I am a huge fan of podcasts. I started listening to them many years ago as a way to keep awake when I drive long distances by myself. As long as my mind is engaged I’m awake 🙂 So over the years I’ve discovered and listened to a variety of podcasts. Now, because I love them so much, I try and fit them in whenever I can. Most often though when I’m puttering around my house tidying up and doing chores. It most definitely makes the designated chores for the day so much more enjoyable. It is motivation to get things done. And sometimes we all need a wee bit of motivation don’t we?
I’ve had this post mulling around in my mind for a couple of weeks and just this morning I was reading The Art of Simple blog and guest writer there, Nicole, was talking about the same thing. The post is titled Let Your Passions Help You With Your Chores, or An Ode to Podcasts. She writes:
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, as someone to whom keeping up with housework doesn’t come naturally, podcasts have changed my homemaking life.
There’s just something about listening to a podcast that actually — I can’t believe I’m saying this — makes me want to do more housework (my mom’s jaw just hit the floor), just so I can keep listening. Multi-tasking isn’t always actually that productive for me, but this is one area where I can fill my mind and soul while also doing things that need to be done.
Boy can I relate! You see while I absolutely adore organizing and all it entails, what I don’t like is cleaning and laundry and changing sheets and cooking and all those other mundane messy chores. But they have to get done so motivation of some kind is always key in my book for fueling the fire under my tushie and getting me up and moving. In fact, I used watching vlogs as a way to motivate myself to lose 30 pounds last year. One of these days I’ll have to share a few of my favorite vlogs with you as well.
So if you have a list of things that need done around the house but are just tired and lacking any sort of drive then maybe pop in some earbuds and have a listen to some podcasts while you work. To get you started, let me recommend a few of my favorite podcasts that I enjoy listening to.
At Home With Sally ~ loving encouraging Godly inspiration for moms from the soft spoken Sally Clarkson.
The Big Boo Cast {with Melanie (BigMama) and Sophie (Boo Mama)} ~ these girls just chat about life in general but they sure make me laugh doing it. Love their blogs too.
EntreFamily Podcast ~ Stephanie and her husband Ryan share stories of their own family entrepreneur adventurers and those of other families as well. We don’t have a family business but I still find it interesting to listen to.
Brilliant Business Moms ~ interviews with mom entrepreneurs who are succeeding in online business while spending time with their families.
Happier with Gretchen Rubin ~ practical tips on living a happier life and developing good habits.
Bonus organizing podcasts:
The Joy of Organizing ~ organizing tips to help you live your best life.
Keeping You Organized ~ interviews with Professional Organizers providing you with organizing tips, advice, and behind-the-scenes stories.
Hope that helps as you go into your weekend and need to get those chores and organizing to-do’s done! Please share your favorite podcast in the comments below, I’m always looking for new ones to listen to.
Happy organizing!

I’m a bit distracted due to binge watching NCIS on Netflix (perfect companion to keep me company while folding laundry, doing dishes and cooking), but here’s a few that I have on my podcast list: “You’ve Got This” by Kathi Lipp; “The Happy Home” by Arlene Pelicane; “Power of Moms Radio”; “This Is Your Life” with Michael Hyatt.
