Before I announce January’s Round-Up winner I just wanted to remind everyone that this month we’ll be working on getting our recipes organized. I love love trying new recipes so it doesn’t take long for my recipe piles to start accumulating and getting out of hand. I know it’s bad when I start printing off recipes for a second time because I can’t or can’t be bothered to find it in the stack from the first time I printed it off. Oops. Please don’t send me hate mail about the trees I’m killing. I do often use my laptop in the kitchen to follow a new recipe, one I’m making for the first time, but if it’s a keeper I like to print it off for future use which really does me no good at all if I CAN’T FIND IT! Sheesh.
Anyway I think I’ve figured out why my system isn’t working for me and I’ll post on that soon but for today I’d like to invite any of you that have posted about a recipe system on your blog that does work to email me that link for a future link~tastic post I’m putting together. I can’t promise I’ll use them all but I’d really like to feature a good selection of the various methods of recipe organization.
So a winner, I need to announce a winner before I forget. I just finished going through each of the posts from January and I’m so excited for all you ladies who got some serious filing done. Yay! I randomly chose one lucky winner from the list of participants and that person is #14:
Sparkette from Our Lil Kilowatts!
Sparkette will be receiving the Scanalog software to further help her organize all her bits of paper!
Congratulations!!

I have an expandable file with all my printed recipes and recipe cut outs from magazine etc sorted into different topics. I also have a list of favorites from my cookbooks and a list of recipes I’d like to try from my cook books. That way all I have to do when it gets to be about cooking time is look pick one depending on what protein I’m using and go from there! It’s all in one place, either hand written, typed, or with directions on how to find the actual recipe. Works like a charm for me.
Hope that helps. =D

I don’t have a before and after pictures, just an after but I do tell what I did. This reall works for me.

I look forward to reading the suggestions. This is an area I seriously need help in. Sometimes I get so frustrated trying to find a recipe in the pile. Usually, it’s something I’ve fixed a 100 times. I’m in the middle of mixing it up, I can’t remember what temp the oven needs to be set at. Then the digging and frustration starts.

So funny…I do the exact same thing. Printing out recipes twice, bringing my laptop into the kitchen. I look forward to this series!

I have a 3 ring binder with dividers that I put all my recipes in. It is getting out of hand & I print them & then they get lost in the mix. So I have begun taking 1 from the front of each category & am trying them weekly. If everyone likes it, it goes in the back of the category, if not, trash it!

I didn’t do the January challenge, but I’m definitely excited about this one! Our recipe books are in two different kitchen cabinets and it’s driving me crazy!

Sorry I totally peetered out from participating in this challenge. We need an office overhaul too. Recipes seems more manageable to me, and I DO need help in this area.

I recently started using Google Documents for my recipes. That way, I can get them from any computer. For older recipes not on or from the computer, I scan them in and then save them in Documents. I have folders set up like Dinner, salads, desserts, etc.

Congrats!
Perfect timing on the recipes!
I was just thinking yesterday that I HAVE to get mine organized!
This will give me a good push!

My recipes are …well a mess. I am looking forward to your future post and all the suggestions. I have some time off so I think I’ll work on my files since I missed that one! Thanks for the great tips…I LOVE your website!

I love reading your website! I missed out on getting my files organized but got some great tips for doing so (and it is sorely needed – they’re all in boxes and not really sorted, in some cases). So I will have to get to that. But I need to do recipes, too. So maybe I can join in this month!
I haven’t tried this system myself, but read somewhere how someone had a gmail account (free, web-based) set up for recipes they received from online sources. They would not give this email out to anyone but would send any recipes they want to try to this account. Or other cooking tips, etc. It was ONLY used for this purpose (not for any other types of emails). And could be categorized within that by types of dishes or tips or however you want. I was thinking to maybe use this for recipes to try to keep them separate from the keepers but still somewhat organized… without all the extra paper or clutter on my PC but there are lots of options.

Where did the month of January go? I got into this roundup too late so I’m still working on weeding through paper clutter and purging and organizing. DH’s closet system will be installed next week so I’m hoping that some of this stuff can go back in there or I can shift some stuff from my closet to his, but don’t tell him! Organized one side of the linen closet last night after he pitched a fit because he couldn’t find a Dobie Pad. Of course, in looking for one for him, a bunch of towels, etc. came tumbling down so I figured I might as well tackle the entire closet. It looks so nice, wished it would stay that way.

I use MasterCook to organize my recipes. I have set up cookbooks for my favorites (tried and true), recipes to try, Weight Watchers, etc. One great feature is I can cut and paste from internet recipes!

well, i find that recipes go in phases for me. right now it’s the crepe phase. so i reserved one upper kitchen cabinet door and inside the door (where no one can see) i tape the recipes of the hour so i don’t have to go looking for them. this is also useful for recipes i really want to try but know that i’ll forget about if i put them away.
for the rest, i use a binder much like you blogged about before, but i really love having this fingertip resource for some.

Sorry I can’t help you with this mine are a disaster. I did just start a notebook with recipes of things I make often in hopes that I will be able to give each of my kids one someday. That’s as far as I have gotten though. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!!

Sooo excited!!! (seriously, no sarcasm!)

I use a binder. I recently blogged about this here is the link:
http://adamandkrisi.blogspot.com/2009/01/tackle-it-tuesday-update.html
It is at the bottom (mainly just pictures) but I plan on doing a seperate post for this month and work on organizing my computerized ones.
The binder now has mainly the tried and true recipes.
WHat I have been doing lately is e-mailing my phone the recipe I want to try (wastes NO paper) if it is good then I save it to tried and true in the computer — if I then go back and use it again then I print and it will go in the binder. I am hoping this will help keep the clutter of unused recipes out of the binder!

Just wanted to say thanks again! 🙂
