This giveaway is now closed. The winner is #35 Heather!
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this time of year and all the attention that organization gets. Everywhere you look people are talking about it, blogs are fired up about it, stores are featuring bins and baskets galore and of course every magazine has something about organizing on it’s cover.
I live in a pretty small town in Alberta, Canada that has a population of about 9000 people. The closest we have to a store carrying organizing supplies is Wal-mart but after seeing Jen’s post yesterday, Wal-mart doesn’t even come close to the organizing bliss that Target carries, wah. Although I guess that may be a blessing for my bank account because I could be in trouble otherwise! Jen showed much more restraint than I ever could I’ll tell you that much.
Hello, my name is Laura and I’m addicted to organizing.
So how do I get my must have organizing fix you ask? Magazines! Magazines with oodles of pictures for me to drool over. I’ve got my hands on three right now that are just scrumptious (not in an eating way though, I don’t eat my magazines, that would be weird but I do drool all over them just like I would if I really were eating something scrumptious).
This first one came in the mail. Remember a little while ago I told you about a brand new organizing magazine on the market called Getting Organized Magazine? Well my first issue finally arrived just yesterday, whoot! It’s only 38 pages long but I’m sure it will grow as they get going. Love their tag line: treat yourself to some sanity. Why thank you, don’t mind if I do 🙂
You can find out more about this magazine by clicking the button below and when you subscribe you get a FREE ebook as well!
Then while at the drug store the newest edition of Storage (Spring 2012) hit the racks so of course it found it’s way into my basket.
Then while there my eye caught the word organize again, this time on another magazine. I had to take it home, I can’t help myself!
This particular picture inside caught my eye because of the happy face mugs in the top corner. Ahhhh
I got all excited about it because guess who got a happy face mug for Christmas? Me! My daughter knows that next to organizing I am crazy about happy faces so she bought it for me. What does that have to do with organizing? Not much, I’m just a strange cat and the littlest things amuse me 🙂
Giveaway Time:
So I didn’t forget about you my lovely readers. You know I always pick up an extra Storage magazine when I see it to giveaway. And in honor of January and the organizing bliss all around I thought I’d throw in a copy of my book, Clutter Rehab, too. So one person will win both. To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me what your #1 spot to organize this month in your home is. Just a reminder though that if you’ve got a room that needs a whole lot of TLC don’t forget to take before pictures before you get started. You’ll be able to use it for my 29 Day Organizational Challenge coming in February. Yay!
Comments must be left by Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 pm PST to be eligible. Winner chosen at random.
See ya!

We are finishing our school year in two weeks time and then … a ten week summer break!!! I normally leave the packing up and organizing of the current years school stuff – and there is a lot of it!!! – until just before the start of the next year – well I am determined to get all the assignments and artwork and journals sorted in the first week – so that I can really forget about school during the break and have the shelves clear and ready for the arrival of next years boxes of school materials. Worth a try I reckon!!!

My desk / art table! It is such a disaster, and is just driving me crazy. I’m doing some serious art supply purging, with the idea that if I have less but can actually access it, I’ll art more. (Yes, art is a verb. 🙂 )
Leslie Barrett says
I am doing a major kitchen overhaul. Time to get all of those spices organized, as well as recipes, home management binder, bill paying center, etc!

We are organizing our home office – deep, deep….going into folder that are so old that they date back 20 years ago. Then on to closets and bookshelves and surfaces. It is an unbelievable chore as my husband holds on to everything…
Sarah Davis says
My next organizing project is my “dining” room (we don’t dine in it—-table’s in the ktichen). It’s used as a homeschool room & music room & library & pantry (remodeling the kitchen, so all my kitchen stuff is on shelves in this room for now). Can’t WAIT to get started!
Serena says
My basement is abysmal! It is the last space to complete! So close to a fully organized home!!!!

Oh and by the way, I have the SAME EXACT mug. She got it at Pier 1 didn’t she? LOL!
Have a lovely day.

The title of this post really caught my attention because I need to get my magazines organized! lol My goal is to read through and get rid of 5 magazines a week until it’s done. I’m sure it’ll take longer than a month.

I am a marine wife so naturally all my husbands gear is laying around are small apartment. And he is constantly unable to find what he needs when its needed! So my goal this month is to find an easy to find and kind of “hidden-away” storage solution for my husbands gear. So far, Ive put his summer uniforms in clear storage bins that roll under the bed. 🙂 And other suggestions would be appreciated!
Rachel says
We use a big rattan blanket chest to keep my husbands backpacks and body armour things in, and the big travel bags are under our bed. He has a couple of narrow freestanding wardrobes with several shelves and shirt length hanging rail for everyday and dress uniforms. He keeps some things in there in crates, like bulky cold weather gear, trainers etc. And smaller baskets for Capbadges and insignia, shoe cleaning kits plus room for his boots. He uses a lot of ziplock bags to keep things ready to pack that he always has to take with him. Things that are rarely used like different climate sleeping bags, single man tent, desert gear is stored in big clear plastic totes in our garage, but we have had them stacked in the corner of closets before when we haven’t had one. Basically we try to give things designated homes, like with like.
Carrie M says
Next up is my bedroom! I did the hall closet, coat closet and kitchen this fall. I had several boxes with items that needed to still be “relocated” in my living room floor when the holidays hit. Those boxes detoured to the bedroom which already needed help 🙁 I am determined to completely organize this house, my finances, my filing cabinet, my life in general! Blogs like yours really help keep me motivated and give me helpful information. Thank you!
Rene Leeper says
I’m working on finding the floor in our basement. We have a nice storage room that has become the catchall room for us. I want to be able to walk right in and find what I’m looking for without having to move 10 things just to get to what I want.

