Hey there y’all! Today I want to share a simple mini laundry room makeover I did recently. And by simple, I mean simple. No renovation, no painting, no drywall. Just some tidying up, decor and a bit of organization. With the exception of a few baskets, I shopped my house to find all the items to use. I’ve never given this area any sort of love at all. I mean it’s a laundry room and I really dislike doing laundry (although this laundry hack I use is life changing!). So I really don’t spend a huge amount of time there, ha!
When my kids turn 12 they were/are entirely responsible for doing there own laundry. My husband also prefers to do his own. So I’ve only got mine to do and I stretch the time out between loads as long as possible. However one day while I was standing at my washing machine waiting on it to load I had a good look around and thought, wow this place could use some help. It took no time at all to move some things around and spruce it up a bit. Now I dislike laundry a little less. So I’ll take that as a win!
You’ll need to keep in mind that this isn’t a Pinterest worthy makeover. But it is real life and not staged in the slightest. I almost hesitate to even share it but I do like how mood lifting even small changes can be. A room refresh doesn’t always have to be big and flashy or cost a lot of money.

My Mini Laundry Room Makeover
I’m going to start by sharing a few before pictures with you. Keep in mind that my laundry room is an unfinished space in my basement. No painted walls, no finished ceiling and not so lovely cement floors. And I literally added that laundry sign moments before snapping these pictures. I purchased it from Dollarama.
And here is how my mini laundry room makeover turned out. I made it a little prettier and a little less cluttered. Those that have been around here awhile will recognize the pictures from my bedroom. I got a new larger picture for my bedroom so these ones you see below are getting a new life in my laundry room. I think they like it in here :). At some point I may even get wild and crazy and hang them on the wall :).
The little riser I used in the middle is from the dollar store. I keep the cute little yellow piggy bank there for all the loose change I find. One day it might take me on a nice holiday to Hawaii, ha!
That ledge underneath the window is where my hubby keeps his fish equipment and plant stuff. He loves both those things (and likes them near the sink) and we have an unspoken agreement that I don’t touch his things. However I am allowed to add baskets as long as I don’t get rid of anything. All that crap stuff needed to be contained as its reach was going a little too far for my liking.Three bins from Dollarama did the trick as well as this divided basket I already had on hand from Amazon. It was the perfect solution for all his little packs of seeds.
The basket that use to be on top of the dryer was my basket for clothes that needed to be hand washed. However let’s be clear, by hand wash I mean I run these clothes through the delicate cycle. I was able to switch out the green bin for a white one that I made room for on the cube shelves. We have this old wire cube system that once housed toys when the kids were little, that then became a beach towel rack. It was busting at the seams. So I pared down the towels and added two new baskets (also from Dollarama), one as my new “hand wash” basket and one for the kitchen cloths and rags that I like to wash separately. I moved my sewing machine that was on top of the cubes to the spare room closet.
Attached to the side is just an over the door basket that I use to keep swimming goggles all in one place.
Oh and I do have a tiny cabinet to the left just out of the picture that stores my detergent, vinegar and stain cleaners. I’m working on changing this out for something else that’s just a little bigger but haven’t quite found what I’m looking for yet.
I wiped everything down really well and also did a good scrub of the washing machine and dryer. The machines are on their last legs I think but we’ll probably hang on to them until they quit working all together.
As you can see a small refresh can make a big difference. I almost don’t even mind doing my laundry now. I said almost! Love that the visual clutter has been contained and will hopefully keep the clutter creep from spreading out too far. Definitely happy with how it turned out. Please let me know if you have any questions about anything you see here that I maybe didn’t explain.
Thanks for stopping by!

Oh my gosh……I LOVE your laundry sign!! (Iron….hahaha) Adorable!! I think it all looks great! Most of us don’t have those swoon worthy, magazine type rooms. I love that this authentic and real life.

Ahh thanks for saying so Tina, I really appreciate it so much!! And yep I couldn’t resist that sign cause this girl doesn’t iron, ha!

I love this! You really made a big difference and it inspires me to pick something that annoys me and make some changes. Also, “let’s be clear,” hand wash = delicate cycle made me laugh because that is my philosophy too.
Laura Wittmann says
Haha thank goodness for the delicate cycle!!!

The way your dryer vent is positioned, I think it would be fun to turn it into a rainbow. You could use washi tape.
Laura Wittmann says
That would be fun!

Exactly what others have said, Laura. I think we’re all getting tired of the aspirational rooms, and want to see more real rooms like yours. My “laundry room” is a corner of my kitchen and you’ve given me some ideas to at least make things a bit more consistent in colour so it’s a little bit more joy-inducing. Because laundry is STILL my most-hated chore, and I’d say the hanging up is my favourite part of it due to the view from my washing line.
Laura Wittmann says
Oh yes your view is STUNNING!!!

Back when HGTV first started there was a great show call Design on a Dime. Your redo reminds me of the great things we used to see, not what we are inundated with now where everything is picture perfect and eerily matchy.

Thanks Michelle!!
