Just wanted to answer a few questions that came up last week with regards to this beautiful picture of my girlfriend’s command center.
The cute magnetic picture frame key holders are from Lego but unfortunately aren’t available right now on the Lego site.
If you need more help creating a command center of your very own, this post from the past might help you with that and give you a few ideas.
For those interested in free responsibility charts, I created some awhile ago for my own family that you are more than welcome to print and use:
I’ve written before about why I think it’s a good idea to teach responsibility and you can read that story here.
As for the Fridge File, I can’t wait to send someone on a $100 Org Junkie Shop shopping spree (you might get even more excited about that when you see the cutest baskets I just added to my shop). To be eligible for this one, simply purchase the very awesome Fridge File for $13.00 + shipping (you can see the white one in the picture above for containing all those very important papers, schedules and notices) before Friday at midnight and you’ll be automatically entered. That is if we get 60 orders or more but guess what? We only have 20 more to go! Think we can do it? I think we can! Pass it on!
Oh and before I forget I wanted to tell you that last month’s promotion included giving away $100 to charity. I selected the charity from the comments I received on that post and I’m happy to say that at the recommendation of Angela Garza I’ve chosen to donate to The Liz Logelin Foundation. Here is a little more info from Angela:
“It was started by her husband Matt after her tragic death a day after giving birth to their daughter. He writes a beautiful, heartfelt blog about raising their daughter Madeline as a young Widower. He started the foundation because of so many blog readers that were wanting to help out and most of the donations come from his readers. The focus of the foundation is to give grants to recent widows and widowers with children to help ease their financial burdens. It’s an awesome blog community that has formed around him and his daughter Madeline, go check out his blog and the foundation.”
Thanks Angela for telling me about this site. One of my best girlfriends lost her husband to cancer only a few years ago at such a young age and that is why this charity really resonated with me.

I just had to order 2 fridge files! One for home, and one for my whiteboard at school! Can’t wait to get them 🙂 I’m in the process now of deciding what my family needs in a command center – don’t want to clutter it up with unneeded things! Thanks for the ideas 🙂

Does the blue fridge file have a calendar and the white one have a blank white board? is there a white one with a calendar?
Laura says
Yes only the blue fridge file comes with the calendar and the white one is the blank white board. Not sure why that is though…hmmm.

Since those cute photo hooks are not available… I wanted to share an easy way to make a photo magnet. (This is what my kids preschool used for attendance then they were sent home at the end of the year).
You will need: A frozen juice can lid, a magnet, a photo of your child, a little glue or tape. Put the photo on the ‘outside’ part of the can w/ the raised edge. You might need to crimp the inside edge w/ a pair of pliers. Cut the photo into a circle the size inside the raised edge.
I haven’t tried it myself but if the preschool teacher could do it for 2 classes (40 kids) it has to be easy. You could either add a hook or buy/make magnetic hooks to put next to the frames.

I def. want to order a fridge file, it’s perfect for my family since there’s mom, dad, son and daughter. I’m glad to know that only one color comes w/a calendar so the blue one I’ll be ordering. We just moved and got new appliances, I am trying hard not to clutter up the front of our fridge. Can it be mounted other ways than by magnets? If not I can get a huge magnet/dry erase board, mount that up on the wall in the office and then put the fridge file on there.
Laura says
Yes you could definitely also mount it with push pins or even double sided velcro on the back. I’m just not sure it would hold as many papers but it would still hold a fair amount that way.

I love having one place to go to find info about what’s happening with the family, chores, etc. And to have one that looks as nice as this is a benefit! Thanks!

Good day. I have enjoyed reading all the different ideas that you have gave. However, I still need some advise. I have 4 children from the age of 2-14 and I am in need of a Command Center. However, I am not for sure how to start or where to start. Could you please advise how? If you could please advise that would be so great…..
Thank you
