Hey friends, today’s post is all about my love/hate relationship with the lazy Susan I have in my kitchen and the organizing tool that turned it all around. Haha…see what I did there? 🙂
I have two corner cabinets with lazy Susans in my kitchen (in opposite kitchen corners) and I have organized them a variety of ways over the years. A couple of years ago I did a big post called Organizing Lazy Susan Cabinets where I showed you how I organize these tricky spaces.
Two years later and I’m still using the same system which speaks volumes in itself. However one area was making me a wee bit batty. See those brown bins in the top left hand corner above? Yes those. They worked fine enough and because I label the top of my spice jars, I could see what I needed but I just felt that that part of the system could be improved and tweaked upon for easier access.
Since I was loving my spice overstock system so much (bottom left picture above and more details HERE) I decided I wanted to continue with the turntable idea for the regular spice jars as well.
So that’s what I did. I found one really great turntable spinny thing (whatever you want to call it) at Winners but of course they only had one and I needed two. Luckily I found a second one exactly the same on Amazon (affiliate link) which I ordered up right away. Then I had to wait for it to arrive which is no fun because the organizer in me was chomping at the bit to have some fun organizing! Seriously I couldn’t wait to dive in and get it set up.
These organizing tool turntables come in so many different sizes and side height. What I liked about these particular ones are the side lip which measures about one inch high. I wanted to be sure my spices weren’t going to topple over every time I took the thing for a spin. The diameter of these is 9″ across.
They are a perfect organizing tool for my lazy Susan space. This is an example of the functional vs fabulous quandary I wrote about last week. Was my space functional the way it was before? Yep totally and at the time I’m glad I used what I had to get the space functioning well. Three years later this little tweak to the system brings me a little closer to fabulous. And I can totally tell that my lazy Susan has never been happier. Seriously, every time I open the cabinet I can hear the giddiness exude from her very core. It brings tears of joy to my eye but that should really come as no surprise to you 🙂
Labeled lids make life so much easier. I love my favorite label maker (affiliate link) because it’s inexpensive, easy to use and can do 2 line printing which is great for small spaces.
I’m so happy that I can take my spices for a spin anytime I need to quickly access what I need.
Another area in the kitchen I use a turntable is in a top cabinet for my oils.
It really helps me to be able to access all my oils without having to reach all the way in. Nothing gets lost in the back out of sight. Such a small thing that makes a huge difference in functionality.
Do you use turntables in your kitchen or bathroom?

Great idea! I never would have thought of using turn tables inside a lazy susan. Brilliant! Love your wit! 🙂

My problem is that I use the lazy Susan for a variety of oddly shaped/oversized items: my turkey roaster; my gallon pitcher; Rubbermade containers for cookies, etc. Its hard to containerize, because the items are so bulky, but its also always a mess.

Yes that would be hard to containerize but storing bigger items is a great idea as long as you don’t try to stack too much or too high which could leave to some chaos.

I have my cleaning supplies on a lazy susan under the kitchen sink. Easy to spin to get more dish soap, veggie wash or recycling bags (I just stand the box up)

They are so versatile and can be used for so many things!!

I have one on my bathroom counter ~ decorated it with washi tape ~ keeps the counter so much neater and I can find what I need without knocking over everything ~ hubby rolled his eyes at first but now admit he likes how it much more organized my side is
