Happy First Day of Spring Org Junkie readers! I am so happy to be here with you today. Lately I have been a busy bee around my house, tackling both big and small organizing projects .Now that winter is gone, it is time to renew and refresh! One strategy that I find really helps me is to break down my organizing goals into smaller 30-40 minute projects so I don’t feel so overwhelmed. This method also allows me to schedule one small goal per day and concentrate on each area better without having the distraction of feeling pressured to get BIG jobs done in very little time. One area I scheduled to tackle this week was my baking supplies. I love baking and I bake often, so over time, my baking supplies have become a bit of a mess. Let me share some of my tips for getting baking supplies organized, which help saves you time & frustration when baking something sweet for your family.
1. Set up a BAKING ZONE in the kitchen where baking equipment and supplies are kept together. This makes for easy reach for everything needed while baking and less steps looking for or retrieving things from around the kitchen.
Notice how I have everything I need within easy reach of this baking zone? I have a very small kitchen and this cozy corner seemed like the ideal place to set up the baking area. I have had a baking zone in every kitchen of every house I have lived and it is a ‘must’ for me. Without a baking zone, I probably would not bake as much as I do because I would not want to have to assemble different equipment and supplies from other areas of the kitchen. If you would like to bake more, but are not sure what is holding you back, have a look at the organization of the kitchen. Maybe placing baking things together in one area is all you need to inspire you to tackle that delicious-looking cookie recipe.
2. Baking measures and equipment need to be TOGETHER and EASILY ACCESSIBLE. I have a small drawer in my kitchen where I keep everything needed for mixing recipe ingredients. All of these things live right where I need them and make everything from measuring ingredients, to scraping or scooping dough, a breeze.
3. CONTAINERIZE like items together in some way {or drawers if you have them} so you don’t have an avalanche of items to go through or fall down on you when you are looking for those cute cupcake liners or jello pudding. I purchased these inexpensive plastic boxes for baking supplies that are kept in the pantry. I have organized them so that like items are kept together and it works perfectly.
For instance, I keep Jello puddings and chipits in this box
And I have a box completely devoted to cupcake liners, because, well you know, you can never have too many.
I find having a system and a place for everything in the baking zone really helps me to take on baking projects quickly and easily. I know that I can easily mix up a cookie recipe or scones in 10 minutes because everything needed is all together in one place and I don’t even have to think about it. So, now that I have shared how easy it is for me to keep my baking mojo going, how about some chocolate chip cookies?

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter!

I like the containers for small baking supplies… they seem to take over our pantry space at times. And, since we don’t bake very often, they’re often a nuisance to me. Thanks!

Glad to know that my methods line up pretty well with someone with skills! Your tip on doing just one discrete 30-40 minute task at a time is such a great idea. How many times have I found myself with a pile of halfway organized stuff on the counters (or elsewhere) and it’s time to cook dinner! Thanks! PS I totally agree about not being able to have too many cupcake liners 🙂

Angie, this looks great. I had lost track of baking in my life as my family grew up. Now that I have grand-babies, baking is coming back! I am going to need to do something to organize my stuff!

Where did you get the baking supply containers? Those would work great with the height of our shelving!

These are shoe box type bins that can usually be bought in sets of 5 or something like that from places like Walmart and Target.