My spot to clean & organize is the spot behind my entry door & entry closet. It’s a weird shaped area & the closet wasn’t set up to be very functional.
Heather says
My book shelves have become a mess!

I have been following your blog since June. I have fallen off the wagon a coupla times, but I love how motivational your posts have been to me to bring me back. So far I have tackled “under the stairs” and a couple other neglected areas… but my #1 spot to organize this month will be the kitchen drawers. I can’t wait to see how much space I can reclaim.
Thanks for the great give away offer!

I’m currently working on my living/play room. I did Round 1 of sorting it on Monday, but I’ve got lots more sorting ahead of me. I’d love to win, thanks!!!
Rachel says
We don’t have space for a special office/craftroom, and paperwork and craftiness take over our living/dining space. My husband paints miniature war-game models and I sew and our stuff is getting a little out of hand right now. I got some cute organising supplies fr Christmas, I just need to sort out the combo craft/computer area and use them. Paperwork will have to wait until another time, it’s too overwhelming with everything else a mess right now 🙁
Katherine says
How about my whole house? Does that count? We’re in the (long) process of uncluttering everything, but I’d like to start by getting my dining room table back to being cleared off.
Sue says
I need to organize or purge everyroom in my house. I am living in chaos!!!! I think I will start with the home office and paperwork.

Since we’ll probably be moving soon, I need to go through our storage room and purge everything that hasn’t been unpacked from the last move! Love the mugs btw.
Jan says
My office needs the most organization in my house. I have somehow created several piles and now do not have the use of my project table (to do my “all-things-crafty” stuff). *sigh* I also have a small playroom for my son in my office. The two are just not mixing well. I’d love to find a way to may this space cohesive.
TIna Reeves says
I’m going to take charge of my spice drawer and pantry this month!

Sarah says
I’m working on my kitchen drawers (hopefully to expand to include cabinets and/or pantry too). I just got a couple sets of drawerdecors from a certain opensky store 🙂
Tamikko says
wow! First off, I didn’t know you were in Canada. I’m in BC! Did you know that Zellers has been bought by Target? I don’t know if you have one near enough to go to but if so :). I can’t wait for Target, for I, too, have heard many great things about their organizing containers and $ bin items that can be made into other things. Ours is slated to be done by Fall, I believe. There has been some sales to get it going but there hasn’t been any construction yet.
I am actually right in the middle of organizing everything. We’ve put in new floors and most of our stuff is in the garage. The upstairs has overspill from the downstairs so not one area is clean, clear and organized. It is horrible! I know you should concentrate on one area at a time so I’m not really getting much done quickly. I do plan on getting the area with computer, papers like bills and school, calendar and everyday bits like cooking lists organized first. I have some great ideas and a few things already but can’t execute it until the floors are done and the computer desk and everything that goes with it can go back to where it belongs. Which is why I’m working on other areas (or them all) at once because there’s always something stopping me from finishing one area or another. Love the smiley cup!
Christina says
My whole house needs some help. The livingroom/workspace probably needs the most help at the moment, next is the kids room.
Vickie says
My #1 spot to organize this month is the computer room/office- the place that continually defeats me.

I need to organize my bonus room. It has all the random toys and clothes we’re done with that are ready for consignment, plus just other things end up there. I would LOVE to win both! Thanks for the giveaway!
Felecia says
My exercise/storage room. We remodeled an upstairs bedroom and used the exercise room to store the things from that room. Now that we’re done, we seem to have a lot of stuff that didn’t make it back into the bedroom. Add to that, seven Christmas storage boxes and two Christmas trees (one for the den and one for the living room)waiting to be put away and…well…you get the picture!
April says
I’m organizing our master bedroom and the two closets off our master bathroom. Most of the house has been gone through, but I know these rooms have been collecting garbage. If I haven’t used it and it has no senitmental value, why are we still holding onto it? So, this is the last major area of my house that needs help. I have dressers to go through and need to make better use of the storage we already have. I love organizing articles, shows, and magazines too. Who doesn’t love new ideas?
Trisha says
I’m currently working through my kitchen and master bedroom, but I want to hit my office soon. My home is so very far from organizational bliss. Sigh.
Teresa says
Living room. Since you are making me choose. There are 5 people and a dog in a house that is entirely too small for such a brood. My 5 year old (almost 6) has Autism and we really need to get a handle on everyroom so that we can minimize the stress it causes to him AND ME!

Meggan says
I need to organize the play room, and the guest bedroom, since it gets alot of stuff dumped into it because we only have visitors a few times a year. I would like it to me a calming comfy space.
Kristen says
I have once again resolved to get organized. Hopefully 2012 is my year. There’s not a place in my home that doesn’t need it, but right now the focus is on the paper clutter/ office area.
Veronica says
Showing our home for sale has required that I clear away the clutter everywhere, but I’ve got one big room that is the repository of everything I’ve cleared and need to go through before moving! UGH. Not to mention that I have my recently passed away mother’s, aunt’s, and grandmother’s “treasures” that I have to sort through as well. It is a daunting task, and I can use all the help I can get! Thanks for your giveaways!
Janel says
My basement is a mess. My whole family is working at cleaning it up, but I swear the things are multiply at night! 🙂
Ashly says
I have quite the project ahead of me. Our family of 3 inhabits a meager 625 square feet so sPace is of the essence. We have a room that was previously being used as food/small appliance/winter coat storage. We’ve decided to convert it to a walk in closet/craft room to free up some floor space in our bedroom. So in short my project isto take this completely blank slate and make a fab and functional space… Then figure out what I’m goin to do with all my pantry stuff but I’m saving that to worry about next month lol
Rachel J says
The office- it is the only unused bedroom in our 1000 sq ft house. It houses our financial records, my clothes in the closet, and the space I use as a classroom/study for graduate school.
Christie says
my ‘one room’ to organize is every room that has my daughter’s toys: living room, dining room and her bedroom. I’m planning on selling the toys she no longer plays with to reduce the visual clutter I see when I look anywhere in my home. I’d love a copy of Clutter Rehab; that’s what I’m looking forward to winning the most!

