This past weekend we were busy moving beds around. My baby (2 in Nov) got my daughter’s twin bed and my daughter (10) got a new double bed. Of course this required both rooms to be re-arranged, over-hauled and purged out as we went along.
In addition to that my middle son (7) and I tackled his room. I didn’t want him to feel left out of all the fun….lol. It definitely needed some re-organization again. Three hours and a full big black garbage bag later and we were done! You should have seen how proud he was of it too. In fact he was so excited that he told me he was going to keep it like that, you know where you could actually see his floor! Ya that lasted all of two days…sigh. Anyway I completely forgot to take pictures for you but once I start my rampage I completely zone out and forget about everything else. For a visual though you can go here to see the last time we did it. Just imagine it ten times worse this time around when we started and the desk and dresser both re-arranged.
I also managed to get two big totes of kid’s clothing to the consignment store. I just didn’t feel up to putting any of it on ebay this time (it’s a lot of work), taking them to the consignment store was just easier and it gets them out of my house faster. One of these days I will get around to sharing my clothing system with you, I promise. I also took bags and bags of stuff to the Salvation Army. It is just so freeing to have it all out of here. It’s all just stuff anyway. One of my favorite quotes is this one:
You never see a hearse pulling a uhaul!
When your home is organized and decluttered…you will be a different person. Your outlook on life changes. Situations that seemed out of control and chaotic now seem manageable. When you wake up and walk to the kitchen to make coffee and your counter-top is clean…your day just got that much easier. The state of your home is in direct proportion to the state of your heart/mind. When you have piles of stuff all over your house, your spirit just gets bogged down with all of it whether you know it or not. When you don’t have to worry about moving your STUFF around, cleaning your STUFF, and storing your STUFF…you have a lot more time to spend doing things things that you love and spending time with your family and friends! And that’s what life is all about.
Amen!

Oooh, I’m first!
What fun for you – I also feel like a new woman with my clothes and handbags sorted.
And that quote is so true – why are we keeping all this stuff anyway? You know I limit the stuff to one or two outlets and the rest goes!
Tomorrow I’m talking about clothes in the weekly tips – I actually can’t wait to write the article 🙂

I find your posts so inspiring. I need to take charge and start purging. I hate clutter but at the same time I tend to be a pack rat with things and the things I don’t pack rat then it seems those are the things my husband is guilty of holding on to. I need to point him over here. Maybe he’ll get a bit of inspiration to dig into it with me.

Oh, that last quote is soooo true in my life. When things are cluttered, I get anstier and angrier till I finally realize it’s the clutter that is getting to me. Unfortunately, I haven’t figured out how to rid myself of the clutter on my dresser. It seems to be the catch all for all my papers that I can’t file immediately.

This reminds me that I need to go ahead and reorganize the office again…*sigh*…work is never done. 🙂 Good Post!

I just found your blogg yesterday but thank God I love it. I’m already inspired. I’m always looking for idea and reasons to declutter.

I just heaved a sigh of relief for you! 🙂 I love re-doing a room. It is when I really clean behind or under furniture that hasn’t been moved. I am always surprised that dirt got under there! lol. Lately I have been trying to keep up with the declutterfying so it isn’t such a big task. It really does make for a happier home, and I’m not embarrassed to invite someone in who just drops by unexpected.
Fun post!

Love this…I was telling Melissa from The Inspired Room that my motto is a twist on the Top Gun line “I feel the need…the need for speed.” Mine is “I feel the need…the need to weed.”
I have been paring down over the last couple of years, and just recently went back through everything in our home. It feels good to get down to the things you absolutely love or need.

Laura,
You taught me better than anyone that De-cluttering translated into De-stressing! It is one of the best lessons I’ve learned in my adult life.
Thanks for sharing another great article about this!

Laura, thank you so much for your prayers for my family this week. We’ve needed it, and we appreciate it beyond words.

Wise words. I know how much better I feel when my house is not messy and is organized. I just wish I knew what to DO with some of it… that’s where the problem lies, I think. Especially in my home office space, which is not much of a space at all.

This is inspiring.
I will be doing this same thing–SOON. My 3yo is still in his crib, but he’s going to get my daughter’s stuff, and we might move the guest room stuff to her room and move our stuff there and then buy us new furniture. Sounds complicated, huh?

I’ve only started reading your blog in the last few days and you are such an inspiration! Now I just need you to come to my house because I have so much junk stuffed in every room, closet, nook and cranny that I don’t even know where to start. Stuff. Such a simple little word that is causing me so much trouble.
