Hi all, how are you this week? Thanks for joining me here!
For me last week was a two cake week and I’m happy to say at least one of them turned out..lol. The Double Musky Cake took me almost TWO hours to make but was so absolutely delicious it was totally worth it. I am highly recommending that one for sure. The Starbucks Coffee Cake, however, was a bit of a bust for me in that the topping, which you put on mid way through cooking the cake, wouldn’t all fit into the pan so I had to try to push it down causing the cake underneath to bubble up over the topping in some places. Let’s just say it didn’t look too appetizing when it was done. So with a little help from my twitter friends, I served it all ready cut up so no one would notice and sprinkled powdered sugar all over the top to hide the imperfections. I still felt there was a little too much topping for this cake though (as you can see in the picture it was almost more topping than cake) which made it really really sweet. I also should have warmed it as well as the topping was a tad on the hard side.
Oh and just as a bit of a side note, a couple of weeks ago I posted about the Strawberry Rhubarb Preserves I had made and a couple of people asked me what rhubarb was. I’ve found a great explanation for you here.
Okay so this week I’m trying to keep things pretty simple (and no cake baking!):
Monday: Shepherd’s Pie courtesy of M&M’s (do you have this store in the US?)
Tuesday: Easy Teriyaki Chicken Burgers served with tossed salad
Wednesday: Chicken Caesar Wraps using up leftover chicken
Thursday: Tortellini Marinara
Friday: Pesto Hamburgers served with french fries and grilled veggies
Saturday: Leftover buffet
Simple Supper Sunday
Don’t forget to join me on Blog Talk Radio on Monday night at 8:30 pm EST! More info here.

I have a really deep 9 x 13 casserole pan, so I may try that Starbuck’s Cake. It looks really good. Thanks for sharing it!

The cake looks yummy, even if you had trouble.
Thanks for hosting!

Wonderful menu plan! Thanks for hosting this. Have a great week.
Laura says
Kayren, yes a deep 9×13 would definitely be best and if you look at Leigh Anne’s picture hers doesn’t look like a lot of topping on top.

Hi, I’m back on with the menus again. Life was getting nuts without a plan.. Do not take 4 weeks off unless you like insanity. I love rhubarb. Yummy.
Jenn FL says
We do not have M&M’s here. It is one of the stores I miss most since moving here. That and Timmies ….
Denise says
*sigh* Your dinners sound wonderful as usual, Laura! Eat some of that tortellini for me, would you?? 😉
Jennie says
Oooh, the teriyaki chicken burgers sound good. We might have to try those here sometime!
Martha says
Looks wonderful and your menu sounds great for this week 🙂
Accidental Hausfrau says
Peston Hamburgers – check! Thanks for hosting.
Deb says
Can I send my kids to your house to eat? Your menu sounds much better than mine! Thanks for letting me participate in MPM. 🙂

Yummo!

I’m back at school after our June/July holidays (in Queensland Australia) so I’m also back on the bandwagon with menu planning!
Angela says
Thanks for hosting! I hope you are enjoying your summer with the kiddos.
Two cakes in one week? You are a cake queen! The chicken burgers sound yummy! I am going to see if I can adapt those for us. Maybe get some in the freezer for a lazy grilling day.
Abigail's Mommy says
We do not have M&M’s here in Maine.
Angela says
I’m making a pesto chicken recipe this week. Our basil is in full swing so it will be a yummy chance to use it. Your pesto burgers look delicious!
kat says
You mention a Musky cake & all I can think of is a fish cake made from the Muskies my brother-in-law fishes for 😉

As see a lot of links for those participating in the grocey challenge. That’s great! The biggest challenge for me is not blowing my budget because someone is telling me to have a budget.
Krystal says
I don’t really attempt baking very much anymore. . .it’s just one thing I don’t do well at!
debi b says
Ok, you know I saw your comments on twitter and I have to say, that cake sure looks yummy, even if you had trouble.
I copied that recipe and have it cooking in the oven right now 🙂
Kara says
That Musky Cake looks just divine! And thanks for linking to the other recipes too, I just love Taste of Home!
Randa says
This is my first time participating in your Menu Plan Monday – I love the idea!
No baking here this week, either. Temperatures will be into the 100’s, so the only thing baking this week will be us =)
Jennifer says
You could have fooled me- that cake looks delicious. The weather’s been so nice here I haven’t wanted to bake, but I promised my son I’d bake a pirate cake (a cake pirates eat, not one that looks like pirates). I’m hoping I can pass pumpkin bread off as pirate cake!
Laura says
Debi, let me know how yours turns out!
Jill says
Tortellini Marinara sounds good!
Becky says
Cakes, especially anything chocolate, sound good to me. I’ve not made one in awhile. Menu for me this week….chicken and mashed potatoes (Monday), Homemade ham soup (Tues), crockpot chili(Wed). Leftovers (Thurs), eat out Friday and Sat. Your food always sounds good, maybe cuz I don’t have to cook it. Since I work 3x a week, I do something early on in the week making 2 meals on Monday. Always a challenge cuz I’d rather goof off Monday. Will be more of a challenge today since I have a meeting at 6:30 and need to make banana bread from the brown bananas. May put rhubarb in it as well and double the recipe for 2 loaves. Give away one to our pastor’s family, since they just moved into a new house and had a new baby 3 weeks ago and have 3 other children. What a busy time for them. Take care!!

I am glad that alot of people share their menus. I some times don’t know what I am doing some days.
The cake looks yummy.
Melissa Holgate says
This is my two cake week! Wish me luck! Actually, we have 3 birthdays within 8 days around here in July! That’s a LOT of cake!
Christa says
I really wish you hadn’t posted the link for the Double Musky Cake. That looks like a dangerous cake. Although if it takes 2 hours to make, maybe I’d be less likely to want to make it weekly.
Gudrun says
You are in Canada? How cool!
No, we don’t have M&Ms here, I thought you might have been talking about the candy 🙂
I am late this week, and do not have a really good plan for the summer squash that came in our veggie box, so if you have any kid-friendly ideas, I would love to hear them!
Cheers,

Normally I like a lot of topping on cakes like that. . . but yeah, that is a little much!
Tamara says
I am new to this but thought that I would give it a go. Just started today but I guess I have to start somewhere. I have next week planned too but will post it next week.

I am new to M.P.M. and I hope I am posting this correctly.

We’ve been out of town, but I just posted my menu! Better late than never!

Okay, so I am posting at the end of the week – my review! I have a couple of links on there for healthy apple muffins (which I haven’t tried yet) and lentil brown rice casserole (which is tomorrow’s lunch!) Thanks for the inspiration on the Chicken Teriyaki Burgers 🙂
