The following is a guest post about how to find motivation in your day during uncertainty from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project.
Sometimes, life throws you a curve ball. Last month, I had all intention of sharing another budgeting post. The information was already flowing through my head too. I was excited about it and ready to help y’all with money management. Then, life happened. So, I will still be sharing that information, but not this month.
This month, I want to help y’all get motivated to get your house organized and clutter free during this time of social distancing.
I feel if I didn’t talk about the virus though and how it has affected my life, I would be missing the boat. However I will be honest. I was not expecting any of this to happen. I did not expect to be homeschooling my kids the last two months of the school year. My heart goes out to those who have dealt with the negative affects of this virus.
I could really get caught up in the negatives, if I allowed myself to do so, especially since the walls of my house have been the only things I have seen for four weeks. But, I have used this time to be positive and get some much needed organization and decluttering done.
We all handle stress, anxiety, and uncertainty differently. For me, being physically active helps my mind and spirits. My physical activity comes in the form of organizing.
Every day, there are four things that I do in order to keep me motivated and positive, and I wanted to share those today.
Make the Bed Every Morning
This is something that I have always done, but I think it is definitely important during this time. Making the bed is my first big accomplishment of the day. That one thing gives me a little bit of a boost to get my day going in the right direction. Plus, it automatically makes my bedroom feel put together.
My husband and I also make our kids make their beds up every morning as well. Even though we are not going to school, they need to learn that making up their bed is important, even on days where you do not leave the house.
Have a Routine
This one is so important! Those first two weeks were rough. We didn’t know what we needed to be doing and could not wrap our brains around life at the moment. Once we got all of that out of our heads, we decided to get the entire family on a routine. We function best with a routine. Our routine involves getting up, making the beds, eating breakfast, homeschool work, and then daily household chores.
If the kids get done with their school work and helping us around the house, then they get time to play or watch television.
Set Daily Goals
I have heard so many people say that they haven’t used their planner in months. Well, that is not true in my home. My planner is still out every day and the to do lists are still flowing. It keeps me sane and helps with my daily anxiety. My planner motivates me, even on days when my household walls are all that I see.
Every day, I have a list of goals that need to be addressed. After I reach a goal, I mark it off or highlight it. I get so much satisfaction out of marking through an accomplishment. Sometimes, I will even write down something I have already done just to mark it off. Anyone else do that?
Documenting My Accomplishments
This has been a huge thing for me. I started it the first day of social distancing. Every day, I take a snapshot of an accomplishment or event that took place that day. I want to be able to look back on this time and smile about the positive things that took place. It is so easy to get drawn into all of the negativity. I don’t even watch the news very much because it was constantly giving me major stress, anxiety, and heart ache.
Every day may not be good, but we have to remember that positive moments are still there. We just have to snatch them up and focus on them.
How are you staying positive and keeping motivated to get things organized around your house?
My name is Kristin and I am a middle school career education teacher by day and a mommy/wife/blogger by night. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two loving children. We recently made a life-changing move to Arkansas, so our new house is always under construction. I get excitement out of finding new creative, functional, and cute ways to organize things! I also enjoy writing and documenting life as it happens. So, I put these loves together and created The Gold Project. With the help of my husband, I am attempting to turn our house into a home. So, check out this special place of mine and take this journey with me!