My craft room is my top priority right now! As an independent demonstrator for a paper crafting company I am constantly getting ready for classes, shows etc. And it always seems to look like a tornado blew through it!
Marilyn says
I always get caught up in the “Get Organized” craze at the start of a new year. I have all ready hit the basement with the purchase of 2 additional shelving units. Now I am working on our file cabinet- redoing the labels on all of the file folders and making new headers that are more easily seen.
I have also added a few hooks here and there- inside cabinets, behind doors, etc.
I would love to win these- thanks for the giveaway!

Lisa Henderson says
My kitchen. Looks ok on the surface–just don’t open the cupboards!
Heidi Kemp says
my TV room! Needs pruning and a mass organization.
Sara D says
I am wanting to reorganize my craft room. It is actually a combo room with my kids craft stuff and my stuff (scrapbooking, cardmaking, computer, tv, and sewing). It’s not a huge room either. But I am just not liking how it is put together right now. I can tell it’s not working b/c my desk top is always messy. 🙁
Jennifer Keesler says
The area I most want to organize this month is our old office/closet!!!! Organize and PURGE is more like the plan!!!
Denise T says
My bedroom! It has become a catchall for everything that has no other home.
Camille says
Working on the basement. Recently got married and tons of entertaining gifts. Some we’ll use often but other big items need a home in between parties! Hoping this will also give me the chance to go through some stuff so when we move in the next few months It won’t be as hectic!

My #1 spot (i.e. desperate spot) is my “home office”. Especially because it’s not a whole room but just a “spot”, when it’s awful, the whole living room is awful. Thanks for all the inspiration!
Havilah says
I’m new to your blog and I LOVE it! It’s just what I need. We’re going to be moving next week so this is going to be a great opportunity to organize EVERYTHING. My main goal this month, though is the Kitchen and the chore chart for the kids.
Sarah says
My numero uno is DEFINITELY my sewing and craft room. I get inspired to organize it when I think about how much more productive I could be in there if it wasn’t such a mess, but it’s tough to even get started on it!
TwoDiffSocks says
We moved a month ago so i still have plenty of boxes to go thru….so thats my focus: to go thru a box a day & organize/dejunk with what’s in that box. Not as simple as stated since not all our furniture came thru in the move and i’m only working part-time but i do have hope it will get done before the end of 2011
🙂
sharon says
I desperately need to do both my room and my kid’s room. This month will be my room. I need to do some major decluttering.
Mindy says
I’m working on reorganizing my craft room now. Once that gets done, I need to move onto the basement (which is just a plain old basement with piles of boxes). Sigh.
Karen says
My laundry/storage room!
Erinna says
Our litter room needs organized. Just the name sounds awful and disorganized, right? Well we have multiple cats and have a room devoted to their litter boxes and such… which we keep clean but the room also has become a catch-all for everything. Uggghhh.
Bev says
I guess it’s time to tackly my daughter’s bedroom. She moved out to an apartment after college (3 years ago), and her room still looks like it did the week she moved out! Sad, I know. Guess it’s time to change it into a real guest room instead of using it for storage.

My office area and my basement are screaming for help so that’s what I’ll be tackling!
Rachel says
Our master bedroom and closet. My husband has been ill and more recently the medical supplies have taken over the room, leaving it feeling more like a prison rather than an oasis. I’m reclaiming this room before Spring!
Terrie Andrews says
So many places! Where to began. Right now I am working on all my holiday stuff in our extra bedroom closet. I didn’t take a picture first but wish I had.
Tamora says
The first place I’m working on this year is the living room. Redoing the kids’ desk area and still need to put the Christmas stuff away!!
Terrie Andrews says
So many places! Where to began.
Virginia Akin says
Oh my basement! We have made some progress on it ~ which is a good thing since we are starting a Bible study down there in two weeks! ~ but it still needs work to become both Bible study and craft area I really need it to be! Then there is the upstairs office…..
Teri says
I am doing my garage… it is a disaster.
Amanda Andrus says
The kitchen! I need to to clean out and organize all of my cupboards. I am afraid of what I am going to find in the back of some of them.
Michelle @ Getting Through the Day says
Oh, how I wish I could have those magazines! I tackled my bedroom last week, but I have one particular space that has everything that doesn’t have a place crammed into it. No one besides me knows that that space is crammed with junk. Yet, it really REALLY bothers me. My goal this month is to tackle that small space and get it organized!
Julie says
Working on my basement storage whenever I can. It’s mostly toys for rotation.
Emily @ Random Recycling says
I need to reorganize our “recycling closet”. It’s a catch all for recycling bins, wine, vases, drinks, etc. It needs some TLC.
Christina says
The master bedroom is my major project at the moment. We bought our house four years ago this Spring and we still have unpacked boxes taking up room in our bedroom. I can barely walk in to our walk in closet which was one of the selling features of the house!! I’m determined to reclaim the space so I can have a room to get away and relax.
Allison S. says
I want to organize our guest room closet. I’m turning the whole room into a craft-zone for me. I plan on storing all of the craft supplies in the closet. First I have to get all of the random, unused boxes of this & that out.
Jeannine B. says
I am currently working on a complete overhaul of the storage and organization in my laundry room. As always, this seems to be spilling over into other rooms of the house as I rethink what to continue to store in the laundry room, and what things to move to other places in my home that make more sense! I love the inspiration “eye candy” in all of the storage/organizing magazines and books! Thanks for a fun giveaway!
Judy says
I would like to tackel the basement organization again. Every time I go down there it seems there is more to organize, more to trash and more to donate.
Laurie says
My kids bathroom. They use mine right now because their tub is filled with bagged stuffed animals and the floor is filled with paper sacks full of papers. 🙁
Rachel says
I desperately need storage solutions for my tiny, windowless craft room – I would love ideas to work through the chaos!
Pam says
I’ve been working through my decorating closet as I put away Christmas things and get out the snowman decorations (to keep things looking cheerful after we put away Christmas). I’m blessed with a l-o-n-n-n-g closet under the eaves – about 8 ft by 24 ft – that holds decorating items for different seasons, framed pix I’m not using, candles, and even suitcases and our laundry hamper baskets (it opens off our clothes closet, so it’s a handy place to toss dirty clothes).
Well – the problem with this lovely closet is that it’s just too tempting to do an open-and-shove when I want to get something out of sight quickly. It was time to wade in and put things away.
So the last couple of weeks, I’ve been purging and donating – like a huge bag of unused silk flowers and strings of Christmas lights lurking in the bottom of the box.
I have so much more room now – much easier to put things away! My husband says (when I stagger home with MORE plastic bins), “If our house ever catches fire, it won’t burn, it will melt.”
Ginny says
Most areas of my home need organization help, but because it’s a busy public space, I’d have to say my kitchen is #1. I recently bought Pyrex storage set, and most of the pieces are still languishing in the box because I don’t know where to put them! I definitely need help!
Jaime O says
My whole house is a disaster…we were already bursting at the seams before Christmas came along, now it is just ridiculous. My plan is to tackle my basement/craft room first, I just need to find some time!
Jamey says
I am going through the bathroom cabinets this month – starting small so that I can see some results before I move on to the Master Bedroom and Closet!
sherri says
My craft room was relocated from the main floor to guest bedroom; by relocated I mean my husband moved everything down, but nothing was “put away.” So….my job is to organize my new craft room so that I can start creating some of the fabulousness I’m seeing on pinterest!

