Organizing for your personality….

in Organizing

About a month ago I posted about organizing being an ongoing PROCESS and I’d like to expand on this. So many people get it into their head that once they get organized everything will be great and they will live happily ever after in their organized state. Well yes that could definitely happen but rarely does it happen the first time around. Why? It takes time to recognize our own organizing personality. What works for one person may or may not work for another. It is one thing to set up an elaborate system but quite another to maintain it. The key word here is maintain. Once you have your system in place you need to be able to work your system.

If your system isn’t working for you, there is something wrong with your system.

It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you….it simply means you haven’t found the right system for you yet….one that matches your personality. For example, if you like to have all your papers out where you can see them DO NOT file them away into a filing cabinet because some crazy Org Junkie says that would be a great idea. Instead a system should be devised that allows those papers to still be organized yet still in plain view. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but if it works for you, it is okay! The point is you may have gone ahead and purchased grand filing cabinets that you had every intention of using but didn’t…..no worries….go through the PROCESS again and this time work with your personality and not against it.

An organizing system that is clearly working for you makes it easy for you to maintain.

There are organizing solutions out there to fit every personality. It may take going through the PROCESS a couple of times to narrow the right one down for you but once you do the rewards are very sweet.

Remember:

Getting organized means freeing up time and money to spend on the things that really matter…..spirituality, emotional well being, physical health and loving relationships.

Do you have an area that isn’t working for you? Give yourself a present and rework your system keeping your goals and personality in mind and NOT someone else’s expectation of how an area should look and flow for you.

Tomorrow I’ll be posting a Saturday Solution that I did with my girlfriend and I know it wouldn’t work for me but it does work for my girlfriend and that is all that matters!

As I’m working on getting organized I was just thinking about some of these things this morning. How cool is that? I love your ideas and how you make it so real.

Looking forward to more postings.

Great post! I was just talking about this with a friend-how I organize and think I’m done, and when I have to re-do it I am less than thrilled. I have to stay on top of things and make good organizing habits. I can’t wait to see your solution for your friend tomorrow. :)

Neat! I’d be happier using your method because it looks neat, but it would also slow me down so much that I wouldn’t keep up with new recipes. So I could do well to use her method for incoming recipes until I had time to get them into a real organized binder. I am not planning to do this today, but it’s a keeper! Thanks!

This page/post just gave me a great idea for the papers lying all around near my desk! You said that for some people (that’d be me) hiding papers away doesn’t work… so true! For me, they’re “out-of-sight-out-of-mind”! So, your post triggered the thought that I could buy a hanging wall-file, and tack it up next to my desk — then put labels on each bin (Blog Stuff / Book Stuff / Reminders), and store my papers there!…instead of the papers lying over every surface of the desk, with me never able to find the one I’m looking for without having to dig. ;)

THANK YOU!!!! I love your website! :D
