I finally have another video up. I kept putting it off because I use a Flip camera (and the Flipshare software that comes with it for editing) and unfortunately this software is no longer compatible with youtube which makes it difficult to edit and upload videos now. I figured out a bit of a work around using Windows Movie Maker but it takes forever to upload and the video is grainy (the original is not like that). If anyone has any tips for me on which editing software and uploading tools to use please please let me know. I have an iPhone and a digital camera with video which are probably better options but what software to use? It needs to be super user friendly because I can never figure these things out and then I get spazzy which is really not pretty at all 🙂
Anyway today I’m talking about how we need to evolve our systems for everything we buy and bring into the house. If you just try to shove something new into an existing system you’ll quickly see it doesn’t always work. That’s when we can get into clutter trouble.
Video highlights (and I say that loosely!):
- clutter is anything we don’t love or use OR have the room to store
- our systems needs to evolve with each thing that comes into our homes (or when we have life changes in general)
- evolving systems and bins are a good thing – don’t be afraid of change (I actually didn’t say that in the video but I totally should have..ha!)
- you’d be amazed at what you can do in a short amount of time – give it a try in a quick 5 or 10 minutes
- Remember to ask yourself: do I have the space to store this, can I find the space to store this, will I find the space to store this and do I have the time or energy to do it???
That’s about it…and all under 6 minutes and 18 seconds! Whoot, aren’t you so proud of me!
Again I apologize for the quality. Hopefully that will not happen next time!
Which one area is bugging you the most in your home right now? What item(s) do you need to find a home for?
If you are having trouble seeing the video, you can find it here.

This is great. I think struggle with is knowing when to evolve.
I spend a day organizing the kitchen and a year later I have to rethink it because I miss the cues that aspects are not working with changes in schedule and use.
What cues should I look for?

I’m constantly rethinking my spaces every single time I get something new. Every single thing in your house needs a home. Pay attention to stuff collecting on surfaces or being stuffed into cupboards….that’s a pretty good sign it’s time for a change 🙂

With iPhone ios6, you can upload your videos to YouTube directly from your phone 🙂
Laura says
Can you edit them first?
Rebecca says
You can trim them (cut off the beginning or end), but if you wanted to splice, add text or music you’d need another app. I’m sure they exist, but I don’t use them, so that’s as far as my expertise will take you 🙁

Oh dear, my dining room table is the catch all for mail and things I need,,,,,,um mostly papers. i am much better at it than last year. I manage to get it completely under control then go backwards. Yes 10 min will clear it of less. And I bought 4 new dinner plates last month, to go with my dinner plates I have. Some of the older ones are wearing so am still using them. I put the new plates in a cabinet and I know where they are. I am gonna pull them out and use them…..soon. I know, bad to buy something for later, but the price was right and …..oh dear me. I know. I’m procrastinating putting them into use now. Thanks for the encouragement and making alot of sense. Hugs!

Love the video! You are so right. Things can be re-used and re-purposed or get rid of it. Evolving and reassessing is an ongoing thing.. Thanks

School papers are my nemesis right now. I don’t NEED to keep them forever, but I need them for a few days to remind me what’s coming up. I think I really need to start putting the info on the calendar (like Thursday homecoming button sales – send money with the kid) as soon as I get the paper so I can throw out the paper. I also need to get more Nandy Memo Holders (http://nandymemoholder.com/) to hold the things like lunch calendars that need to hang out a bit longer. Also my fridge…I want to tear everything off of it and make it clean and organized..I don’t know if I’ll win that one.

My bedroom floor in front of my dresser has turned into a dumping spot. I know I need to clear it out. I’ve been tackling other organizing projects that are more visible to people that come into my house. A lot of the stuff is items for ebay and craft projects, all of which I have every intention of doing. Out of sight, out of mind. I don’t spend a lot of time in my bedroom so I keep forgetting about that pile of stuff! lol

Your video is clear as a bell on my iPhone! And again, would you like to come stay with me awhile? 🙂

Laura, my son-in-law is a filmmaker and I’m sure he would have some suggestions for you regarding video and editing. (Or, he might just talk over your head!) If you’d like me to put you in contact with him, send me a private email and I’ll see what I can do; it looks like you’ll be able to see my email even though it’s not published in the comments. BTW, the video looks fine on my computer.

My systems of organization in my home are constantly changing too….some stay, as they are true keepers that just *work* for us…but often, I am changing how I store things to new and better ways and ideas! 🙂 I love organizing and re-organizing! I just love the whole process! 🙂
Hope you are enjoying your week Laura!
