Hello! Today we went trekking through the bush for our annual Christmas tree hunt. Pine is our favorite kind. We found a great looking one that I think might only need a little creative hole filling 🙂 Afterwards I was able to pop into Wal*mart to pick up something I’ve had my eye on for awhile because it finally went on sale! I don’t know how many of you noticed but I haven’t been using my slow cooker nearly as much as I use too. That’s because the one we had was just getting a little too small for this family of five. Today I was able to pick up a 7 quart Crockpot for $30.00 plus it came with a little dipper crockpot as well which will be really handy for keeping things like dips and chocolate warm. Yippee!!!
I don’t need any of that fancy schmancy programmable stuff. I’m just a simple gal….low, high and warm work just fine for me. Check out the difference in size:
So of course this week I’m looking forward to giving it a go and hopefully I won’t have any problems. I’m sure it will take a little while to get the temperature times down pat again but I’m okay with that.
My girlfriend sent me this link with plenty of slow cooker recipes to choose from and of course Sandra’s got a whole slew of them here on Delicious from the Slow Cooking Thursday carnival she runs each week. Also Stephanie from A Year of Crockpotting has close to a years worth of recipes up on her site now.
So let’s get to it shall we? Have a great week everyone!!
Monday: Burritos
Tuesday: Kathy’s Delicious Whole Slow Cooker Chicken
Wednesday: Slow Cooker Salsa Roast Beef (just doesn’t get any easier than that!)
Thursday: Smarter Fettuccini Alfredo using leftover chicken
Friday: Asian Peanut Beef & Noodles using leftover roast
Saturday: Fondue!
Simple Supper Sunday

Fondue! Yummmy! I bet my boys might like to try that soon. Love your new crockpot! This is my first MPM on my brand new blog and I’m so excited to be a part of it! 🙂

Hey, enjoy that crockpot! I have a newish one myself and have found it cooks somewhat unevenly–one side much hotter than the other–so check for that too! Easily fixed by stirring halfway with most of what I make but something to look out for. Happy slow cooking!
Joelen says
I need to use my crockpot more – thanks for the inspiration!

I absolutely love my crockpot! I seem to have more time to cook in the mornings, so if I can get the meal on then, then right before dinner I have time to do errands, go to the gym, or whatever!
Today I’ve posted on my method to teach teens to cook! Come and check it out!

I had our crockpot working yesterday. My husband loved the Chinese Dumpling Soup.
Lots of veggies!
Kris Van Allen says
Congrats on the Crockpot! That’s the size we have too, and with 3 teenagers it’s a godsend.
Here’s a great recipe for you:
Slow Cooker Pot Roast
1 chuck roast/pot roast (5-6#), can be frozen solid!
1 package Lipton onion soup mix
1 1/3 cup water
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
put roast in crockpot
mix everything else, pour over roast
cook on high 4 hrs, or low for 8.
I use a 3# roast, and estimate half of the rest of the recipe. The gravy it makes is amazing, too!

Our week is short as we head off to Jamaica. Fun!
The Asian Peanut Beef & Noodles sounds really good. Will have to try that sometime.
Have a great few weeks.

Menu looks great!
Wow, that is a size difference in your crockpots! I think the one I have now is about the size of your old one…
Well, my 20 mo old is yelling for me to come rescue her from her crib–and so my day starts!
Rita says
My crockpot is my lifesaver. It is 30 years old, West Bend, and one that is really a stockpot that you put on a heating base. I’ve used it faithfully these many years and love it.
Thanks for hosting Menu Plan Mondays!

It’s all lookin’ pretty yummy!! 🙂

We have an easy week this week. I almost feel silly posting but its hard when my hubby is not home.
Charlene says
I have three crockpots, a regular sized one and two of the big ones. It does take longer to cook most things in the bigger crockpots, I think because the heating element is farther from the center of the food. Sure is handy when you have a lot to cook, though!
Lori L. says
I was JUST thinking about busting out the crock-pot when I read your post. Divine intervention. That chicken dish sounds delicious for my first crock-pot meal in a while.
Cathy | GF says
Thanks for hosting again! In real life I do up my menus every TWO weeks, so I gave up separating them (cause I kept missing week 2 anyway) and put both weeks in today’s post. 🙂
So glad to have gotten this done!
Susanne says
Congratulations on the new member of your family! I’m sure you’ll have many happy meals. :v)
I love my larger crockpot and I also love the oval shape. Fits oblong roasts and whole chickens wonderfully.
