just switch to Firefox!
I have heard oh so many times that my site loads oh so very slowly for some of you. I have no idea why that is and neither does my designer but it does make me oh so very sad when you are sad. This cannot be! So today I have some good news….after extensive research (well not really but that sure sounded good didn’t it) I have come to the conclusion that those using the Firefox browser are not having nearly as many problems. I switched over myself back when I got my fancy new digs and I love it as my browser of choice. It’s free to switch over and all your favorites transfer over as well which was really beneficial in my case because I have oh say 600 bookmarked favorites. Did you just gasp? Don’t be alarmed they are all organized into nice little folders that make me giggle with glee whenever I look at them 🙂
Now I should also tell you that I did go back to using Bloglines because I couldn’t handle the pressure anymore. Awhile ago in a fit of rebellion I took a stand and said “I’m not gonna take it anymore” but then I stayed awake nights thinking I was missing out on all sorts of bloggy wonderfulness and I just hate being the out of the loop nerd in the corner with her finger up her nose. Just kidding I never sit in the corner. So it’s back to Bloglines for me with 97 feeds and just two categories, “Daily Reads” and “Organizing Blogs”. I now bookmark “New Blogs to Review” into my favorites and only move them to Bloglines when they become keepers.
I happen to know though (because my site meter tells me so and not because I’m extraordinaryly clever) that many of you prefer Google Reader instead of Bloglines and again I feel like I might be missing out. Should I switch? Fill me in on what I’m missing because I want to be hip with the crowd and be down with it, which I realize is not entirely ever possible but you can’t blame a girl for trying.
I’d hoped to come back later to talk about our dining rooms but in all matters of importance Dancing with the Stars premieres TONIGHT and oh heavens to betsy I am having trouble thinking about anything else. Is anyone else curious about how a deaf girl will be able to dance without hearing the music? Fascinating stuff!
Oh and if you don’t think any of that was exciting wait till you see all the pdf files that I’m longing to share with you. Only, because of the whole I’m not clever thing, it’s turning into quite an ordeal and well it will be coming I’m just not sure when.
Now if that doesn’t make you want to get Firefox and hang around in anticipation I don’t know what will 🙂