Emily @ Make It Happen Mama says
Oooh, my bedroom! I’m staying with my parents in Oregon during the week, but live with my husband and son in Washington on the weekends, so it’s definitely a challenge to keep my “weekday” bedroom clean & organized – yikes!
Sheila says
I would like to bring back order in my kitchen, particularly the counters and pantry. Since I’ve been spending more time in it than ever before, I think it’s just good sense to make it less chaotic and more organized so I can enjoy learning how to cook for my family.
Nancy says
My garage would be the one room I would like to tacvkle next.
Mormelar says
My next big goal is to conquere my wardrobe!
Jenni says
We desperately need to organize the guest bedroom… which has become a harbor for all of our ‘oh I’ll find a place for this later’ junk. It’s so painful to look at that we keep the door closed.
Sonda in OR says
My garage is my number one area!
Laura says
We have a room in our house designated as as office. The only problem is that it has a walk-in closet full of shelves! That means it becomes the dumping spot for everything on the first floor that is absolutely essential but has no other home and for things that are in transition. My goal this year is to clear it out and set up defined spaces within that closet for items.
Stacey says
My home office, there is not one surface not covered by something! help……
Patti says
Oh how I am loving your blog. I think I should call in sick to work so I can stay home and read it from beginning to end. I just bought a big new beautiful house. I have a big beautiful master bedroom closet. The space is so big I almost don’t know how to organize it. So yes, I’d like it to be pretty and tidy and organized. Therefore I pick my master bedroom closet as my first 2012 organizing project.
Now, back to reading.
Anna says
My spot to organize this month is my home office. It is always take me too much time to make it clean, so I need a new system-:)

