The area in my home with the most clutter is my home office. Specifically, dealing with papers to save and finding a good organization system and storage for cords, electronics, books, and office supplies (we don’t have any desk storage). I’m thinking there has to be a better way to use the closet in there for storage. Thanks!
Ashley says
I would love to see more on garage organization. It’s so hard to picture a way to find room for everything (tools, landscaping tools, sports equipment, etc.). Thanks!

Love your blog! I have gotten so many simple, easily implemented ideas. Thanks for all you do!

I like the challenges but I can’t keep up w/them. I would love to see an reorganizing of an outdoor shed – one w/garden tools and one that contains all kinds of crazy things like Christmas decorations and summer/outdoor patio things.

Thanks for your ideas!

I love the series ideas. For me the biggest problem is the office. No matter how beautiful it starts it doesn’t stay that way. I would also love organizing ideas that are beautiful but don’t break the bank.
Jane Beckenham says
I think i would love to see is ways to store those ‘not used often’ items. Camping gear/picnic baskets etc. Also maybe ways to ‘inspire’ other family members to get with the program.

My office and my closet. I am doing better, but always looking for tips for these areas. And our house is overrun with toys, but I’m also working on that. It’s so hard this time of year, knowing the kids will get more stuff, but having a hard time getting rid of the older stuff. One of my downfalls is wanting to do something “good” with what I get rid of. I make several donations a year of bags of clothes and such, but when I have something I think is worth something to sell or I want to save for a specific donation such as saving coats until wintertime toy/coat drives or baby items I think someone could use, etc, it tends to just stick around cluttering up my home waiting for the “right” time to get rid of it. I am perusing your links above hoping for inspiration for 2015.

2.) More pics of before/after projects; showing real-life organization accomplishments
3.) Repurposing the stuff we already have!
Thanks, love your blog!

I would love to see some organzing ideas that involve a workspace in a well traveled area of the home (i.e. living room). How to hide the clutter (or not to have clutter in the first place 🙂 )
Lissette says
I have all intension to be organized and by all kinds things to have things contained but then have a hard time executing my ideas.
Krista says
My biggest organizing struggle: the kiddos and their stuff! It ends up EVERYWHERE, even the car and bathroom…in my bag…which then follows me to the office! Ack! I know part of the solution is training them…but I’d love a clean (or at least less insane) slate to start with.
Happy holidays…with hopefully not a lot of new toys under the tree 😉
Kristy says
I really enjoy the challenges. Organizing any area of my home is very daunting to me as I have 4 kids (including a newborn!) and have a serious problem with clutter. The challenges help me to really focus and dive into a project because I know it is only for a short amount of time.
The main area I need help is controlling papers coming in and out. Mail, kids homework, invitations, notifications, etc. It doesn’t help that me, my husband and our daughter all grab the mail and it just gets placed on top of the mound of papers already crowding the countertop. I never know what is in that pile or if something urgent has come in the mail. Every night I look at it and think I need to sit down and go through it but I seriously have SO MANY other things to do that I just put it off til the next day. Here it’s been about 3 months since I’ve gone through it! So HELP! I know there are a million ideas out there for keeping up with this stuff but I just cant seem to get it under control.
Sarah says
I’ve been following your blog for a couple years now. I love finding new ideas to organize the various spaces of my home, but often they just stay as ideas. I think a challenge series would be amazing, but perhaps they should be small, quick challenges that build into a routine.
Sharon says
Hi, Laura, love your blog! I’ve learned a lot from reading it and appreciate the encouragement you provide—which leads me to my suggestion: how about something regarding mind-set when it comes to de-cluttering? I have trouble determining my goals and then staying focused on my them. I need to empty my basement, and I truly want to do that but I get stuck as to what to do with the things, thinking I might need them someday and if I dispose of them, I will regret it later. Perhaps you could write something that would get me back on track when this sort of thinking works it’s way into my head?
Emily Chapelle says
Hey Sharon, have you checked out my post on this type of thing?
https://orgjunkie.com/2014/04/decluttering-making-3-mistakes-purging-stuff.html
These are things I think about when decluttering that really let me let go of a lot more! Hope they help you too.
Leslie says
Thanks for your encouragement, commitment and enthusiasm. I need help with papers, craft materials and books. Oh, and there’s the clutter inside my head! Actually you may already have offered help in these areas – I haven’t actively sought it. All the best whatever you decide!
Stephanie says
I’d love to see more on keeping things organized. When do you keep at it and when do you give up and decide that system isn’t working, time for a new one?
Angie Moltzan says
1. De-clutter prior to moving and completing an organized move.
2. Organizing a home office that is used as both a work at home and personal space.
3. How to organize prepping items like food storage and emergency items.
Thanks!

