Happy menu day everyone! Hey do you remember a little while ago I showed you my pretty menu board that I got on clearance from a little general store in my area. Here’s a reminder:
I really do love it except for one teeny tiny little thing….I DON’T USE IT!! The squares are so tiny and my chalk too big so for now I’ve gone back to my old method using my week over week dry erase magnetic calendar. What I need though and have heard exists is a chalkboard pen but I can’t seem to find them here in Canada. Well I’m thinking Michaels probably has them but I’m two hours outside of the city. Does anyone know where I can buy them online in Canada? I’d really like to get back to using my pretty menu board. Help!!

Made Moneywise Mom’s Mac & Cheese you featured last week for a friend that just had a baby… thanks for the idea!

So? What did y’all think of Taco Bake?
Laura says
Hi Kelli, would you believe we never ended up making it! Last week got all turned around with my daughter getting braces on and we ended up having soup a few nights. Will keep it on my list though 🙂
The Happy Housewife says
That board is super cute! I totally understand about the chalk though. I hope you can find something. Does Amazon not ship to Canada?
Toni
Laura says
No Amazon.com doesn’t. We do have Amazon.ca here but it’s only books and dvds, nothing like your Amazon. I’m so jealous by all your selection!
SnoWhite @ Finding Joy in My Kitchen says
Thanks for hosting again this week, Laura. Your menu looks great!
I’ve been using that week-over-week menu board for nearly 3 years and I think it would be tough to switch…even though the chalkboard one is super cute 🙂
Laura says
I LOVE my week over week calendar for menu planning but my fridge front got rather small on me when I switched to a large magnetic family calendar for there 🙂

Hi Laura,
I love the looks of your meatloaf pie. Thanks for hosting and have a wonderful week!

My kids might want to eat dinner at your house on Friday with the Banana Brownie Waffles. 🙂
Thanks for always hosting.

I am not sure if it would work the same, but they do make chalk pens for quilting. Our Walmart carries them, but for ordering online I would check out JoAnn’s. It really is such a lovely menu board it is a shame not to use it.
Liz@HoosierHomemade says
I bet my boys would love the Banana Brownie Waffles! Yum!
Thanks for hosting Laura!

I love a good cheap find-now that menu planning board was one for sure!

One of the things I thought about doing as a summer project is buying a large picture frame and using chalkboard paint to create my own large menu plan board. I actually think I saw the idea on your site…maybe? I think that would help because then you can make it as large as you need to.
And of course love the resources you offer every week!! Thanks!
Nickeletta says
Hmmm, I’ve never heard of a chalkboard pen. Maybe an office supply store might have them?
I use a plain dry erase board for my menu planning. It doesn’t have weekdays listed on it, as I like to keep my plans flexible.
I have thought about using small post-its on a regular calendar so that the meals are easily moved around on the board, but I haven’t tested that idea yet.
Thanks for hosting Menu Planning Monday- it’s a great resource!

Thank you for being here again this week.
That Honey Ginger Baked Chicken looks fantastic. I’ll certainly be adding it to the list of things to try in coming days.
Confession: I had stopped posting and sharing my weekly menus (well, being social at all, especially online) but the emails that kept landing in my mailbox nagged at me, reminding me that I needed to do this, needed to make this one small effort. Long story short, after a lot of grieving, mourning, and dealing with depression (which I’m still battling), I’m here again. Trying. Again. Because I kept getting emails notifications from your blog, especially the Meal Plan Monday emails.

Those Banana Brownie Waffles sound sooooo good. I don’t have a waffle iron, but I bet I could turn them into pancakes and my kids would love them. Thanks for hosting Laura!
Wendy @ Celiacs in the House says
I love the idea of a chalkboard, but hate the feeling of chalk on my hands. I just looked at the chalk pens on Amazon and now I want some! They even have colors. I also loved that link to the magnetic board tutorial. If I still had homeschooled young ones around, we’d be doing that board with all the food pictures. Thanks for the ideas again this week.
Marcia Francois, Organising Queen says
Funny you should say this because I lOVE the look of the chalkboard stuff all over the internet. Finally I bought a cute heart-shaped board for the kitchen and…. I forgot I can’t stand the sound of chalk writing.
I cringe every time I use it. So now I’m going to write one more permanent message and call it a day 🙂
Marci@OvercomingBusy says
I am the same way!! Love the look, HATE the sound!!!
Corrie (Brennan's Mom) says
Oh! I love the look of those chalkboard pens! I’m going to pop over to Michael’s tonight and take a look for them… If they have them, I’ll let you know, Laura! You’ve got some great looking items on your menu this week, I’ll have to try the Tortellini Caesar Salad! YUM! Thanks for hosting!

