When I sat down to write this article on holiday housekeeping tips I had my doubts that I had anything helpful to offer to the topic. I mean really? I can’t say I spend a great deal of time on housekeeping and I certainly don’t stress about it. But then it occurred to me that the reason I’m able to keep the cleaning to a minimum is due to some of the simple practices I utilize in my home on a regular basis. These consistent steps, centered around the idea of keeping it simple and not sweating the small stuff, make it possible for me to have my house ready for company in 15 minutes flat and you can too. {continue reading over at BlogHer}

I like your tips over at BlogHer. I especially like the one about keeping cleaning wipes in each bathroom — I do that myself and I find it makes it very simple to clean things up, for example, while your child is bathing.

Thanks for the tips. Clutter control is a problem in this house. I too use the 15 minute plan to cut down on the overwhelming task of “cleaning the whole house.” Good stuff!

Great tips! I try to clean one room a day and by the end of the week the whole house is clean. I like the idea of taking something with you from the room you are in to where ever you are headed. Thanks!

It’s amazing how just the small things like keeping cleaning supplies in each bathroom and the kitchen can make the job of cleaning so much easier to keep on top of.
Great Tips.

What works best for my family, aside from the day to day stuff that I take care of during the day, is what we call the “10 minute tidy” Every night, or at least almost every night, I set a timer for 10 minutes and everyone (even hubby) goes around and we pick up, put things in their place, my 6 year old will even windex the main dining room window, etc. On good days the floor gets a once over with the little handy vac, and some key pieces in the living room get a quick dusting. If you consider 3 people x 10 minutes each…you’ve got 30 minutes of work time and ALOT can get accomplished! Consistency is key, because there is less and less to do each night.

I’m behind in reading some of my blogs. I’m working on keeping my house looking ok. Right now the table in dining room looks like a hurricane struck it as there’s left over from doing Christmas cards last night and getting the mail today. Get it cleaned this afternoon cuz tomorrow’s another day!!! Thanks for all your insight and support!!
Have a great Christmas season!!!
