The following is a guest post about organized floor cleaning tools from regular contributor, Rachel.
The entire downstairs of our home is covered with hard flooring, mostly travertine stone tiles. Keeping it clean is relatively simple, aside from the pesky grout lines. I have a few handy tools in my cleaning arsenal for hard floors. Here’s how I keep those tools organized and ready to use for the next craft clean-up or toddler food fight.
Our laundry room is on the first floor, so it was a natural thought for me to keep all my floor cleaners in that space. That is, everything aside from our vacuum cleaner, which I keep in the garage. The other floor cleaners hang in the laundry room. I like that method of organization the best. It allows for easy retrieval of what I’m searching for without the other items crashing to the floor.
It’s simple really. I used a very inexpensive wire hanging rack because this is not a place in our home that I want to invest a lot of money. Yes, I want it organized for function sake, but it doesn’t need to be the most expensive product on the market just to look pretty. THIS (affiliate link) works fine for hanging my sweep/mop system, a dusting wand, a floor steamer, and a random yardstick that had no other home. 😉
I also hung an Ikea bin with vented air holes for the dirty cleaning rags and dirty mop pads I own that are washable.
Below the dirty bin, in the same corner of the laundry room, I hang the surplus mop pads along with a few dusting mitts on THIS UTILITY rack (affiliate link). That little green mitt is for my daughter to help on dusting day. 😉
Basically, when it comes to floors, I have a place to hang the long-handled cleaning tools, a place for the clean washable floor pads to air-dry, and a dirty bin for when the pads are in need of being washed. It’s a difficult corner for me to photograph. I had to change my camera lens for you to get an overall view.
It’s all in one corner and convenient. Wire rack organizers aren’t the most visually appealing but definitely the best price that I found for my floor cleaning needs. I also use the rechargeable Eureka mini vacuum for simple clean-ups. It came with a wall mountable option, which works perfectly! Mine is several years old, HERE (affiliate link) is the newer version.
The most effort I took to make things look “pretty” in this laundry corner was to purchase everything in white so that the organizers themselves all matched. Otherwise, I chose function over form and I’m perfectly happy with that decision. Floor cleaning tools can be organized in tidy fashion, with little effort, in a small space, and with little financial investment.
We all would love to say our floors are “so clean you could eat off them.” I find that impossible, but I try my best by keeping my floor cleaning tools organized for everyday use. As it turns out, I actually do have a little someone eating off my kitchen tile these days. 🙂
In the professional world, I’m a nurse by trade. But, around our house, I’m known as Mommy to our young daughters. My two worlds collided and began shaping into a blog. Useful Beautiful Home represents the hours I’ve dedicated to managing my household as efficiently as possible. I offer you motivation to keep your home healthy, organized, and welcoming. My goal is to share what I’ve implemented in my home to inspire you with fresh ideas and to encourage you to keep up the good work in yours!
