Hello Org Junkie Readers! I hope 2014 is being good to you so far!
I have been busy on a journey for 2014 to get my home back to ship shape again. You see, while I was blogging full-time and having fun creating projects in 2013, there were areas of my home that gradually became my deep and dirty secrets. Yes. It’s true! So I have made it a mission to spend 15-20 minutes a day tackling these spots….one drawer, one shelf, and one basket at a time. 15 minutes a day keeps the messes away!
Let me show you what was previously an organized medicine shelf, but had become messier than a bowl of spaghetti.
I was like, “Whoah girl! How did this happen?” I just wanted to shut the door and run away. But I knew if I set the timer and got to work, it wouldn`t take long to fix. While organizing this, I was amazed to find how things have changed since I last organized our medicines. My son has grown so much in height and weight, that we no longer need children`s medicines. So I was able to get rid of those items right away. And then I also discarded everything that had expired….which wasn`t too much thankfully because it also means wasted money.
And after 15 minutes, here is what I had. Everyone loves a good before and after don’t they?
The bottom row of baskets are: Vitamins, Dog Supplies and Batteries. Although batteries don’t seem to belong here per see, it is so handy to have them here for the digital thermometer and for flashlights too. Very simple strategy….but it works!
And then after I was finished this task, I SHUT the door. And then I opened it again and smiled at the nice organized baskets. Aaah! It feels so good! Then I made a little list of a few things that I noticed that we need…like band aids. We seem to go through a lot of band aids in this house!
So tell me, do you have any ‘dirty little secrets’ lurking behind a door or drawer? And if you set the timer for 15-20 minutes, what is the first thing that YOU would tackle?

Yep, Angie! I’m all about the 15 minute miracle, too!

And I loved that you shopped the closet to organize your space! The last thing most of us need is more bins and baskets. We’ve just gotta corral what we have and put them to work.
Stay warm!

What a coinky-dink! My medicine closet is a mess as well and I have some of the same ideas for cleaning it up– however I also have to merge it as a toy/craft storage too. Either way you have given me some inspiration to get cleaning!

Love it, Angie! I find things all the time that need organizing. Though most of our things stay in place, our lives change. As Miss 3 is no longer a baby, I have been purging our supplies of infant items.
Just this week, I could not find a lid to a container, so I ended up taking 10 minutes to reorganize a bottom kitchen cabinet and an upper kitchen cabinet: http://www.usingtimewisely.com/organization-kitchen-cabinets/
I can now open those doors and say with you, “Ah!” Thanks for sharing your story. You are in good company!

Don’t you love it when a space is so neat & tidy?! Angie xo

Yes! It even makes me a little giddy. Well, to be totally honest, a lot giddy. 🙂

We have too many ‘dirty little unorganized secrets’ in our house. The first one I will organize is the food storage shelves. (I have some cinnamon coffee that has gone missing. 🙁

Gah, I have whole rooms that are my “dirty little unorganized secrets”! Before my husband I got married, I discovered a drawer in his kitchen jammed with old papers. It was so shocking for me, he seemed so tidy and organized! It briefly made me wonder if I really knew this guy….we jokingly renamed it to “the drawer of shame” and still laugh about it.

Gotta love those quick fixes that make you feel so good! A basket on our kitchen counter holds iPads, keys and the like and oh boy did it get a tad out of control. In just a few minutes it was all good again!
