Menu Plan Monday ~ May 12th

in Menu Plan Monday

I hope everyone had a nice Mother’s Day today! The men at our church served up a nice yummy pancake breakfast this morning. It was such a treat! My littlest guy is down sick with a cold so he’s gone to bed early and I’m off to relax on the couch with the newest Sophie Kinsella book, “Remember Me?” I just love her books especially the Shopaholic series. Such fun!

A picture of the pretty sunflower plant my hubbie bought me.

Thank you all for such nice comments on the new MPM banners last week! If you missed them, you can find them all here, including the apron one which I brought back by popular demand :)

This week I’m challenging myself to reduce my grocery bill by $50.00. I’m really going to try but without coupons (we don’t have them here at the end of nowhere) I’ll attempt it with a simpler menu instead and see what happens. Care to join me?

So here is what we’ll be eating this week:

Monday: Special Egg Salad sandwiches (I love this recipe!) served with tomato soup

Tuesday: Chicken Coleslaw Wraps

Wednesday: Cheesy Italian Pasta Bake

Thursday: Bacon Spinach Salad served with bread machine Buttermilk Wheat Rolls

Friday: Rosemary Chicken Pizza

Saturday: Leftovers

WHAT’S ON YOUR MENU THIS WEEK?

If you are new, welcome! Guidelines can be found here.

I am trying to reduce our shopping bill as well. My first step is to cut out on some non essential items (like my diet coke!!!). I think this will make a difference and I will take your tip on simple meals too.

I’m bookmarking the coleslaw chicken wraps for a future week. They sound delicious!

I’ve never read Sophie Kinsella. I’ll have to check her out! Thanks for the recommendation, and as usual thanks for hosting.

Your menu looks great, especially the chicken coleslaw wraps. I have coleslaw on my menu for this week, if we have leftovers might have to add your wraps recipe to next week’s menu! I too am trying to lower our food budget, but not sure if I can get to $50 lower … heck of a goal though! Cheers, Kiy

MMMMMMmmmmmmm….Chicken coleslaw wraps. That’s going on a future menu for sure! I have already cut down on my grocery bill just by utilizing the Menu Plan Monday. Thanks!!

Sounds great, Laura! I am trying really hard to keep our costs down around here. I’m looking for things to make that I don’t have to buy very many ingredients. That makes it hard when I see lots of new things that I want to try!!

I’m sorry, I made a bit of a mistake and linked to last week’s MPM post. So I added another one with this week’s. Sorry if that’s confusing to anyone!

That is a great challenge. I am pretty sure I can do my whole menu this week out of what I already have. We did save a huge amount of money Saturday night. The kids wanted to go to the Japanese steakhouse restaurant, but instead we made our own version at home for a fraction of the price.

Your menu looks great! I’m hoping to save money next shopping trip too by using coupons and planning the menu on what is on sale and what I already have.

Have a great week!

I understand with wanting to cut the costs. Our bill went up a bit this week thanks to the costs going up just a little bit on most things (although I also stocked up on a good sale on some meat). I find that coupons don’t always help me on some stuff since a lot of it I don’t buy. Although I can use some of them – but just not save what a lot of people can.

That Rosemary Chicken Pizza Sounds good. Unfortunately, hubby likes pepperoni pizza. He’s really good about trying different things, but when I ask what he wants, it’s always Pepperoni pizza. I’ve learned not to ask then I can just make what I want to. :D

Mother’s Day Breakfast!!.. YUM! Happy (belated) Mother’s Day! :-)

A couple of months ago I challenged myself to cut the grocery bill by $100. I pull that amount right off of the top every month and then work with what I have left.

I don’t always make it without tapping into it a bit but some months I do… and that is really fun! :-)

Good luck with your personal challenge! Eager to hear how it goes for you!!

Well I’m not budgeting $50 less, but I think that just the fact that I’m menu planning will save us money this week. Wahoo. By the way, this is my second week menu planning and I think I’m on a roll . . .

I, too, am hoping to keep grocery costs minimal this week as I plan to buy new baby chicks and tomato plants instead. Future food! (the chicks will be for eggs; I can’t bring myself to eat them)

Hi Laura,

Thanks for hosting Menu Plan Monday!

I love Sophie Kinsella. She is one of my favorite authors although I admit that I am partial to her Shopaholic series. I miss Becky!

Another author you would like is Jennifer Weiner. She is similar to Kinsella. Her sequel to “Good in Bed” is out now and I have it from the library. Give her a try if you haven’t already.

I too have been cutting down the grocery bill. I have paid only in cash since the beginning of February (no credit cards since Feb, actually, for anything!) and it is a challenge but I usually get away with around 80$ per week, on average, for my family of five. That stinks that you can’t use coupons though!

Have a great week!

Our grocery store bill was less this week but only because we got our first box from our farm share guess I’ve got to add in the cost of that ;) I still think in the long run buying our veggies directly like this will be cheaper. Good luck on your quest to lower the bills, it isn’t easy these days!

Good for you, Laura! I’m eager to hear how your week goes and if you were able to lower your budget.

I don’t use coupons either- they simply don’t work for me for many reasons, but I still find it totally possible to lower my budget when I need to and to keep it relatively low all the time. I’m sure your menu will go great and stay within your budget!

The pizza recipe sounds delicious- I will have to try it with some extra pizza dough I have in the fridge!

I would love to try reducing my menu budget in about two weeks when I go shopping again, but with hubby making some of the meals I’m a little limited on easy meals that he would like to fix. Anyone have any suggestions?