Closets. My husband calls me a closet hoarder. The visible stuff is good, but behind the doors…{shiver}
Heather says
We’re focusing on organizing our home office. We just recently cleaned out our old house in anticipation of selling it, however, before we settle too deeply in our new house, we’d like to put some thought into HOW we work before we start shoving folders and books in places just because there’s space available.
Firesparx says
I have a confession…I went into Target last night and did not show the restraint that Jen did…I came home with a red honeycomb cutout basket…but my remotes have never looked so pretty (and corralled!)
The Mud Room is KILLING me. It drives me nuts. I’d rather it be full of mud than the junk that collects there. It’s next on the To Organize list!
Beth S says
For me it’s my craftroom. It needs a complete reorganization. Everything out of the room, rug removed, new flooring, new shelving, cabinets. A complete gut and redo. Maybe then I can find what I’m looking for. I did a redo in there 15 yrs ago but with everything I have now it’s just not working anymore. I’m also doing a kitchen reno in the next couple of weeks so moving things around in there as well. Doing alot of purging as well.
Kait says
Our bedroom – it gets messy way too easily, and I think it’s because we haven’t found an organization system that works for us in there.
Katie G says
My daughter’s room. It’s a mess!
Brandy says
Our family room/playroom. Our daughter’s toys are EVERYWHERE!
Renee Bosley says
Oh my where to start! Our basement flooded. We are putting in new tile instead of carpet and painting, so I will have to reorganize everything down there. My coat closet is a disaster, I want to get that done before the end of the month and then my kitchen cabinets so that I can inventory and go on a big grocery trip to stock up.
Melanie says
My son’s bedroom closet. Everything is crammed in there and it is hard to find anything.
TJP1071 says
I have started on our basement T.V. room. Took lots of things to the trash today…….Had my guy build bookshelves over the Christmas break with wasted space. Trying to find a good way to store the kids toys and books, and DVD’s and every other thing that makes the bedrooms look messy, downstairs on these shelves and still have it look nice. A work in progress. This weekend i hope to have it done! YEAH! The kids can finally have people over in the basement again!
Samantha says
I’m working in our playroom!!!!
More Than A Mom says
Do I have to pick just one? I have a plan room by room to declutter and deep clean. If I have to pick one spot for the month, though, it would have to be the photos and keepsakes.
So far I have organized the kids art, birthday cards, etc. by year and stored them in freezer bags and in a bin.
Last night I purchased picture frames and am putting the family photos into frames with the plan to hang them (the where is taking some consideration).
I also purchased some blank art books and some nice scrapbook paper that I will make each child a keepsakes book of their birthday cards, art, etc. This way they will be able to look through it whenever they want and it will be a special memory book kept in their rooms instead of a tote in the corner of the basement.
Don’t even get me started on the digital photos to sort and print (in bound books, of course by year!).
Terri says
The next organizing project I will tackle is the home office. I shall conquer!!!
Tyna Begley says
I have two primary projects for this month: tame the clutter in the junk drawers in the kitchen, and organizing our homeschool bookshelf by subject matter. Fun stuff!
Lisa says
My drawers and closets.
MelanieL says
My roll-top desk! It’s in our bedroom, we don’t use it as a desk to sit at. It’s handles our “office” needs but not very effectively. It needs help! I plan to work on it soo as we just re-did our bedroom floor and that is the only eye-sore in the room now!
Andrea Southworth says
I have to get a handle on our 14 month old’s clothes. She has so many hand me down waiting to grow into plus stuff she is growing out of. I have to find a better way to store and organize everything!
Diana B says
I need to organize my kids’ rooms. We did a little bit before Christmas, but now it’s time to get serious. Once everything has a place, I plan to take pictures and “label” the shelves so they can pick everything up themselves. Might be a lofty idea, but I think they’re still young enough to find it fun!
Joemom says
You know it’s time to organize the spice cupboard in the kitchen when 3 containers fall out everytime you try to just find something.
Melissa says
I wish I had even a clue how to organize the kid’s rooms so it didn’t always seem like partially organized clutter. But I think my real goal this month is to organize the basement junk room (we don’t need all these computer cables do we?) and wait until my new master bath is completed and then add some organizational tools to it as well. I might grab one of these organizational magazines myself the next time I spot one.
Jamie says
My sister and I are reorganizing my bedroom so it will become my bedroom, office and craft room. The old office/craft room is becoming her daughter’s bedroom.
I also love the smiley face mug – glad to know there is another smiley face lover out there – my mom always would put a smiley face on every note she wrote to us while we growing up . good memories:)
Wanda says
My mud room is in bad shape! Hockey equipment, bird food, washer /dryer /sink and all our outdoor clothes! As the kids get bigger, their boot /shoes /coats don’t fit in the spots that used to work so I need to completely purge and re-do! Looking forward to it, with inspiration from your wonderful (Canadian!) blog, so thanks so much for that.
Leslie O says
The #1 spot in my house would for surely be the office. Its a hole that every extra piece of paper & random item seems to find. It my January resolution since i’m planning on only 1 month for this project!
ChristineK says
My area to organize is my kitchen desk. I need to find a way to manage all of the papers that land on it’s flat surface.
Michelle says
I really want to do my corner kitchen cabinets…they are piled but with junk and I think if I get them organized my counter will look better. Then it is on to a huge china cabinet in the dining room.
Lisa says
I really want to tackle that master bedroom closet before it tackles me!
christina says
The command center on my desk in the kitchen really needs to be organized. I am hoping to get to it very soon!
Barbara says
I want to organize my bathroom – I have one excessively narrow cabinet and one massive cavern of a cabinet! So far, nothing has worked – no matter how I fold the towels – they are either too far back in the cabinet to reach or falling on the floor!! Thanks!
Nicole Williams says
My craft supply/storage room! WHAT a disaster!
Sandy says
Oh, how to choose… One on-going problem area is the clutter that accumulates on one end of the kitchen counter. The other more serious area is my combo home office/craft room. I set up folding tables to work on temporarily and they never get taken down… probably because I can’t find them under all the clutter. LOL. I seriously need help.
Lisa says
I want to organize my master bedroom and more in my kitchen! But shame on you for throwing organizing “porn” at helpless homemakers! lol….
Target is good but a lot of it is seriously overpriced IMHO…..
Hazel says
My craft/scrapbook room! It is soooo unorganized!
Sabrina Jackson @ Customized Creations says
My whole house needs an organizing makeover but this month I want to really focus on my craft room! We moved to this house in November and with the holidays we have been super busy. Things are starting to slow down and I was given giftcards for my birthday to build my craft desk, so in the next few weeks, my husband will build that while I organize the room!
Lauren says
Top priority for me is getting my spare bedrooms organized, one is semi-organized but needs some TLC design-wise (that’s easier)…the other though is technically my home-office…since I work from home 4 days a week it’s key that I get that whipped into shape ASAP!
Amanda says
My 4th Bedroom. Right now it is a catch ALL, for lots of things that don’t have a home and for all my husband’s hunting paraphenalia. I have started (VERY minimally) to chip away at it to turn it into a playroom and move my husband’s hunting stuff to his mancave but it is definately sloooow going!
ter@waaoms says
I need to organize my basement which is becoming my craft studio. I had some before photos, just have to find them!! LOL.
Heather says
My step son’s bedroom and playroom are a disaster after Christmas. We got him to select toys to be donated, but now we need to figure out the best way to organize what we’re keeping!
Vanessa says
I need to organize my giant stacks of papers and old magazines. Yikes!!
Elizabeth P. says
I have a closet where everything without a home ends up. It’s a mess! I’d love to get it organized so we can actually use the space.
Sallie E. says
I’m working on my home office. Years of stacked papers have to be sorted and shredded or recycled. Ugh.
Valerie says
Clothing, clothing and more clothing!
Christina says
My guest bedroom is terrible, namely the closet. We are expecting our first baby and need to turn it into a nursery. I can’t even begin thinking where to put all the stuff in that closet. Our house is teeny and we have a lack of closets. I need to purge big time!
Misty D says
I would have to say organizing the entryway to our home is on the top of my list. This is where all the backpacks, shoes, and mail seems to PILE up. Calgon take me away – I need some fresh eyes to options that would transform this area from eye sore to appealing!
hsmominmo says
Hi, Laura! Your enthusiasm is contagious – thank you!
I’m working on some kitchen spaces this week. In particular, silverware drawer, under the sink cabinet, junk drawer, and sippy-cup/baby items drawer.
I’m narrowing down the space we’ll attack during next month’s challenge. I can hardly wait!
Barbara G says
My paperwork filing system has been neglected for waaay too long. I’m committed to cleaning up the piles on my desk this month.

