If you live in big house and have the luxury of an entire room dedicated to gift wrapping, then this post is probably not for you. I would guess to say that the majority of us have to come up with alternative compact solutions to store all our holiday wrapping supplies.
Before I get into that though, the first thing we need to do is consolidate it all. In other words, take a walk around your home and gather up all the bits and pieces. From the wrap itself to the bags, tags, bows, stickers, tape, pens and scissors, collect it all into one spot. This step alone will save you TONS of time because when it’s time to get a wrapping, you’ll have everything you need right at your finger tips. Whoot!
Honestly though I’m not a huge fan of the wrapping process in general but I do it to you know ensure my kids otherwise known as snoop, snoopier and snoopiest don’t see what they’re getting for Christmas. The best way I know to get my wrapping groove on is by turning on a great Christmas movie to put me in the mood. Gosh I love sappy Christmas movies. I don’t care that they all pretty much have the exact same plot line, I just can’t get enough. Every time I go to Walmart I cruise the movie section to see if maybe there is a new one I haven’t discovered yet 🙂
Oops I’ve digressed (bad habit I know!) so let’s move on to how we are going to keep said collected supplies contained and organized. There are many ways to do this depending on what type of space you have available for storage and budget you have available to spend.
You can find more options on my Organized Christmas Pinterest Board.
My organizer of choice though is this inexpensive upright version below because it can be stored easily in the off season tucked away for another year. I purchased mine at Walmart many moons ago.
However one thing that’s always bugged me about this organizer is lack of space for the tags, tape, stickers and scissors. Sure there is the small extra “shelf” on top but there just wasn’t enough room for everything. If I threw it into the main body, it would all fall down to the bottom making it hard to reach. It really did annoy me year after year. This year I said enough is enough. I took a trip to my local hardware store and walked around trying to get inspiration. That’s when I saw these garden belts on sale for $7.00. Perfect for organizing a Christmas gift wrap center.
I simply tied it around my wrap center and fastened 3M Command Picture Clips upside down to make sure it would stay in place and not fall down.
LOVE! It’s working brilliantly. One of those things I wish I’d thought of long ago. Three extra pockets that are easy to reach when I’m sitting right beside it wrapping my presents.
The top of my center holds a few additional supplies but as you can see space is limited there:
And just because I was on a roll and my mind was reeling with the extra storage phenomenon I added a Martha Stewart Pocket on the other side of the center for even more storage. Somebody stop me, I’m out of control!!
Speaking of Martha Stewart you may have noticed some beautiful wrap and things in my photos above. That’s because, as part of my blogger initiative with her (my first post is here), she sent me a selection of her new Martha Holiday line out this year, exclusively at Staples stores, to help stock my wrap station.
The entire collection is extensive and well fun, fun, fun. Bright, colorful and cheery. She has colorful shipping envelopes and kraft paper for wrapping boxes to ship out plus patterned shipping tape too! I also love the Christmas wrap and tags as well. So pretty! Let’s get up close and personal:
Gift labels:
Festive printer labels!!
Gift tag cut-outs:
Kraft paper and gift wrap:
Packing tape:
You can find the entire Martha Christmas collection exclusively in Staples stores in the US.
Let’s wrap it up:
1. Collect all wrapping supplies into one area
2. Find a suitable container to keep it all organized
3. Amp it up with additional storage solutions if you have to
4. Fill it with pretty wrap and tags
5. Go crazy wrapping
The end.

You have the same organizer as I do. The miniscule top container has always driven me nuts, love your ideas. I’ll have to look for those aprons to go on sale next year and pick it up!

I so need something like this. I have all my stuff shoved in the biggest gift bag I have and it just all falls over and the little stuff gets crushed at the bottom. I was wondering how you get affiliated with companies such as Martha Stewart? I have been very interested in doing sponsored posts for companies. I have emailed specific companies, I have signed up for blogvertise and social spark and nothing comes up. I may not have enough followers yet. I got one offer from social spark but it was for fast easy insurance quotes- which I know nothing about, and I tried to get a quote and it was not fast or easy and i don’t want ot do posts for thing I don’t believe in. If you could gib=ve me soem advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Thank you! I have one of those organizers and have the same difficulty as you did. Love your solution, especially since I have a never used one in the garage. Can’t wait to attach it. Thanks!

I have been keeping my rolls of wrapping paper in a tall, plastic wastebasket and my bows and tags in an old hat box. I hide it all under my laundry counter so it’s out of sight. I love my system but always run out of room. Might just try your upright container solution…thanks so much for the great post!

I love these tidy gift wrap ideas, and thanks so much for the coupon! My wrapping station consists of a ripped plastic bag in the back of my closet, so I think an under-the-bed storage compartment might be a perfect replacement. I’ve already started buying gifts so I definitely need to put a little TLC into my station before I buy more. I’m getting my husband an iPad this year so that he can watch live TV and our DVR recordings with the DISH Remote Access app while he’s a way from home. One of my coworkers at DISH who travels a lot for work suggested it since it’s the only way that he keeps up on his football when he’s out of the country. Thanks again!

I have “suspended” my wrapping paper from the closet ceiling! Two ribbons, 4 hooks. I can easily see all my different wrapping paper and it doesn’t get lost in the back dark corner of the closet. Since I have a small step stool in the same room all the time, it’s totally convenient, yet totally out of the way. I strung my spools of ribbon on hooks on the wall too.

I LOVE the gardening belt idea! And using the 3M hooks to hold it up?? GENIUS! I’m addicted to anything 3M related 🙂
Thanks for the brilliant idea for the wrapping station!!

Question: does the lid still fit on when using the command ou I just leave the lid off?
Laura says
No the lid does fit on.

* or do I*

I love my upright wrapping container too but my problem is that I always end up with paper that is too tall so the lid is useless.