I LOVE this blog!! It is one of the ones that motivated me to start my own!! I struggle with trying to keep my blogging/vlogging ideas and events organized! It would be great if you could share some tips and tricks/challenges for you fellow bloggers!! …and maybe some tips for those pesky lids for bowls and cups on the kitchen! 😉
Thanks so much for all that you do!!

I love the pictures you always post – those are very helpful. I also like the specific storage/organizing problems, i.e., a small closet, gift/packaging, laundry rooms, etc. I LOVE organizing so my house is never that out of control, but I do have areas in which I need to get better (toy storage, some closets) and making sense of a particular area and/or making it more useful. I think that being more cerebral about what it is we’re trying to accomplish is often the first step instead of putting it all into a bin (GUILTY!), but your posts usually start with that step anyway. And please keep up the good work – love your stuff!
nicola says
My challenge is keeping what is organised organised . I manage for a few days then slip back so a series on how once the big organisation is done how to break down the routine to keep it that way.
Melissa says
I love the challenges, but I also can’t keep up with them. It’s really all I can do to work all day, get kids on and off buses, give them snacks, finish working, plan out dinner, get to the gym (yay!) and get home in time for bedtime. I just don’t have the time or motivation with all that to also organize every day or on a challenge basis. I love love all of your ideas though, so as far as I’m concerned, just keep them coming. I’d like to know more about organizing kids rooms, each of my girls rooms are a little bigger than 10×10 and they both have loft beds, but there is still just STUFF everywhere. I’d love ideas for that. And also maybe some product ideas for how to make my office (laptop, notepads, pens, etc) a little portable, so I could stop hogging the family desk when the kids come home, so they could use the computer.
Margie says
I’d love to see more ideas about helping my teenager to keep her things organized including schoolwork and backpack. Also to help me with planning healthy meals and finding time to actually cook them.

I am either treasurer or secretary of two volunteer groups, plus have to keep track of our home life stuff. I don’t have a office – persay- or much room. Have to have my files sitting in my dining room. Need a good way to store my files that look good in the dining room. So I need help
CTY says
There are a few places that I constantly organize and no matter what I do the stuff either ends up hard to get to (lost) or a mess in no time. Here’s the list (in no particular order):
the car
my clothes closet
my craft room
the chest freezer & refrigerator freezer
Kara says
-tips to keeping the clutter out of your house
-encouraging kids to organize
-tips for your ‘trouble spots’ In this I would really enjoy a real life view. You could make this a 30 to 60 day challenge, in which you take a picture every day of a continuously cluttered area which would document the attempts to tame clutter and improve your ‘trouble spot’
Colleen McCaffrey says
I just started following your blog, so I don’t have much input to give, but maybe DIY ideas for making organizers, for those of us that are really strapped for cash. And ways to get husbands and kids to follow through and start putting their stuff away. Thanks.
MelanieL says
I like seeing small, specific organizing projects (drawer, closet, mail station); repurposing of items meant for other uses; and motivational posts to keep us on track!
Diana says
I LOVE Kara’s idea of a real-life “trouble spot” shown over time (30 days or so). Like a series on how to handle the stuff that gets set there every single day… because clutter is just postponed decisions, what decisions were made every day to handle the pile… THAT is what I need practice & insight on. Seeing how others handle the incessant items that never stop coming in would be SO helpful!
Betsy Colliander says
I love all of your ideas, photos and inspiration. I also like being reminded of how I should be organizing on a regular basis. Currently trying to purge items so that I don’t have as much to store. Thanks for sharing with us!
Mary F says
I would like to see more specific projects…mudroom, mail, closet. And more pictures of the projects.
Amanda says
I would love to have a gameroom and playroom challenge. This could include crafting, sewing, and scrap booking clutter as well; since many of these rooms serve several purposes.
liz says
One common barrier to de-cluttering is the attachment or ‘investment’ in the stuff – what about a series of ways to regift belongings that are in good condition to organizations, schools, non-profits that will appreciate the donations that could be tax deductions to the donor? Realizing how the cost of keeping and storing these extra belongings outweighs the previous investment made while acquiring them. Organizations are alway doing fundraisers and silent auctions and are looking for donations.
Laura Leseberg says
I love reading about organizing; I’m not so great about actually doing it. I always feel like I need big blocks of time which I do not have!
SusanDR says
I really appreciate all of your ideas and helpful info. My biggest trouble zone is my scrapbooking supplies. They have overtaken the entire room I keep them in (home office/craft room)! I need good storage solutions (and intervention for my purchasing addiction!). Thanks for all your inspiration and motivation.