I’m currently working on organizing my kitchen – it desperately needs it!
Kristin Peterson says
Oooh I would love to win these, I need some new ideas! My basement is currently my worst area – it’s not fully finished so it has become a dumping ground.
SalBug says
Our office is next (and last) on my list. I have organized every single other spot in our house in the last 4 weeks. It feels so good. But the office is the biggest challenge since it’s really my husband’s domain, so I don’t get to make the decisions alone. Darn it!
Shanna Reynolds says
My kitchen pantry. Who knows what we have on the shelves anymore? I’m sure we’re spending extra money on all the double items that have accumulated.
Jessica says
Oh boy, my home office needs help. I make piles and then the piles slide… It’s bad in there. 🙂
Chic Mummy says
definitely my “craft room/study” in quotes, since it is, at the moment, our junk collection room! Everything that doesn’t have a home somewhere else has ended up in there.
Sarah says
My nickname in middle school was “neat freak.” But now that I have a 5-month-old daughter, organizing has gone to the way side. I need to get her room organized. My sister-in-law has a 2 1/2 year old and she keeps giving me her old clothes (which I’m happy for!), but being that my baby is just starting to wear the 3-6 month clothes that she gave me, and I keep getting new clothes that are now up to 2T, I need to get them organized, or I’m sure she’ll end up not wearing 1/2 of them, because I don’t know I have them!
Annette says
My office! It is a total wreck!
Lianne says
My closet! it’s a disaster! :))
Pam says
I’ll be working in my craft space – cleaning out and organizing. 🙂
Diann says
My daughter’s bedroom is in desperate need of organizing!
Heather says
I’m planning to attack my pantry and kitchen drawers.
Alicia says
My small bedroom is my storage room too. Ugh.
Dynamics says
The thorn in my side is my office. I always leave it for last because it will be such a huge project. I have organized other parts of my house more than once. This year is the year I will start and finish my office. One shelve at a time. I bought a six foot table to sort things. This way I can do a five minute sort or an all day sort. I am thankful to you. I am getting better at removing things that I may need in the future. May and Remove!!! Together they will make my office closets organized. Out with the old. Viet Nam Vets will love me when I give them a call to come pick up my good stuff that should not continue to reside on my shelves.
Anne says
My #1 room to organize this month is not technically a room…it’s the entryway! Piles of stuff land there and stay forever!
Laurie says
I just closed up shop to my forever-untidy card making area. Loaded up a box of stamps & supplies to be given away. Loaded up stamps to be kept but stored away. {sigh}
Sue says
Definitely would be my garage. Its a MESS! I try to organize it by little bits, but by the time I finish all of it, there are piles of stuff back where I started. Its killing me! And with a 2 YO with stuff and more stuff, I really need to figure out what to do with it all!
Trinity says
My kitchen cabinets
Kristen says
My den/home office is my first organizing project but my closet is a close second.
Suzi says
My bedroom. Particularly my desk and closet. Also this is where I store gifts I have made or bought for future recipients and have a loveseat for doing daily devotions when the guest room is occupied (and it is frequently!)
Mary Claire says
Oh My, where to begin. I moved from a one story to a two story home last year when I was almost 8 months pregnant. My second daughter was born in late August. Between the move, pregnany and caring for an infant and a preschooler, I’m a disorganized mess. This is weird for me, people always think i’m so organized. My systems I had befiore, don’t seem to work in this new house and my time for developing a new system is limited. If I had to focus on just one area, though, I want to finally tame the paper piles (mail) for good. This is the one thing I never got down, even in our old home.
DianaP says
I am really getting hooked on this “junkie” emails…..really. New Year, new way of living; and I have come to learn that by organization I show my family love and support. I just have no patience for the livingroom – everyone gathers and hubby likes techy stuff….kids keep toys and I just cannot focus enough to decorate………but (with this site) I will ! !
lorene holbrook says
oh my goodness! last year we remodeled so that MIL could move in with us. my guest bedroom became a dumping ground. that’s what I want to tackle this month. we have had to downsize and move things around. it is amazing all the stuff we both had. it’s been a slow process, still working and deciding where things go! love your website, and it sure helps!!!!
Lorene
Michelle says
My goal this month is to get our back/storage room turned into a craft/sewing room for me and still have room for a bed for visitors. I LOVE everything organization but I just can’t seem to “put the knowledge into reality” LOL It is a total “work in progress”
Louise says
I have set myself the target of organising my office in the next 4 months. It’s the biggest room in my house and will take alot of time!!!
I wish we had magazines like that in the uk.
Fiddledeedee says
My kitchen pantry, otherwise known as the black hole. Or my laundry room, otherwise known as the black hole. There are a lot of black holes around here. 🙂
Stella Jaymes says
I cleaned and organized and purge every room except my bedroom and closet the coat closet and our garage. For some reason these are the most scary. But my goal is going to be my bedroom. Thank u for all your great ideals and motivation
Kristy says
My daughters and all their stuff! It seems like they have mountain and mountains of clothes…but then if we’re running late for…let’s just say Church! — then we can’t find anything! I know that I need to be consistent and insist that they put up their own clothes immediately after washing. So I have LOTS of need in the organizing department!
Michelle S. says
The basement. It seems to be the place where clutter hides!
Jess says
Just one room? I really want to say my whole house because we just moved at the end of November & I’m all about making our new home much more organized than our old one so this is tough. I would probably have to say the living room though since that will be the room we’ll be spending most of our time in.
TracyDK says
This month’s focus is on two places. First was my son’s room. We were plagued all December with some illness, so weeding his toys and such didn’t happen. So I REALLY have to do this month. So my Mom took him for the day so I could sit in his floor and go through every single thing in there. (took ALL day!) But I’m now finished and his room is looking MUCH better. (no pics though, dang!) The other major place to focus on is my desk. It’s a SUPER hot mess right now. UGH! So that’s the rest of my month (will probably take it too! again, UGH!) I’ll be sure to get before pics of this though!
stephanie says
My whole house is in desperate need of being organized. But, next up on my list is either the garage or the kitchen. It’s really cold here this time of year, though, so the garage might have to wait until spring!
KyleeJ says
My kitchen is the room that I’m tackling first.
Amber says
My #1 spot is my office it hasn’ been organized since we moved in 2.5 years ago!!! Yikes
Karen says
Downstairs rec room. We want to make it into a playroom/craft room but first I need to go through all the stuff I dump there. It is my go to “stash and dash” area and it needs serious attention. Thanks for the motivation. The rec room is an out of sight out of mind area because it is easy to avoid so it is nice to have a challenge to get it done!
Michele says
I am going to tackle my kids bedrooms. They are so unorganized!!! I also wanted to say that I had no idea there were
organization mags out there. I still have a lot to learn.lololoo
Rachel says
I was motivated by the new year and so far I have organized my son’s bedroom and next I’m set to tackle my home office…this is a MUST do! I can’t put it off any longer!
Shaunna says
We are moving so we have a lot to do
Di says
Oh I so need ideas from this magazine, and your book!
This month I am working on our bedroom closet. Too much STUFF and disorganized space. I am considering hanging a 2nd rail. As a personal trainer I use a LOT of fitness clothing and right now (hangs head in shame) it’s in piles on my closet floor… takes me extra time in the morning to sort through the pile for clothing and it’s becoming a HUGE problem. I need to get this monster under control!
Dacia says
After all the Christmas decorations are down and the tree is out, my #1 spot to organize this month was my living room. Donated old magazines, sold a couple of blankets, and took some knick knacks to Good Will. Now moving on to the master bath.
Dena says
My bedroom is where everything goes. I have too many books, interests, and piles! I can get rid of the stuff that just gets added to the piles, like newspapers, old notes & reminders. But I have a hard time getting rid of articles or info that are important to me, although if I file it, I totally forget it’s there. Sometimes after awhile things can lose their importance, but when I am trying to de-clutter I can only go so far! I get things looking better but never really make it to the organized side. Any ideas?
Amanda says
I don’t know where to start the list is so long, but probably my office/desk area. Things always get laid there & not put away.
Crystal R says
My whole house really needs organizing, but this week I’m starting with the kitchen.
Andrea Scoville says
Ooooooh – I would LOOOOVE to get my hands on those pretties!!! Thanks SO much for the constant inspiration and for the fantastic offer. My goal for January is the mail spot(s) – for me AND my husband. Please wish me luck!

