Re-purposing products to help you organize

I get so excited when I can come up with an organizing solution using an old item that might just have otherwise been tossed.   I have some friends that are particularly good at this that have taught me how to see beyond what an item was originally designed for and turn it into a creative organizing solution.

Organizing doesn’t have to cost a lot of money and being able to re-purpose items can be a huge factor in that.  Check out my post today about Thrift Store Organizing Solutions over at Organizing…Your Way and feel free to share your own re-purposing stories there.

  1. I have just recently become an “organizer” (not professionally, but at home), and when I opened my eyes to the possibilities that repurposing brings, it’s so exciting! Now I try to repurpose everything. It doesn’t always work out – but more often than not I find a great solution that I’ve been looking for for ages – in the conventional way.

  2. I am getting ready to cover sturdy cardboard boxes with fabric – to use as storage! I haven’t done it before. Ever heard of this idea? Or have you succeeded? Any tips? 🙂

  3. I have a small home (for a fam of 6) and so organizing for me is top priority. I like the muffin pan idea for organizing small items. I’ve also seen muffin cups used as organizing tools. I love new ideas. This was a nice post! Thank you.

  4. I love this post! Re-using things is also something i am passionate about. I recently started to hang old wooden fruit crates against the wall in my kitchen and use them like shelving. It looks pretty cool and costs next to nothing.

  5. Re-purposing is what I STRUGGLE with…unless I have a “need” for something at the time…I can’t seem to save it to use later as I never come up with what to use it for…ugh. Maybe there’s something in your book about that??? Haven’t gotten a chance to start it yet but hope to soon sit down with it and not be interrupted. THANKS too for the bookmark…always a handy item when reading!!! 🙂

  6. My mom is VERY good at this. She is constantly coming over to our house and “gleening” items to decorate her home. I mostly work with repurposing baskets. I’ve been collecting them since I was in high school and they just migrate all over the house carrying various things. My best repurposing is the basket our florist gave us for our flower decorations at our wedding 13 years ago. It now houses snacks on top of the refrigerator.
