Is your home tight on space? One very practical solution that can literally double your closet storage space is to simply add a closet organizer to them. However all those Pinterest images floating around of custom made closet organizers can leave us shaking in our flip flops at what the cost might be.
I had a company contact me once wanting to install a high end closet system in my bedroom closet in exchange for a review. I asked them what something like that would cost and was told somewhere between $5000.00 and $7000.00. Um what? That’s much too extravagant for my taste. There was no way I was going to accept product for review for something that I would never go out and purchase myself. So I declined and am not sorry I did. My inexpensive closet organizing system is working out just fine thank you.
Closet organizers of that caliber, while beautiful and drool worthy in all the magazines, just aren’t affordable for most. Today I’ve got 6 options to share with you that range from $50.00 up to $180.00 and are from a variety of stores. They will help you maximize your closet space without costing you a fortune to do so.
These are just a few of the options out there for inexpensive closet organizers. Once you start looking around you’ll notice that there really are a number of inexpensive options available to you and that means your poor closets don’t have to be naked anymore! 🙂
Please know that I am not affiliated with any of these companies or products.

Thanks for not reviewing the $5000 closet organizer Laura! (From all of us who could never afford one!) I love the ideas you shared and they are more realistic for most people’s budgets. We’ve always used pretty basic ones from Home Depot or Walmart & they are holding up just fine.

Not this weekend, but soon. Since we moved, we need to determine what to do with the Rubbermaid closet system components that we purchased from Lowes. My son’s closet is quite a bit different from our old house, so we need to make a plan before starting to install it. Hopefully we can complete it by the end of the summer.

When we moved into our new home, I was so happy to see all the closets had a Rubbermaid closet system installed.
Now, 4 years later, I am going to start tweaking the design to fit our life and mess. In fact, I start today with the one in the guest bedroom that serves not only for our guest but for general storage for us as well.

Thank you for this. I recently wandered over to our local hardware store closet organizer section and realized we could do something like this in each girls’ closet and better maximize their space. Thanks for not getting the outrageous $5000 closet and also for all these great options for our closets.

No way! I love how easy that is! My closet just has the shelf at the top with a rod….yawn. Borrrriiiiing! Thanks for showing this! I’m going to look into it for sure!

Thanks for the tips! Definitely going to invest in that last one, now that we’ve moved and have NO closets, we need to make the best of the TWO that we have!

What an awesome post! I have an old home that has very wide closets and used to have sliding doors (I removed them). It has those areas on the sides you can’t get too. I’ve looked everywhere for good closet systems but overlooked Walmart which is crazy because the corporate office is right in my back yard! Thanks again for drawing my attention to this!

The Rubbermaid system looks good to me. I think we need a couple of those in our house! Gee, I wonder if I could get Rubbermaid to let me review it on my blog? Thanks for your tips, as always, Laura. Have a good weekend!

These are great ideas. I have trouble picturing how these things will look all assembled when I am at the big stores checking them all out.
We really really need to do something – the long pole with the single long shelf on top is just asking for clutter. And anytime we go to get something from up on top, half of it comes down on your head.
I really like the look of the Black and Decker one with the shelving all in the middle. I might give that a try.

what if these are still too expensive? Are there cheaper one’s?
Laura says
I think $50 is probably your cheapest bet, but you could always watch for a sale.

I purchased a basic one from Walmart for my daughter then slowly added to it. You can buy them all together or in sections! This worked great for me!

I used a shelving unit in the back of my closet with cute baskets and some plastic drawers. Bought and drawers and Home Depot and the baskets at Target but you can get all of it wherever they are on sale. Works for me!

Do you have any suggestions for closets that have 2 rods (top and bottom) already installed?
Alissa says
Love this article!! We just moved into our new house and we have 4! blank closets! We were able to do the shoe closet, but the master bedroom walk in is a MESS!! We got a quote for a fancy system and it was almost 2k! What the WHAT!?! I will only be in the house for 3 years and I would like a pantry more than a 2K closet! I will be showing my husband this post so it can help us pick a closet system.

My closet currently stores my clothing as well as my coats (no coat closet in my small house) and sewing supplies (or they’d have to go in the attic~ Ugh!)
I also have a small set of shelves tucked in for back-up storage. .. not a good alternative, but we are preppers and my linen closet is too small for more than the very basic supplies. Somehow I have to (SOON) make this mess into a closet large enough for the clothing and shoes of two adults (it is a master bedroom closet), but also find space for all the other items mentioned…
I am thinking I will empty the closet (onto my bed?) then start over… … …
Laura says
Yes, yes, yes! That is exactly the way to do it! 🙂
