Even though my kids don’t go back to school until the first of September, I did a quick Facebook poll and quickly learned that many of you have kids going back to school in August.

Yes it’s definitely that time of the year again when the lazy days of summer can quickly turn into an overwhelmed chaotic nightmare if we aren’t prepared for back to school.  And by prepared I mean organized.

Incorporating some simple organized solutions into your day can take you from stressed out to calm and controlled when it comes to getting the kids out the door and off to school each day.  Continue reading here.

  1. I need help with our backpack station. It’s been moved twice now and it’s still not really working for me. Currently it’s at the bottom of the stairs on a bench so it;s accessible from upstairs and down, which that part it works well for. The bad part is that I still end up with MESS and there’s nowhere nearby (or a place to put one I can think of) to put school papers, etc within the same area. I’ve thought of doing 3 bins under the bench (we have 3 kids) for the papers that breed so quickly, and assorted “stuff” that gets brought home, but I’m afraid I’m just making three potential Hot Spots by doing that..

Also, jackets and hats hang above the bench so everything except lunches are together to run out the door.

  2. Can you throw papers away? I clean out backpacks in our kitchen when the kids (3) get home and toss everything except the first paper that comes home with their name written on it and the last one – unless its a story, handprint, etc. Those keepsakes go in my craft room to put in their scrapbooks. If its a paper referencing something that has to be done in the future it goes in a clip on the refridgerator and the event is marked on the calendar with a ‘P’ beside it so I know there is a paper to look at. Everything else gets tossed.

  3. I am constantly throwing away stuff, but I learned last year to keep every.single.piece.of.paper from each kid because they were getting marked 0 on some assignments that I knew they had done. I started keeping everything and then when there was a 0 I had the graded paper to send back and say “Uh, NO, you graded this!”.

My calendar is on my phone – I try to keep up with one for everyone to see but I am really bad about it. We’re experimenting with google calendar right now since the kids have gmail too and I can sync it with my phone. Their new school is supposed to post assignments online as well as grades, so I will probably find a way to repost that to google calendar with an assigned color for homework, etc.
