Seems I wasn’t the only one writing about COURAGE yesterday as one of my readers pointed out to me. Millionaire Mommy Next Door wrote a fantastic post summarizing all the BUTS we use to keep ourselves from achieving success, wealth and happiness in our lives.
I love this quote from her post which ties in so wonderfully to my courageous living post from yesterday:
Our lives are nothing but the stories we tell ourselves. If you don’t like the story your life has become — tell yourself a better one. Think about all of the things you can do instead of the things you can’t. Start a different internal conversation and you’ll become wealthy in more ways than one.
Please go on over and read her cleverly titled post “Is Your But Too Big?” in its entirety to see which BUTS you can identify with. I know I have definitely been guilty of a lot a few of them myself.
And now here’s my question to you if you feel comfortable sharing here (it’s fine if you’d rather answer anonymously).
If you didn’t have these BUTS standing in your way what one thing would you like to step out in COURAGE to accomplish? No matter how big or small, go ahead and put it out there.
Without fear and BUTS, I could ___________________.
My intention isn’t to put anyone on the spot but rather just provide an opportunity for us to recognize that often the only thing standing in our way is ourselves and our limiting beliefs.

Such a timely post, and headed straight to my bookmark folder.
I’ve always wanted to try freelance writing in a variety of forms, BUT I also need to support myself so I’ve stayed in my current job. Well, next year my job is quitting me, so I’ll have the opportunity to pursue that dream. For a little while, anyway. 🙂

A fear doesn’t really hold me back from accomplishing things I want to do, but rather it holds me back from experiencing more peace and joy because my BUTS don’t allow me to accept that God loves me the way HE created me. My fear and BUTS keep me stuck in my thoughts of how I think others must perceive me.
Without fears and BUTS, I could live a more joy-filled life in God’s truth.
God please help me to put fears and Buts to rest. K.

OK, this sounds totally random, but if we’re being honest…
I wish I had the courage to stop color-treating my hair.
I know, sounds silly, but in my devotionals, I’ve been feeling pulled to focus less on my appearance. Not as in taking fewer showers or anything, Lord knows that would be a disaster, but just focusing on letting my inner self define pretty.
Keeping up with my devotionals has made a big difference in my life, and I feel prettier on the inside lately. SO, I guess that’s why I’m feeling this way. But to have the courage to stop color-treating my hair, well, that would take a great deal of courage.
Not there yet.

This was so good Laura! If I had the courage I would go back to school and get a degree. In what, I have no idea but that’s what I would do.

Ahhh, yes, and isn’t that true with Reluctant Entertaining, too?
Great post Laura! ?

Thanks, Laura, for referring to my “big but” post! I had a blast putting this one together.
Let’s see, today I need to eliminate this “but” — I need to tackle a big pile of paperwork BUT it bores me silly and I want to procrastinate. So, without this BUT, I could enjoy serene peace of mind knowing that it’s done. Hmmm. Would it be called procrastination if I spend some time surfing your site for organizational inspiration and advice first?? ;>)

You have no idea how much I can relate to both of your posts. I am always the person someone goes to to get advice.

I have a suggestion for those of you who let clean laundry pile up in the hamper. I was so prone to do that until I started just putting away one thing any time I past that hamper and usually I would keep going until it was all done BUT I only said that I had to pick up one item and deal with it. That system also works for mail, dishes, whatever. Clumps of cat hair on the floor you name it just handle one item.
