Hi friends, happy Friday to you! I’m busy planning a birthday party for myself that is coming up at the end of the month, so that is fun. The last birthday party I threw for myself was 5 years ago when I hosted an Ugly Dress Party. I gave a bit of a clue to this year’s theme when I shared my 10 Years of Blogging photo shoot with you earlier this week.
The dress I’m wearing in the pictures I actually bought for my party, yep it’s going to be all about the polka dots. Fun right?! I’m totally an introvert but I think I can handle throwing a party every five years, ha!
Oh and if you haven’t had a chance to enter to win a few of my favorite things yet, be sure to head on over and enter to win HERE.
So because I have this party coming up I’ve been busy doing some deep cleaning, seriously if you want a clean home just throw yourself a party. It’s great motivation! I haven’t cleaned my tile grout in my kitchen for a very long time and it’s been driving me crazy. I’ve tried so many different methods but nothing seemed to work very well. Then the other day while searching through Pinterest I found a grout recipe I hadn’t tried before and decided to give it a go. Well not only did it work, it worked so well that I was absolutely fascinated by the entire process and just kept going until my entire kitchen/dining room area was done. My ten year old son worked right along beside me helping to wipe up the yuck after I sprayed the area and lightly scrubbed it with a toothbrush. He was fascinated too. It was so dirty and disgusting and now it looks AMAZING!
The recipe I used is:
7 cups water
1/2 cup baking soda
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup vinegar
I just mixed it all up in a glass measuring cup and then poured it into a spray bottle. Here’s a quick picture I took with my iPhone, the difference is even greater now because the top clean part was still a little bit wet when I snapped this picture. Seriously try it!
Another one of my favorites for this past week also has to do with cleaning, specifically some deep vacuuming. My husband and I are exact opposites, while piles of stuff drive me crazy, for my husband dirty floors drive him nutso. We compliment each other nicely that way. So he often takes care of the vacuuming and lately he’s been testing out a new vacuum sent to us by Oreck called the Magnesium RS Vacuum.
I have to mention this one because he actually gives this particular vacuum, a 9.5 out of 10 which is huge because he is a tough critic. The only reason he didn’t give it a 10 was because there are no small attachments with it which makes doing stairs a little tricky. But in terms of suction and picking up the dirt, he says it is awesome. He also appreciates the HEPA filter bag as he can’t stand bagless vacuums and dust flying everywhere when you try and dump them. I personally really liked that it’s so light, less than 8 pounds actually, you can carry it with one hand plus it’s easy for kids to push which is the best part of all! Honestly, I wouldn’t even tell you about this if it didn’t pass the test. Believe me, I have actually sent back another popular brand vacuum that did not make the cut for us. We were definitely impressed with this one.
So my house is looking good and almost ready for a party, whoot! Oh and if you’ve got any big group party games you can recommend, I’d love if you could tell me about them in the comments. Thanks!