Hoping to get through the laundry room this month.
Julie H says
I want to tackle the linen closet in my bathroom. It is 7 shelves of CHAOS!
Julie says
Most pressing, my bedroom! We are expecting our second child in March. His bedroom is currently the computer room, so I’ve started to remove stuff from the computer room and “stored it” (more like dumped it) in our bedroom. Well, I haven’t had time to organize all this stuff, and I need to do so soon because the computer (and exercise bike) (oh and all our board games) need to move to our room, somehow so that we can paint his room!
Dana says
I am tying to organize my linen closet, which is also my make up and beauty closet. It is horrendous and I can never find anything. I need to throw away a lot of old and expired products and find a way to organize things more efficiently.
Tracy says
I love getting your info via e-mail! It’s so much fun to open it up and get energized from your enthusiasm. The room I’m working on right now is the kitchen. It’s hard to find things because there is so much stuff crammed into the cabinets. We have limited cabinet space and that doesn’t help. But trying to keep things off the counters is my most recent challenge. But I’m also thinking of trying bins or “drawers” to fit in the bottom cabinets to organize our plastic containers. I can hardly wait to see how it looks or how easy it’s going to be to put things away!
Leslie W says
My living/family room is a mess. I have my sewing stuff set up in there and my daughter’s toys are everywhere! We have a pretty small house so any clever storage ideas would go a long way in helping us organize while keeping the living/family room still look stylish and not a toy store!
Erica says
My son’s room!!! he has so many video games (all different sizes) hats and shoes everywhere its just a nightmare that i can’t get rid of!!!!
Jessica says
My daughter’s bedroom is next on the agenda. Her second birthday will be in March, so I need to have an “out with the old to make room for the new” plan in her room. Thanks for a giveaway!