Would love to win…seriously, need all the help I can get! 🙂

I like weekly challenges better, that way I can plan during the week when I can fit the “assignment” in. Daily challenges are just too overwhelming.
I’d also love any hints on helping a significant other with organizing and understanding the importance of purging and cleaning things out (or helping me deal with living with an almost hoarder!)
Bennie says
I like challenges whether it’s organizing and decluttering or exercise and diet. It helps to reinforce good habits and get reminders of things we can easily forget in our busy lives.
Lori says
I enjoy the challenges but prefer them to be short and sweet, maybe once a week instead of daily. Sometimes it hard to get time to read and complete daily challenges.
Leslie Dawn Neagle says
I would love to see more info on paper clutter. Thank you. I love your site.
Deb says
I like challenges that can be done in small time increments (5-30 minutes), maybe spread out over a week or a month for a specific trouble spot, like an entryway, closet, pots and pans, junk drawer, etc. Also any motivational tips are always appreciated – I tend to drift if my motivation lapses!
Ellie says
I also love the challenges. They are motivating and inspiring. It helps me put into action what I’m reading. Pictures are so helpful, especially before, in process, and after.
Thanks for all your ideas.
Katherine says
I love the challenges! Gives me motivation and a deadline to actually do something instead of just thinking about it.
I would like to see a challenge that focuses on smaller spaces rather than entire rooms, I.e. junk drawer, desk, one countertop, etc.
I also love the idea of organizing those less-used items like Christmas decorations and things like that that someone mentioned, but unless that happens right away, I don’t know that people will pull those back out in like July or something to reorganize them.
A decluttering challenge could be fun. Have you heard of the log The Minimalists? They have one you can do any month called the #minsgame (Instagram it for pictures), where you get rid of one thing on the first of the month, two on the second, and so on, so by the end of the month you’ve gotten rid of a lot! I’m going to try that next month.
Toy storage is a huge problem for me so any help there would be great. Okay, I think I’m done. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Ruth Dunn says
I love your blog and read and use your ideas a lot. Less stuff means less stress I am a purging fool.
Lisa K says
If you were to do a challenge, please break it into tiny, bite-sized tasks that take no more than 10-15 minutes a day. I find it really hard to keep up with challenges because I work FT outside the home and have two young children, and my focus when I get home from work is usually on getting supper ready and spending family time/bedtime routines. 🙂
Katie LeBarron says
I am at such a loss when it comes to organization. I don’t know if the gene is missing or what (LOL). I try very hard to organize things, to keep them straight so that the house looks clean, but five seconds later I have a pile here and a pile there. I’m trying very hard to get my house under control, but right now it’s an uphill battle.
Gina says
I don’t sign up for challenges because after years of hard work, my house is minimalist and rarely cluttered. It takes a little bit daily to keep up with it, but I don’t bring extra “stuff” into the house and am happy with my empty spaces.

I could definitely use some motivation to organize all of our mail and paper clutter. I used to have a system, but we just moved and now I have paper all over the place! I’m sure there are late bills due in there somewhere. Yikes, I’m usually a very organized person. But it’s so easy to let it get out of control when you’re routine/system gets thrown off!

