So yesterday I talked a little bit about my recent trip to Ikea and shared some ideas for garage storage. Today’s pictures are of some other finds at Ikea that I thought would be fun to highlight today. Come take a tour with me!
First of all you know I’m a huge fan of cubbies. Love the whole Expedit line and the brown baskets that go inside. This one below is actually two four cubes put together ($39.99 each). I love that they’ve hung them on the wall…I never would have thought of that.
Here’s an Expedit bookcase for $79.99 that takes advantage of vertical space but I’m sure it could go either way…I love anything with versatility! Terrific that you can now get door and drawer inserts for them as well.
And look at these other Expedit shelf inserts to further help maximize your cubby space. What a great idea for shoes! So awesome!!
Then in the next section of Ikea I stumbled across these cubbies hanging on the wall…I’d love these in my kid’s rooms. Sorry can’t remember the cost on them though.
Now if I had a choice between shelves or cubbies, I think I’d always go for the cubbies as I just like the way the space is divided up and provides boundaries. However I do like how the baskets are all lined up on the bottom of this bookcase to provide some variety. That would be a great tuck away spot for kid’s toys in a living room for example.
Not bad for $99.00 a bookcase. The media tower is $49.99:
If you need to create an office space in tight quarters, I think this super narrow desk would be helpful for that. Plenty of room for two work stations even. Maybe you don’t have a home office but would like one. Many of you have told me that your dining room table acts as more of an office than a place to eat. This desk is so narrow maybe you could tuck it up alongside one of your dining room walls to use as office/paper storage/laptop center. Just pull your dining room chairs over when needed. Just an idea…these are the things that go through my head as I’m walking through the store. Now I’m walking through again and taking you along with me 🙂 It’s called the Besta Burs Desk and it’s $299.99 (here in Canada anyway).
Or just even a floating shelf at the right height would work too for a whole lot less. This shelf is only $19.99! It is narrow but you might be just able to fit a laptop on it. I would LOVE it for a hair station too! Seriously if you spent as long as I do on your hair you’d need to sit down too…hahaha.
So let’s see what else. Ah yes, the Trofast line. So much functionality to it, what’s not to love!
Need to make yourself a Command Center? Maybe these magnetic boards for $14.99 would help, they’re huge!
I’ve had a number of questions about storing scarves. I was super excited to find a very clever solution for only $9.99.
Drawer organizers for $8.99:
And finally I just thought this curtain rod turned art center was a brilliant idea!
So thanks for taking this virtual Ikea tour with me…wish we could have all gone to the store together. Think of all the fun we’d have!!
Did you see anything in the pictures above that you think would work for your house?

We love the Expedits…we have a 2×4 for our daughter’s room and we’re looking at getting a 5X5 for our living room/dining room…I love all of the different kinds of inserts too. In our daughter’s room we have two of the ones that divide the cubby into four – they’re perfect!

I love the curtain rod you show, my oldest one is starting school in the fall and I’ve already been pondering where to showcase his projects. Darn, I already *have* to go next week to pick up something for my hubby. Guess I’ll just need to take a peek at that rod 😉

Hi Kim, that sign above the white buckets in my other post my sister bought me. I have always loved the saying and have a number of them throughout my house.

I love the expedit shelves, we have one in my daughters room with bright blue cloth covered boxes to use as toy bins, one in the living room being used a stand for our aquarium, and one in the master bedroom as a bookshelf.

I love the Expedit shelves. We have two in the basement for toys and books. One in the school room for files, and one in the boys room closet. Ikea sells so many fillers for these shelves now, but long ago there were only expensive baskets or things children would destroy easily. I found the a large sterlite basket fits perfectly and also leaves room for little hands to pull it off the shelf.
I think one could use these sheves anyehere in the home they are so versatile.

You’re making me anxious for the opening of the IKEA that they just started building 10 minutes away from me!
Living the Balanced Life says
Oh, you are in SO much trouble! I have to drive an hour to get to Ikea, and battle traffic so I only go a few times a year!

It won’t open til 2012 or 2013, so I have some time… but I am looking forward to it. I have never been to Ikea but I’ve always wanted to! I know just what I will buy – some TALL shelves for my living room!

Time for part THREE! I love this series! =)

No Ikea near me but they have similar cubbies, like the ones hanging on the wall, at Target.
Living the Balanced Life says
We bought the Target ones for my teen daughter. They have 8 cubbies, 2 high by 4 wide. She has 2 of them and they have been very handy. Just as Laura was saying about the Ikea ones, you can turn them whichever way you want or stack them.
Daughter is preparing to go to school and moving into a small apartment next month. These cubbies will be perfect.

A lot of these ideas are great! I’ve been trying to figure out a better way to pre-sort my laundry into more than the standard 2-3 hamper sections, and I think a shelf with 6 cubbies might do the trick. I like that the Trofast line looks like you could use some larger bins and some smaller, which would be perfect! Too bad the nearest IKEA is four hours away!

I love the curtain rod art center idea!! I have an idea for the side of my fridge (which is right near my desk) to make into a command center….. What if you took a cafe rod & used Command hooks to hold it up on your fridge & used the curtain rings with the clips to hold up artwork or pictures or paperwork that is going in & out?….. hmmmmm…. creative juices are flowing now!!!

I actually have the drawer organizers. i bought them on a Ikea detour when we were driving home from DC. I have several of the drawer organizers and its been amazing how much easier it is to find my stuff. I would say about 50% of my house is from Ikea with about 50% of that being storage and organization items. You can really get carried away downstairs in the housewares section. Plus its great for a super tight budget. The end of the year clearance sale is great to get the items your really want but keep debating on cost if you aren’t picky about the color option.
I stood in front of a similar Trofast display a good 20 minutes debating not only where would i put it but how would i get it home since my truck was full of our vacation stuff. I decided to leave it in the store and go measure first and come back again in a few months.

Oh my! I love these IKEA posts – I just drool the whole time … part 3 maybe?

Denver is due to get their new IKEA on July 27th this year. It’s been a long time waiting! I grew up in Orange County, CA so I’ve missed IKEA. I’m excited to be able to actually buy and suggest to clients that they buy all of these great organizing solutions. !
Kristina Carter says
IKEA is one of the best stores to find organizing items. I shop there at least once a month and can always find many things to organize. We have many Expedit items in our house! We also have the tall and narrow Expedit shelves in one closet that holds all of our DVDs.
Leah says
You know that scarf holder?
You could make one by saving the plastic ring-thing that holds sports drinks (Gatorades) and hanging it on a hanger (vertically). We got some smaller Gatorades that came in a 12 pack.
Would not look quite as pretty, but if you dressed it up with a ribbon bow maybe?
Deneice says
I thought of an uber-cheapo way to make the scarf hanger! Save a few lops from soda cans or bottles. Use your awesome imagination and some pretty ribbon or yarn to hook them together and attach your new creation to a hanger.
I will try to make one soon! (We don’t drink soda so I am going to have to find them somewhere!)
Deneice says
@Leah ~ Hahahaha….I didn’t read all the comments…I was too busy looking for the commenting spot….and we had the same idea! LOL!
