The following is a guest post about bathroom organization from regular contributor, Rachel.
Last I was here, I talked about using a 6-hook rack to keep my kitchen cloths tidy in between uses. I also promised to show you how I used the same rack in my bathroom. A “use it two ways” type of product (aka versatile) is always appealing to me.
In the past, I wrote about how I use vertical space to overcome a small vanity challenge. Now I’ll show you how I utilize another space for additional organization in this small corner. Don’t be fooled, this isn’t my most Pin-worthy shot when it comes to aesthetics, BUT it’s functional. And, we all know bathroom organization is best if functional and efficient over all else.
So I took THIS (affiliate link) same basic, well-designed rack and installed it on the end cap of our bathroom vanity. It holds some of the randomness that doesn’t have a home or is too awkward to fit underneath the sink, thanks to the pipes and all.
One example that hangs on this bathroom rack is my blow dryer. I love that most hair dryers have a little round hook at the base of the handle designed for hanging purposes. I didn’t even notice the built-in hook until I was trying to loop it over the rack. Little discoveries like this can make my whole day sometimes. What can I say? I’m easy to please, lol.
I hang the hair dryer on the far right and bundle the cord which hangs on another hook. On the opposite end, I hang my cleaning rag to air dry (see below pic). I find that wiping down the bathroom countertop each night is easier than conducting major cleaning sessions every week. Puddles easily accumulate on our countertop for some reason (I think the sinks are too shallow or something) and the filth gets out of control quickly. A simple wipe down after I get ready for bed manages the mess in between true cleanings. Hence the reason it hangs in convenient reach.
Let’s be honest, as busy as I’ve been this month, true cleanings aren’t always happening every week anyways. So, let’s just say this little habit of mine keeps our bathroom looking clean even if it isn’t perfect. Anyone else “faux clean” with microfiber??? 😉
Finally, I use the front protruding bar to hang my flat iron while it’s cooling down. I’m always concerned the white countertop would get burn marks if the iron rests there too long. It may be an irrational fear, but I don’t have the desire to test my theory about what causes permanent burn marks. So, I hang it upside down over the bar (and away from the other items) to cool off. Usually, I’m lazy and just leave it hanging there rather than putting it away under the sink. It doesn’t bother me, no one sees it unless they’re touring our house for some reason, and it’s functional. All that to say, organized for me may not be picturesque, so do what works (and looks) best for you. 🙂
I’ll leave you with today’s related links below so you don’t have to scroll back through in search of something.

I can relate to the straight iron vs counter/furniture concern.
My daughter, uses a straight iron every morning in her bedroom. I was afraid of the furniture being damaged by the heat if it was accidentally left on. Luckily on a trip to the local dollar store I found a silicone mat originally intended for resting a hot clothes iron on that she now uses. It works great and can be easily stored if required.

That’s a great idea!!! Thanks for sharing Judi! 🙂

So do you just wet the microfiber cloth with water and wipe down or do you use a cleaner?
Rachel says
I just wet down the cloth with water (no cleaners), but it’s a unique microfiber that is designed to remove a good percentage of bacteria and/or viruses from hard surfaces such as this. Saves me time and gives a better clean than I get with chemicals, to be honest! 🙂