I would like to see more specific projects…mudroom, mail, closet. And more pictures of the projects. Also love all your small, specific organizing projects drawer, closet, mail; and repurposing of items meant for other uses

“What To Do When You Can’t Do Much” or some catchier title:) How to not lose your progress when illness, new baby, particularly stressful seasons of life hit. When you only have a tiny bit of time/energy to put towards an organized, happy, clean & peaceful home- how would it best be spent? When the main wall between clean and chaos (the mom in my case) is not doing great, when the main driving force behind the habits the 11, 9, 7, 4 and 2 year old inhabitants haven’t developed, to the point where they happen automatically, yet-what are the main things that can hold back the natural decline long enough for mom to get just one good night’s sleep. What are the most important habits? 🙂

Being Organized is a challenge I face everyday. Thank you for sending me great ideas to achieve this goal.

I’d love for my apartment to be organized, efficient and cute, but I’m overwhelmed with the mere thought of how to start. I could be enjoying a home surrounded by beauty, color and joy, but instead I’m crowded by stacks of boxes and bins in almost every room. My health issues are the main reason I’m stuck with this dilemma, and the meds I take keep me in an almost constant state of drowsy- groggy- and dizzy- ness. Besides the chronic pain and chronic fatigue, my health woes include COPD, painful nerve damage in my feet & hands, and severe diabetic ulcers on my lower legs. I would welcome any and all advisement! Also, thanks for hosting this giveaway. I’m always open to ideas to improve me and my home. Merry Christmas!

I think others covered some of these (and you maybe have already blogged about them), but I’d love…
* Any and all home office tips (that’s always such a beast to get and keep organized)… Maybe specifically ways to condense office stuff (which office supplies we really need and which we don’t… how to fit your office stuff in a smaller space). I saw a home office (desk, computer, office supplies, etc.) that was totally contained within a closet (I think it was something like one of those double-door, accordian style-door closets… not a walk-in). I might end up doing that someday, so condensation/minimalism would be essential). Also, tips on keeping personal and work stuff organized within one home office would be good.
* As others have said, any and all tips on minimalism would be great.
* Garage organization (especially for smaller garages… we have a 2-stall, but it doesn’t fit a whole lot more than two cars… I know a lot of people with just a single-stall too…) Like maybe help us know how to make the most of a narrow space in a garage for storage… and more minimalist tips. 🙂 (Are you sensing a theme yet?)
* I don’t know if you only do home organization, but if you had some office tips that might be applicable to any and all offices (especially work offices as well), that would be fabulous.
* Purse/tote bag/diaper bag/vehicle[interior & trunk] organization
* Tips for controlling the quantity of toys your kids have (and tips on toy storage)
* Tips for simplifying/organizing holidays (I think you had a post recently about Christmas that I haven’t gotten to yet because I’m so unorganized!!)
* I liked someone else’s idea of outdoor (like garden shed) storage
* Mudroom organization/condensation/minimization
That’s all I can come up with for now! Sorry if it’s all been done (I’m a fairly recent follower of this blog… beginning or middle of this year, I think). It’s helped a lot already though! Thanks for all you do!
Jan says
I agree with many previous posts. I’m so busy big projects always end up half done. How about some quickee–you do it in 20 minutes–projects?
Tara says
Sorry–a couple other thoughts…
* A list of things that many people have in their home but could probably get rid of today and never miss them. (Sometimes you know what things you really don’t need, but you just need someone to give you permission to throw them away.) 🙂
* I always love challenges… especially shorter-term challenges, as others have also shared.
Janette says
I am great at the thinking process of getting things organized it’s just the follow through I have a problem with, tips and tricks are always helpful.

Love the small projects, easy to complete at one time. It’s the long term ones that I have trouble with completing. I know I should break them down into smaller bites but that never happens. I look at the big picture and say I’ll start that tomorrow — which never comes.

I love to read your newsletters, but I have never finished a challange yet! My problem is trying to do too much at once. I have to make myself finish a job before I start another one. There are too many good ideas out there and I can’t make up my mind. Because of back surgery, I need to re organize my kitchen. But you have done the kitchen already so I’ll have to back-track!
Caryn says
I really like your challenges and ideas. I’m not so good at turning them into action. I would be better if I could work on them consistently for 15 minutes every day. I’m getting better but there is still so much more to do!

