Here we are with only a week and a half until Christmas. Today is the last task in our Organized for Christmas series. I do hope you’ve found it to be helpful.
This week’s task is all about preparing for Christmas dinner. And if you are one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to cook this year, do a little dance and carry on. You get a free pass this week, sweet!
For the rest of us, it’s time to do some menu planning so we don’t stress ourselves out doing it all at the last minute. Last minute is no fun and can cause unnecessary twitching. Let’s avoid the twitching, it’s so not flattering 🙂 Nothing can evoke the grumps faster than a crowded grocery store where you have to leap wide grocery carts in a single bound just to grab the last bag of potatoes. Eeek!
Before we go any further though, let’s recap the list of tasks we’ve checked off so far:
Task #1: Set up gift planner app and budget
Task #2: Find and organize gift storage space
Task #3: Set up a holiday planner
Task #4: Giftster Wish List app
Task #5: Christmas cards
Task #6: Organizing and cleaning
Task #7: Gift Wrap Supplies & Organization
Task #8: Decorating the House
Task #9: Pre-Christmas Purge
whew!
Assignment #10: Christmas Menu Planning
I have learned over the years how essential menu planning is especially at Christmas. A little advance preparation goes a long way to saving your sanity. With so many details involved in cooking a large dinner, a written plan and advance prep are key.
Last year I wrote about this very topic and so rather than recreating the wheel I’m going to direct you over there to read it. You’ll find practical menu planning tips, easy make ahead holiday recipes and my free printable holiday menu planner and baking list.
This Week’s To Do List
- Read my step by step Christmas menu planning guide
- Print off menu planner and baking list printables
- Choose easy recipes and print those recipes off
- Fill in menu planner to schedule advance prep tasks
- Prepare shopping list
- Get groceries as far in advance as you can
- Prepare as many dishes in advance as you can
- Assign guests with a dish to bring if they offer to help
- Enjoy your meal with family and friends 🙂
I hope you have a delicious meal with no snags but keep in mind that snags can and do happen. No matter how much advance prep you do, there will always be something you didn’t anticipate going wrong. It happens. I’ve had both my oven and my fridge quit working on me on two different holidays. But you know what? It’s not the end of the world. We made memories and we still laugh about it to this day. The company is more important than the food and often those Plan B’s are the very best ones.
Merry Christmas everyone!
