The following is a guest post from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project.
Woven baskets have to be one of my favorite organizing products. I love the look they give, the texture, and how they can hide unattractive elements in my home. So, I use a variety of shapes and sizes to conceal and add character in almost every room.
Remote Controls
I do not know about y’all but we play “Find the Remote” a lot in my house. It is a very frustrating game too. My son’s new favorite thing to do is to take the remotes, chew on them, or attempt to take the buttons off of the front. He is only 2-years-old. So, I have purchased baskets to hide our remotes in our bedrooms and living room.
It keeps them all in one place and conceals them as well. Now, when you walk into our living room, you do not see random remotes lying all over the place.
DVDs
DVDs in my household have a tendency to end up all over the place, like the remote controls. It even seems like my kids like to use them as toys, until I catch them. So, I try to hide them from my little ones. The DVD box sets stay in a basket that sits in one of my entertainment center cabinets .
Gift Wrapping Supplies
It has taken me a long time to find a storage solution that works for my gift wrapping goodies. My wrapping paper is stored in my office closet, but I have all of my tissue paper, twine, and small gift boxes in a large woven basket that sits on the bottom shelf of my office bookcase. It is accessible, but hidden at the same time.
Candles
I am a huge candle and Scentsy fan. I love the Bath and Body Works 3-wick candles and I always stock up on them. The same goes for Scentsy bars. I have a whole basket full of them.
To keep them accessible, but out of the reach of my kiddos, I store them in two small baskets that sit in one of the top cabinets of my entertainment center.
Clothes “Holding” Basket
This is totally for my husband. I kept noticing he had a pile of clothes in the corner of our bedroom. I would ask him if they were dirty and he would tell me that they were clothes he planned on wearing again. Several times these clothes ended up in the washing machine because I thought they were dirty and he forgot to put them in the laundry basket. Well, they were actually clothes he needed ASAP. Oops!
I do not like clean clothes laying on the ground. Plus, if they are laying on the ground, I can’t tell if they are clean or dirty, so I placed what I call a clothes holding basket in his designated clothes spot for these items. So far, it is working great.
Toilettries
I have a basket full of toiletry type items that I do not use often in my bathroom storage cabinet. The cabinet has a glass door, so if I did not contain all of these items in a basket, then it would look like a complete mess.
Planner Supplies
I am addicted to planner supplies. I have tons of bags, stamps, stickers, etc that I use for my planner. I have always been a planner, but recently, I have really enjoyed decorating my planner and buying different accessory cases.
I keep the extra cases in a woven basket that sits on one of my office bookcase shelves.
So, how do you use woven baskets to organize in your home?
My name is Kristin and I am a middle school career education teacher by day and a mommy/wife/blogger by night. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have two loving children. We recently made a life-changing move to Arkansas, so our new house is always under construction. I get excitement out of finding new creative, functional, and cute ways to organize things! I also enjoy writing and documenting life as it happens. So, I put these loves together and created The Gold Project. With the help of my husband, I am attempting to turn our house into a home. So, check out this special place of mine and take this journey with me!

My life has been forever changed. My husband does the same thing with clothes that he’s planning to wear again – they end up in the floor exactly where you can see them all the way down the hall.. He’s getting a holding basket this weekend. Thank you! 🙂

Yay!!! So glad I could help you.

I think the clothes suggestion is a great idea! Right now, I hang the clothes I will wear again on the back of my door, but again – the Husband just piles everything on the floor…

I also use baskets throughout our home, but I’m definitely borrowing the clothes “holding” basket. My hubby travels a lot and his side of the bed is where he stages his “go” bags. I always find at least a pair of pants, belt included, on the floor or on the bed and can’t tell if it’s a “to be worn at least once more”, “not dirty at all”, or “was going to be packed but didn’t make the cut after all”… I guess it’s a gender specific trait.

Love this. Woven baskets are my go to for organizing challenging areas in my home, too. They are so functional and go with everything. And, with a 3 yo in the house, they are tough and practical, too.
Great post, Kristin!
