The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Rachel at Useful Beautiful Home.
“The best part of wakin’ up…” I write the Folgers jingle with that recognizable tune stuck in my head. It’s one of those advertising earworms for sure! While I don’t drink that brand, I do agree that one of the motivating factors for me to get up early is coffee. Mmmmm, I love me a good ol’ cup of coffee or two; or the whole pot because I’m the only java lover in my house. 🙂
Enough about my love for coffee. Let’s talk about my dislike in the coffee realm and how it relates to this post. I’m not a fan of room temperature coffee. Yuck. But then, let’s talk about reality. In the real world, I’m constantly setting down my coffee cup to tie a shoe, help someone find something, or address another issue that only a Mommy can fix. So, unless I finish my cup of coffee before the family wakes, my favorite beverage runs a high risk of getting neglected and passing it’s delicious drinking prime.
My topic today is not compensated advertising, but simply what I genuinely find helpful as well as how I keep it convenient (aka organized). I was gifted a silicone lid intended as an environmentally friendly way of storing food or drink in the fridge. I’m sure you’ve seen these before (pictured below), right? They also come in larger sizes to cover baking dishes. The point is to use something washable rather than disposable wrap to keep the fridge smells from contaminating whatever you’re covering. The trouble is, I always forget to use them, until I found my recent “aha” moment.
I was getting ready to enjoy my freshly brewed, perfectly doctored cup of coffee only to be interrupted before the first inviting sip. I grabbed this silicone lid thingy and plopped it on top of my coffee. Guess what? When I returned to finally take that first sip ten minutes later, my coffee was still piping hot and perfect-o! Yep, I love this little lid thing-a-ma-jig for keeping my coffee hot. It’s not advertised for busy gals who can’t drink coffee uninterrupted, but boy is it a perfect fit for said audience!
I share all of the above in case you’re like me and could use a little coffee covering friend. Do you also find yourself continually setting down your favorite hot beverage multiple times in the morning (or afternoon if needing a pick-me-up)? I like returning to my sipping delight knowing it’s still warm and no one has sneezed in it, or worse. How ’bout you? 🙂
As for the organization part of it all, I couldn’t find a suitable storage place for this handy disc. I would usually just toss it on top of the coffee maker or near my mugs but that wasn’t working for me. Then I noticed the hole and decided to try hanging it on the coffee maker with one of these (affiliate link) clear hooks. I’m all about finding unlimited ways to employ a sticky-back hook and do believe I have created yet another use! I’m rivaling Laura’s love for Command products. 😉
Inconspicuous and handy. Love it! Hanging it where needed makes more sense than finding it squished in the back of a drawer or cupboard. I’ve been using it like this for a few weeks and no trouble with the adhesive getting too warm on the side of our coffee brewer.
I don’t usually do this here at OrgJunkie, but I’m running a quick giveaway for a set of two reusable silicone cup lids on my blog, so stop on by to enter the raffle! It’s my birthday this weekend, so I have to do something fun in blog land to celebrate! See ya over at Useful Beautiful Home for the chance to win! Happy coffee-sippin’ weekend! 🙂

I love when things come together like this. It might not be the intended purpose but it works perfectly. Good for you, and thanks for sharing.
I don’t have these silicone toppers so I will be entering your giveaway.
I am a 3M hook and sticky junkie though.

Cold coffee is a common problem for me also- as I get distracted too easily and are usually trying to multitask. Looks like you have found a great solution!

Genius! I have a large silicone lid that was given to me as a gift and honestly, I rarely use it. This coffee mug size would be used a lot by me. I love this idea! Please pick me.

Thank you so much for the great idea! Now I need to go buy me one of these.