You load just fine with the Safari browser too! Google Reader is so easy for catching up on blogs. I’ve never used bloglines though.
Barbara says
If you don’t use it already you should consider del.icio.us
I have 1652 bookmarks currently and I love that I can tag them with multiple words so I can find them easier. I always had to try to figure out where I filed a site that would fit into multiple categories before. And I don’t have to worry about sharing between work and home, and if I’m at a friends house and mention a great site for x or y, I can go look up the website on del.icio.us to share with them.
My bookmarks in my browser are empty now and I don’t have to worry about backing them up often in case my computer crashes.
I use Google Reader, I love it, but I’ve been using it since it was in Google labs and have never tried anything else, so I can’t really compare.
Mrs. Wilson says
Oh yes, Firefox is SO MUCH BETTER! I first switched specifically so I could view your blog better! How about that! But, I love love love it now that I use it and will NEVER EVER EVER go back to using Microsoft Internet Explorer!
steph's mommy brain says
I use firefox and you load just fine for me. I chose Google Reader because I already use blogger and gmail and liked having everything together. I haven’t played with it much and probably am not using it to it’s fullest capacity but it works for me now. = )
Becky@BoysRuleMyLife says
Love firefox!
I got rid of my bloglines because I was spending way to much time reading blogs! I’ve never checked out Google Reader, so I’m no help there.
Looking forward to the pdf files!!!
Laura says
Becky I know what you mean, it’s so easy to get sucked in. I really have to watch it for sure. Another downfall with Bloglines is I think I comment less unfortunately.
DebiP says
firefox and bloglines…that is my way too
Lisa says
Firefox rocks! We HAD to switch because the load time for EVERYTHING was excessive and very annoying! So much better now!
Kristy says
I used to use Bloglines, but switched to Google Reader because I like the interface better. To be honest, I don’t even remember what prompted the switch, but I’m certainly happt with it. One benefit I like – I use iGoogle as my homepage, and can view new blogs there, as well as in the full Google Reader interface.
Richelle F says
I use firefox and bloglines. I have wondered if Google reader is better than bloglines, but haven’t checked it out. I’ll have to see what people say here!
Dawn says
I am going to have to try firefox now that I know it’s not just my computer that loads your site up. I always thought it was just me because I don’t have a problem loading it up on my husband’s or my mom’s computers.
Debi says
I just started using google reader, and I love it…but then I never used anything else, so I’m really no help at all, am I?
But I couldn’t agree with you more about Firefox. I switched from Safari quite a while back, and it is just so much better in so many ways!
Sheri says
I’m a firefox addict! I found it by accident and rarely ever use IE anymore…the nice thing is that many sites are making sure they’re firefox compatible now – that’s a sure sign that it’s catching on.
I also love Google Reader, but I’ve never used anything else, so I don’t have anything to compare it to.
Diana says
I use Firefox & Google Reader. Most important to me is being able to access my daily reads offline and both of these offer those services. Plus they are both super easy to use and keep neat. =)
K says
Gee- I thought it was just me. I have 3 browsers to choose from. On my Firefox I have the ‘Firefox page load timer’ and it said it took 274.750 seconds which is roughly 4 and a half minutes to load your site. And I have visited before so it should be faster than if I had never been to your site before. I do subscribe to your rss feed but you don’t provide full feeds so I have to choose whether I want to invest that time for each link I click or not to read each article. Which is a shame because I really enjoy your site.
🙁
Barbara says
I switched from bloglines to googlereader and I love google. I really wish you would publish full feeds though.
Michele J. says
I just tried your site with Firefox and the difference is amazing! I always had so much trouble with internet explorer. Thanks for the tip!
Kim N says
Yes to Firefox! I have been using it for years and would never go back to internet explorer. I also use bloglines, but try to limit the blogs I follow to 30. I think I will try googlereader to see how they compare.
Michelle says
Hi Laura.I’m not having troubles now..People switch to firefox…there that’s said..I have both blogrolling and google reader.. like both *if only I could remember to look in both everyday!!!!
Jason says
I use Firefox and Google Reader and like Kristy switched from Bloglines years ago, because the GReader interface is just so much better. It was horrible, mind you, when it first came out, but they really improved it.
I come to your site only occasionally, but I’ve always found it loads very quickly. Never a problem.
Keep up the great posts!
chupieandjsmama says
Yes girl, I read you on bloglines, but if I comment, it’s on Firefox. IE just loads too slowly for me. If I forget and load on IE I walk away and organize something while it pulls up your site 🙂
Kansas A says
Firefox and Google Reader here! IE has way too many bugs and errors for me! I used to use Bloglines but switched over to Google quite sometime ago, was actually using both for awhile but dropped Bloglines because Google is so much easier to use. I like that you can tag and star, and the search feature is way cool! You can import all your feeds from Bloglines when you switch so that made it easy too.
Kim says
I’m a google reader… I agree with those that said they use blogger and gmail. I also agree you need to get on delicious! I learned that the hard way with two computer crashes. 🙂
Trish says
Firefox/Google Reader user here. Firefox for almost a year now and your site loads very quickly. Google Reader just because I use Gmail and Blogger and it was easiest.
Can I add another vote for a full feed? It does not decrease my likelihood of commenting, if that’s a concern.
Marilyn says
Barbara, thank you for suggesting de.li.ci.ous (maybe dotted in the wrong place). I have been wondering if I should sign up for that or not. Foxfire did not work good (or is it well) on my computer. What exactly is a blogline?
Thanks
Meshellyn says
I use explorer dispite my husbands disapproval, he’s a diehard Firefox kinda guy 🙂
Anyways, your site seemed to take forever (less than a minute) on our 7 year old Gateway with DSL. Now that we bought a new laptop, still with DSL, it loads immediately. I think it was our computer obviously. I do remember the days of sitting impatiently though to find out what was new in the world of organization. Glad those days are over!
Laura says
Marilyn, bloglines.com is a service that allows you to add the feed of the blogs you love so that you can be notified of new posts and read them right through the reader. It does save a lot of time. I don’t think I’ve explained it very well though, sorry.
Penny says
I’ve used Firefox ever since I started doing web work… IE is just too clunky. The only time I sometimes have a problem is with some online shopping carts and forms.
I maintain Bloglines and Google Reader. I use Google reader at home where my home page is iGoogle. At work, I use Bloglines because I don’t like leaving iGoogle logged in at work. The differences are fairly minor IMO but I tend to prefer Google reader because it picks up the feeds quicker.
Alicia says
Funny story. My husband is also a die hard Firefox guy, and when I got my new computer about a month ago he “offered” to install it for me. I said no because this is my baby, and I wanted to keep it that way. I’ve always wondered why your blog loads slowly (brand new computer, cable modem0, but chalked it up to “lots of cool stuff to load”. I’m so happy you told us about this. My husband has used Firefox for years and that wasn’t enough for me, but 1 post about being able to load your site quicker and I downloaded it in a second. I had to confess it to my hubby last night, and he took it graciously. He’s just happy I’m using Firefox (he SO hates IE). I don’t have any problem loading now. Can’t believe what a difference it’s made!
As a google reader girl, I don’t know how it compares to anything else, but it’s great to hear what people have to say. Thank you for this post!
Tina says
Firefox rocks! Love it! There are only two websites I’ve found so far that I have to use Explorer for–everything else works just fine!
As for bloglines and google, not sure what you are talking about. I found your website thru another blog and have it as a favorite.
Lindsay says
First off I am a computer person.. I have used FF (FireFox) since before it was “cool”..LOL It is in my humble opinion a far superior browser w/ less security vulnerabilities (I believe Microsoft calls them “features” in IE).
I am also a google reader user and LOVE it.. if you have ever used gmail you will def. love google reader.
Veggiemomof2 says
Google Reader is all I’ve ever used, so I cannot tell you what’s different, but I learned how to use it quickly, so it’s defintely an easy program.
I d/l Firefox when someone recommended trying it on the coupon sites that IE wouldn’t print properly. While playing with it one day, I thought I’d try your site w/it because I’d abandoned coming here except to sign in on Menu Plan Monday. I have no idea why, but I have no problems viewing your site now. I’m thinking IE was too busy trying to block all your ads & such!
I’m SO glad to be back! Yours is the 1st blog I read & it’s what got me into the blogasphere!
Laura says
Firefox is great. That is what I use. Mainly because my husband is a computer programmer and hates IE so he has me using Firefox. Unfortunately, my bookmarks are a mess. I can never find anything. I started to make up folders and put new websites in the folders but my old stuff really needs to be looked at and moved to the correct folders. Just do not have the time. I also use google reader. I have it sorted by many things though. Organizing, digital freebies, recipes, family, triplets, crafts, CT blogs. If I have time I read all of them but when I do not have the time I will check my favorites first. Happy Blogging.

