Why I spent $200.00 on a garbage can!

At 8:00 at night one would hope not to see a bear on their driveway but that is exactly what we saw tonight (from within the house thank goodness!).

This little bear was looking for dinner! Unfortunately for him, I got smart this year and purchased a bear proof garbage can. It was fun to watch him try to get into it though but it wasn’t to be!

Too bad, so sad!

Ah, summer with bears in the neighbourhood. I know what that can be like. We haven’t had any town so far this summer though. Maybe I should buy a bear proof garbage can to keep out those crafty ravens though!
Did the wildlife people come to relocate the bear?

A bear? Glad you were inside taking that picture. We usually have a couple in the woods around us in the summer, but they are just passin’ through. I can’t believe even your gargage is organized. I’m in awe of you :)

Oh, I can’t wait to show this to my “medium” kid! He’s a bear fanatic! They are not so common in our neck of the woods. But one was spotted in town last week…Gray immediately wanted to go out and look for him. Rich took him out searching, but no luck.

    BTW…letter on the way.

Wow!! I can’t imagine looking out my window to see a bear!! I can say that’s neat, but in the next breath I’m thinkin’ how do you let your kids out to play knowing there could be a bear??!! Not that bears live next door, but still! That’s a totally different world to me.

We are quite use to bears in this neck of the woods but believe me this is a little too close for comfort for me. I might never let the kids leave the house again!!!

That is so cool! I was just telling my husband the other night that is the one thing I have’nt seen and really want to. Funny I would stumble across your blog. I actually found it the other night and am very excited! I love that you share you Monday Meal Planning. I am very organized, I think but I hate meal planning. I do it but not consistenly however. It does make the week run so much smoother. Thanks for all your blogging!! I’ll be a regular for sure!

Okay, that is most definitely a sight I would NOT want to see in my driveway! I grew up out in the country with bears and bobcats living in the surrounding woods, but I’ve become rather suburbanized and don’t miss those bears one bit!

Are these also raccoon proof? If so, where can I get one? I just spent yet another morning cleaning up after they feasted on our garbage.

I live in Charleston WV, just moved here. The occassional bear sighting is common here. Haven’t personally witness this yet, but I’m a little nervous when I hear rustling in the woods when I’m taking my walk at the local park.

We don’t have bears, but we have raccoons and possums. They love to break into the dog food bin and gorge themselves. So irritating! Must put bungie cord on my list to keep the lid on….

Oh for sure but for the most part black bears are pretty scared of humans. Seems the bears in my town though are getting a little too use to humans for my liking.

I have to admit when I saw that you had spent $200.00 on a garbage can I thought you had lost it, but seeing and knowing that the garbage can is bear proof made me think maybe I am the crazy one for not having purchased one myself. Having to clean up garbage on more than one occassion, I think you made a very wise choice. Victory is yours!
