremely organized person, so it’s about to drive me bananas!! Thankfully, this challenge will be just what I need to kick it into high gear! Thanks!
I am HOPING to be able to participate in this challenge. I just HAVE to be able to make the time to do it, but I too have a “spare room” that is a combination of a guest room, computer room, and my scrapbooking room, and am in desperate need of some direction in there. Can’t wait to start!!!
I am on overload in our office! It’s bulging with “stuff” and way too many books!
This is such a neat idea, I am in!!!
OHHHHH… just the perfect time to work on the basement!
If I can’t commit to my whole house, I think I’ll dedicate my craft room. It’s a disaster zone!!!
OH..i am so ready for this!!
Whoopee, just the impetus I need to get started! Count me in!
I have the best spot…basement.
What a God send! This is exactly what I need right now! And my front seat in the car is full of bags that need to be dropped off at Goodwill. So perfect..I can just add more…
I don’t have a blog, but I sure will be glad to participate in this. I hope to get the panty, laundry room and my closet done in Feb. Thanks for the additional motivation!
My challenge is remembering to get started and checking out all of the tips. Sounds like funny (and scary!) I can’t wait to get started. :)
Okay, I know what I’m going to do!! I ordered a couple small things from Amazon today to help me get it done, they arrive in a few days – can’t wait!! =D
Oh – I’m doing our home office stuff. We don’t have a home office, but I’m doing the stuff that WOULD go in one, our desk, filing cabinet, etc.
Don’t forget to Freecycle your unneeded items to those that can use it. I have purged alot via FC and it saves me gas too.
I am doing the 28 day challenge.
Looking forward to the challenge. I have been trying to organize something each week. Slowly things are coming together. Thanks for the motivation!
Oh My! This is JUST what I needed!!! Now….to just pick which place in my home needs the MOST work!! :-)
Ok, I’m in. I’ve been working on purging “stuff” from the house. We have a “computer room” that has become the catch-all for everything. I want to turn it into a family room for the kids. I’m embarrassed to post my before pictures, but if that doesn’t motivate me, nothing will!
I desperate need this! I’ve been trying so hard to do it on my own but would appreciate tips and ideas from those who are actually organized!
My craft room / office is aweful. I just took photos and it looks much worse in the photos! ACK! It seems to be a “catch-all” for anything that is mine, or that I must take care of “later”. We just know to put that in Mom’s room. Eeeek.
Thank you for hosting this challenge. I am looking forward to the end of February and my nice clean, organized craft / office room. Best wishes to everyone!
I did photos too and swear they look worse than the real thing….or is that just my denial??? Good Luck!!
I am totally and completely IN! I have been talking about this anyway. I want to focus on getting my storage spaces (closets) organized and optimized this month. If I can do that, the rest of the house will be a piece of cake!
Looking forward to seeing what everyone else chooses to work on!
Sounds like fun. I’m already posting challenges on my blog and tackling various areas. I think this will be great for work on “The Wall.”
I am SO in for this! The front room of my rented home is a catch-all room for everything from the shoes that kicked off upon entering to computers to video games, homework area and craft zone…..eeeek!
Yes please! My “Great Space Clean-Up of 2009″ didn’t quite pan out. I’ll make it happen in February!
We’ve gone through a financial seminar to get our budget in check, we’re planning on trying to get pregnant again this year, I’m taking on new writing projects, I’m researching homeschooling strategies to start my oldest next fall, and I’m trying to start my own blog site, so needless to say, I need to get my house under control, especially the office.
I need to tackle the catchall that is my bedroom walk-in closet. It is like a micrcasam of my house and if I can get THAT organized, I can organize anything . I’m sooooo ready !
I just found out about this from someone else’s tweet. We just moved and my craft room is the lowest on the priority list to get organized — it’s a TOTAL disaster. So I’ll take it one day at a time and work there. Thanks for the motivation!
I’m in with redoing my bedroom. It seems to be the waystop for everything in our house.
I have half a house in need of some serious love..mostly the office (a.k.a the room where things go to die). I’m SO in need of this challenge. Count me in..as soon as I figure out how to sign up.
I have MANY rooms in my house that are in need of this challenge, but the one room I find the most need is our office/guest/husbands side business/everything room! I’m soooo ready for this challenge!
I am so in. I have a TON of stuff to take to Salvation Army. I could use help in every room.
Count me in! My 11 year old son’s room is embarrasing, so that’s what we’re going to focus on.
I just took my before pics and ready!
I can’t wait to see the change. It’s nice to know I wont be doing it alone
I created a blog dedicated just to my journey of getting organized in 28 days. So far my favorite project has been decluttering my purse… I lost two pounds just by doing this! These prizes look awesome!
I am going to try this, all it can do is help. I enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for all the ideas
Wow! I’m actually working on my boys’ room now. Glad I took some before photos. I just hope I actually get it done before the end of the month!
I took before pics but see my blog for the post about those. ARGH!!!
Well this will fit right in with my 9th month nesting instinct won’t it. I’m in! It sounds like I’m going to have to reveal my before pics to the world though doesn’t it. DANG!
Thanks for your help giving me the motivation to finally get this done!
I know I missed the February window, but I am going to do this in March anyway! My bedroom seriouslyyy needs it. Time to focus!
When are you doing this again?
I am sure down the line things mang change, lucy
Thank you.,Val