I have a galley kitchen with just over a arms length wide. Very little counter space. I have utilized every inch of wall space I have. I love to cook In big batches & to send home with my grand children or take to someone who is under the weather. I also do a lot of canning, most is given as presents. My problem is “I can’t seem to find a way to organize for either cooking a up meals or setting up for canning.” I do like to be organized & it makes me crazy every time I come in the kitchen. Something on how to plan out the cooking & canning stages without ruining everything.
Linda Douglas says
I’d like to see shorter organizing projects. I want to see a project finished at the end of the day. I would like to see a project about organizing built in bookcases and one for organizing knitting supplies. Anything on repurposing would be helpful too.

I would enjoy some small quick organizing challenges… something done in 30 mins or less. Also a larger project, e.g., an office or closet or such featuring loads of before and after pix.

So happy I found this blog, thanks for all the great ideas, I love when it appears in my inbox!

Challenges can be helpful, but can be overwhelming too. Bite-sized challenges are what I need. I saw a 15-minute challenge on another blog that listed “organize recipes” for one of the days. That would be a 2-hour challenge for me at least….or at least a week-long project. I work full time as well, and some weeks are especially busy. I liked the suggestion for the scrap booking area. I also have difficulty with projects that are in process….how do I keep a space organized when I need to have my project out? A good example would be when I am working on genealogy. And sorting mail. Sometimes I just don’t know what to do with papers I’m thinking about. Thanks for your blog! It is tremendously helpful and motivating!

How about how to organize all the stuff that ends up in my tool shed? Tools, cans of paint, recycling, camping equipment, gardening supplies, etc.
Jessica Nelson says
First let me say thank you for the opportunity to enter a giveaway for something I could definitely enjoy!! I have three problem areas.
1. Learning to sort through/let go of and/or organize items from my past that I have an emotional attachment to.
2. Making a room look put together – all of our furniture is kind of random so there’s no set theme or flow to a room.
3. Getting my husband to help keep up with his and my toddler’s mess in an easy to consistently keep up with way. Something that doesn’t work for a few days and then fall short.

All my work spaces are covered. HELP!!

I look forward to reading your hints and they have helped enormously. It would be nice to see solutions for different types of spaces: small apartments, guest room that doubles as an office, tips for bickering children, tips for short/tall people. I guess more of slice of different lifestyles. The blog world is full of bright white, fancy baskets, smiling children and styled pictures. Don’t get me wrong, your blog is not as styled as many, but still I would like to see a little more grit. Maybe more stories of ah-ha moments from readers too. Sorry, I am rambling. 4. Ways to help my significant other keep things I’ve organized stay that way ????
I like the challenges, they motivate me to focus on just that one thing for a set period of time. When I don’t have that kind of structure and support I can get overwhelmed and dabble in too many things/ places at once! (Please tell me I’m not alone in that!)
Thanks so much for asking. ??

Thanks for all the great tips to getting and staying organized. Baby steps at our house to clear out the clutter but it will be worth it

I need help organizing my sewing/craft space. I’m finally getting a room for it and have so many ideas and stuff I’m overwhelmed. I want it to be pretty and functional and don’t know where to start.

I live in a rental home, and am constantly out of ideas with how to organize frugally. Since I can’t paint, drill, change the shelving in the home, etc., the only solution is to buy separate pieces and just set them in the home. I don’t want to pay a lot of money for these things, and wish I could just change the home!

First of all I want to say thanks for your blog. I really enjoy reading it and enjoy being introduced to new bloggers along the way. I am now an avid Plan To Eat-er thanks to your influence and and getting better by the week about planning my menus. My biggest obstacle is me. I don’t know what you can do with that. I have my ups and downs and right now I’m in a up phase, which was helpful in getting up and enjoying Christmas decorations. I’ve also followed a couple of your challenges and enjoyed those. Another big obstacle is getting the family on board or at the very least, supportive of my efforts. It’s hard to keep on keeping on when after a few hours helping a child (really doing it for them while they’re at school) tidy up their room it’s trashed before the week’s up, sometimes sooner. My husband’s gotten better about supporting me and helping out but he doesn’t always like when I move things around to work at using my space more wisely. I look forward to more organizing tips in the new year. Merry Christmas!

Papers are not my friend and I am not good at keeping up with filing them, so any suggestions on how to maintain paperwork would be great!!!