Laura,
I need some major help. I would just e-mail you, but it won’t let me. Sorry. Anyway, my problem is I only have a 2 bedroom condo, and my son (3) and daughter (1) share a bedroom. They are great together, but they only have half a closet (my husband and my clothes we never wear are in the other half) and then they also have a 4 drawer dresser. I am having problems getting all their clothes organized and neat and tidy. Can you please help me? Give me some advice or anything! If you would like to e-mail me or just post something, that would be great! Thanks! [email protected]

I just wanted to say Laura I don’t have any problems and I’m on dial up..lol we don’t even have cable were I’m from..Now is that country or what..

I switched to Fire Fox a few months back. and never looked back!! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!
It took some time to adjust to bookmarking. I’m used to it always there, not having to use a drop-down menu.
Still LOVE it more than IE!!
Jenny says
With the old computer I could only use firefox to read your blog, and to upload photos on my blog. With the new computer I haven’t had a problem with either!
sandra says
I use Netscape and Bloglines, I wonder if I should switch to google reader too???
ter says
Hey!
I know nothing about firefox. I know my computer has slow memory but I might have to find out more about firefox, I’ve been hearing more and more about it lately.
I just recently opened a bloglines account but I havent’ figured out how to use it. I really love reading blogs but I need to save time and I heard that was one way to go, but I just need to learn how to use it. or google reader, I’ve heard of that too but I don’t know anything about it really.
ter says
oh and as for your question Re: how a deaf girl dances?
For one, she will “feel” the beat (via vibration). Also, because it is a routine, she will remember it by steps, not by beat or tune. It’s not like she’s free-styling it.
Megan @ Disorder2Ord says
I need a cocktail before I start reading all your comments… you go girl! I love Firefox!
P.S. You have been tagged make sure to check it out… 😀

I was laughing at you and your 600 faves and how you have them all neatly organized. I do that too! But did you know that only 1% of people actually organize their bookmarks?! I know I am a geek for knowing that! 🙂
Marcia Francois says
As you know, I’m a HUGE google reader fan – it is just prettier to look at and easy-peasy to use for a technophobe like me 🙂
Stephanie says
Your site has always loaded fine for me- I use firefox on my mac.
As for readers, I briefly used google reader, but unfaithfully, and then when I decided to take the leap to using a reader regularly, switched over to bloglines (for no real reason in particular). I love it, and all my neat little folders of different types of blogs.
Someone above said google reader is prettier, but I don’t know, bloglines is just practical. It works for me.
And I organize my bookmarks, too! Blog, homemaking, health sites, homeschooling, gardening, etc! Makes me happy. 🙂
Angie says
Yep. Mozilla is what works for me!
Annie says
definitely a firefox and google reader girl here…. switched to firefox years ago… LOVE IT! and dropped bloglines in the summer for google reader… just so so so much easier to use and great interface.
Meg says
WOW! What a difference! I can actually get your whole site to load. Before, it would take ten mins just to get your one entry from the blog feeder and often, the advertising was right down the middle so I couldn’t read it anyway. So very frustrating! Hope this continues to work.
Heidi says
Here’s another vote for Firefox, Google Reader, and Del.icio.us!
I love Firefox and can’t stand Internet Explorer. I’m trying to get away from Microsoft completely.
I haven’t tried Bloglines, but Google Reader does what I need, simply and easily.
And Delicious is just the best! I no longer waste time trying to decide what folder a bookmark should go in. I just tag it with everything that seems relevant, and get on with my life. I had about 1000 bookmarks when I imported them to Delicious, and there might be twice that many now. They’re all very easy to find.
Carrie says
omg what a difference!! I finally downloaded firefox and am able to see your page so much faster. THank you!!!!!! It has helped with another blog I read too…no more snippets from my google reader. 🙂
