Sugar and Flour Containers from Booster Juice

Last weekend we took a little road trip to drop my daughter off at horse camp.  On the way home we stopped at one of my favorite places for a snack, Booster Juice.  It’s a healthy smoothie type place for those that don’t have these in your area.  I love my smoothies!!

Anyway while standing there waiting for my order I saw they had a stack of empty (and clean) frozen yogurt tubs against the wall with a big sign that said 4 for $1.00 with all the dollars going to charity.  The tubs were such a great size (not too big, not too small) and of course I got excited just imaging all the various ways I could use these lovely containers.  No doubt I had to bring some home with me.  They were calling my name, I swear.  I just couldn’t turn my back on them.

So come home with me they did. I found the perfect use for them in my cupboard to hold my flour and sugar.  I use to have the proper Tupperware containers for this purpose in my old house but unfortunately those containers didn’t fit into my new space but luckily my new tubs do.

Say hello to my new friends everyone.

I used my Silhouette to cut the label letters out and of course I gave them a thorough washing myself just to be sure they were clean.  Also in case you are wondering, the reason I have two for flours is because one tub wasn’t quite big enough for a 10 kg bag of flour.  I keep my whole wheat flour in the fridge.

So if you’ve got a smoothie shop or an ice cream parlor nearby consider asking them what they do with their old tubs.  They might even be willing to give them away for free.  Recycling at it’s best for sure for everything from toys to craft projects!

I love my new sugar and flour containers!

Just something to think about this fine summer day.  Have fun!

Have you used ice cream tubs for organizing projects?

  1. Yes, all the time Laura. Although I haven’t approached my local ice cream shop. Not so much now, only because it’s winter here in Australia, but in summer we go through a lot of ice cream. I go through a lot of 4 litre tubs and they’re just excellent for storing lots of bits and pieces.

Cake decorating tools, small toys and blocks, girl’s little toys, first aid supplies like bandages, spices and packets of dried herbs, sprinkles and cupcake toppers/candles etc, pet supplies and medications etc etc.

    They’re just great, aren’t they?

  2. We have a family-owned donut shop nearby that sells their large buckets for $1 each. They’re much bigger than what you got, so not good for pantry storage, but they’re great for garage storage. They’re a bit of work to clean (a bit greasy from the donut frostings and glazes originally stored in them), but occasionally dh sends me over there to see if they have any available … and can you imagine that the kids like to go with me? Must be the donuts I buy when I’m there LOL!

  3. haha- I find this really funny. Grabbing a smoothie…to kitchen storage. Law of attraction at work there for you.
    🙂

  4. Growing up my mom used to go to the local fish market and get plastic rectangular bins from them. We used those for a lot of my toys. I’m not sure where she got the idea as my family doesn’t eat fish. But they never smelled fishy, were probably free, and worked out well. Just thinking about them now is making me a bit nostalgic.

  5. Here we used to have 5-gallon ice cream buckets; now they’re 4-4.5-gallons, but they’re GREAT, with drop-down handles and tight-fitting lids. I’ve reused for food storage, as well as for the boys’ little toys (Army men, etc.). They work for Legos for MOST kids, but not mine, and they stack nicely. DH has used them in the garage for a variety of things, too. A nice, safer, alternative to the old 5# coffee cans!