The Meat loaf pie and the banana brownie waffles are going to be on my menu next week. They look scrumptious. Thanks for sharing

That menu board is cute. Hope you find the chalkboard pens. Thanks for hosting!
Char says
That is a cute board. I have decided what works best for me is a template I have set up on the computer. I fill it in each Sunday, print it out, then slide it into a plastic sheet protector and hang it on the fridge. I have included it in my MPM post this week.
Have a great one!

Jami @ An Oregon Cottage says
Wish I could help with the pens, but I’ve never seen them either. I have a chalkboard freezer door, though, that I use to keep track of the contents that they would be good for- I’ll have to search them out too!
Thanks always, for the great resources!
Laura says
Oh my goodness, love that you have a chalkboard freezer door, how cool is that! Did you do it yourself?
Jami @ An Oregon Cottage says
Yep- just chalkboard paint + molding on an old freezer. I really like it- especially because it’s someplace people see! Here’s the link if you’re interested:

Hi there? Is there any way I can remove a link I posted for Menu Monday? I did it wrong and would like to take it off. I’m just starting and learning from my mistakes! Thanks!
Chrissy
Laura says
Hi Chrissy, no worries. If you let me know the number you’d like deleted I can do it for you.
Angie says
Laura! Thank you so much for including my camping post today! I will have a look at Staples & Micheal’s for the chaulk pens for you and see what I can find! I could always just pop them in the mail to you! Have a marvelous Monday! Angie xo

Ahh Angie you’re a doll but another reader beat you to it. She emailed me earlier to say she had an abundance and would mail me some. So cool, feeling blessed!!

I found chalkboard pens at DeSerres. It looks like you can order them here: http://www.deserres.ca/en-ca/search/chalk-marker-bistro/MV48/
We used them for a friend’s wedding seating board and we had to fit a lot of names and they were very easy to uses in small spots and still looked great.
BTW, I love your blog. I follow on google reader on my phone so I can rarely comment but your encouragement and ideas on here (and links you’ve suggested) have really helped me get my house in order! Thank you!
Laura says
Hi Tara, thanks for your sweet comment and link! A reader saw my post and offered to send me some of her extras, I can’t wait to try them out!!
Laurel says
The tortellini caesar salad is going to make it to my menu list.
Keri says
I totally didn’t know they made chalkboard pens! I could definitely use these because I hate the mess that chalk dust makes in my kitchen. Off to Google…
Martine says
Deserre.ca in Canada has them, if there is no local store to you they will ship. They have lots of colours to choose from. Very easy to spend money at that store:) http://www.deserres.ca/en-ca/products/graphic-arts/pens-and-markers/chalk-marker-bistro/104/MV48/
Martine says
Just saw that Tara found them for you too!
Mary Ann says
Meatloaf pie and the banana brownie waffles sound yummy! The chalkboard is super cute. Was wondering too about Amazon?
Laura says
Amazon.com unfortunately doesn’t ship to Canada and Amazon.ca is only books and dvds. So sad because Amazon.com has everything!!
Pam says
Chalkboard pens/markers – check Scholars Choice or there is a Teacher Supply Outlet store on North Service Road in Oakville (North of the QEW) – Check there. We teachers are often using those markers for the blackboard to leave things on there that we want up for the whole year and don’t want to risk have to rewrite everyday due to excess wiping and writing.
Queen of the House says
Mmmm!! Tortellini Caesar Salad sounds like a recipe I would like to try!
Hope you find your chalkboard pen soon because that little menu plan board is adorable! 🙂
Melisa says
Hi Laura,
Stumbled across your site. Noticed you are looking for the chalk ink markers, I just purchased some from an Etsy shop called SimpleShapes. Haven’t found them anywhere in Saskatchewan yet though. Hope that helps some.