Our master bedroom is the last drop off when something doesn’t have a home. I just never can get that room together. Any helpful hints would be great!!
Sarah says
My house is pretty good – just need to get busy at organizing those papers. What I want to get done this year is my old bedroom at my parent’s place. Since moving out, it’s become the store-extra-stuff-that-doesn’t-have-a-home-plus-a-bed-for-Sarah-and-room-for-the-heirloom-piano room. My plan is to clear out EVERYTHING that isn’t a bed or a bookcase, and pull all the books from random corners of the house into that one room. What I wouldn’t have given to have a library there when I was actually living in it! 😀 My biggest struggle is ‘re-educating’ my mom that just because we have room to store something, doesn’t mean we have to keep it, and how to create ‘zones’ for things. 😉
Kristina G. says
My unfinished basement. The place where items with no home end up!

We moved 1 month ago into a rental home with little storage space. So, I’m learning how to be strategic in organizing every single room. The room that needs the most attention is basement/laundry room!

My # 1 spot to clean is our “Jeep” room. The Jeep room is my husbands man cave… well, it USED to be his man cave. I have turned it into a junk haven! We have no basement or attic or closets so I have filled up his room with all the stuff I “might” need. Hopefully I can get this done and part with the clutter that I think I need!
Kyleigh says
We moved into our house last March and our garage IMMEDIATELY became “The Clutter Catcher”. I walk through it every day and every day i wince and try to avert my eyes. Im coming for you, garage!

I really need to organize my craft closet this month!
Holly says
My “nook” off the master bedroom is supposed to be “my space” with a desk and storage for crafting. Instead it is a junk and bag depository. A safe spot behind a baby gate for quick stashing and stacking of anything and everything that does not have another spot to go. Piles of randomness blanket the floor. A dead plant actually sits atop a bookcase in the corner. Really! There is absolutely no crafting going on there. Just life-sucking clutter, cluttering away.
Diana says
My spare bedroom needs rehab in the worst way! We call it the “no-no” room because until it’s organized and things in their places, our little chihuahua is not allowed access to that room. I love organizing and do it extremely well at my office yet I feel overwhelmed with some areas here at home. So glad I found this site after Christmas!
Kathy says
I am in the process of re-making and organizing my formal living and dining room into a family friendly study and quiet area. Unfortunately since we never used this space except on Christmas mornings,it also became a dumping – I mean storage area. Ugh. I have bins of toys, too many books and projects to clear out.

Our extra bedroom serves as our catch all. It needs to be organized better for computer and printer.
The room is not being utilized the best that it could be. There is alot of stuff on the floor and my husband doesn’t use his desk. It just collects piles. I want a more efficient room with less clutter and nothing on the floor. Where to begin?

I also love Storage Magazine. I have alot of the past copies. I go through them over and over again all the time. Of course like everyone else I am inspired by the New Year to bring about a fresh start in my life. I used to be very organized but as I got older I am not sure what has happened. But I am bound and determined that this year is going to be different than other years in the recent past. I have been inspired this month to start in the most important room in the house. The kitchen. This room is the heart of the home and when it is not functional my family does not function properly. So to bring more peace in our lives by the end of the month my intention is to have order and organization so that our lives work better. Thank you for your wonderful information that is so motivating.

I am in DESPERATE need of decluttering and organizing the area of my house that all the “stuff” goes that doesn’t have a permanent home. I need to find spaces for lots of assorted items from furniture to photos, to children’s toys, to antiques that need to be appraised and sold, to graduate school papers, to arts and crafts supplies. With two young children under the age of 3, all it takes is time, that is very precious and scarce these days. I am committing to having a babysitter come while I make sense of this space, so I am not rushed through it and can make sure it’s done well, the first time. 🙂

My home office and my attic closet! My office is a dual space for my office and the laundry. Unfortunately, the kids tend to dump their stuff too.
Paula says
After spending 12 years in the military, I developed a taste for extreme organization. So much so, that to not be organized and clutter-free really brings me down. Unfortunately, I experienced a traumatic event 17 years ago that I have not been able to shake, and I have somehow become a person who is drowning in both physical, bodily clutter (ie. fat), as well as household clutter. There is no ONE room to plane to organize because all but one room in the house desperately need it. I guess I choose the kitchen, especially the counter (that I cannot currently see). Help!
Pam says
My laundry room is a black hole for clutter ! I could really use help making it work for my family, instead of being just a dumping ground for anything and everything that needs a place to go !

I decided to take on my own 52-week organizing challenge this year and started out with a project a week. But my focus this month – other than getting my own study organized – are my sons’ closets. This past week was the older son”s turn – I removed all the clothing and we went through it – what fits, what he will or won’t wear (even if it does fit), and what is too small and might be passed down to his younger brother. I also removed about 10 years of Halloween costumes that he had felt a need to hang on to (despite the fact that he would NEVER fit into that very cute fuzzy black cat costume that fit when he was four). We still have shoes and non-clothes items to do.
This week is the younger son’s closet – this one is more challenging but we have a 3-day weekend and so should make great inroads…

My number one spot is going to be…my bedside table. Which, right now, is actually a full sized table which I have been piling stuff on. Started to clean it off already, but now need places to find where they actually go. And then that table goes out in the garage (only reason it was there was that last April I was really sick and we have not bedside tables so my husband brought that in for me to put my medicine and drinks on. Sweet…but it quickly became a junk stop.

I am going to organize my linen closet in the bathroom. It needs help! Also need to pick up things off floor in daughter’s room, she’s not here right now, she’s house sitting for months. So that’s the best time to do it and it’s never going to be that way again. There’s way too much trash in there and she knows better! She’s my favorite messy, I guess! That may be next month though, will see! Thanks for the give away!
