For the past several days I’ve been working on a few projects:
- rearranged baby’s room
- organized kids school stuff
- organized outside underneath our deck
- organized serving dish cupboard
- organized ebay closet (stuff to sell)
Still to do:
- videotape belongings for insurance purposes
- finish writing our will
Hopefully I’ll get to these last two soon. You’ll notice that they don’t have anything to do with organizing and so I’ve been putting them off. I’m not looking forward to them but I know they must be done. This might hold me accountable…..maybe. The way I feel about these last two projects is how I’m sure a lot of people feel about organizing. I’m going to start small and try to do a little bit everyday…..the same advice I would give to anyone considering tackling an organizing project. If we look at the big picture it can be completely overwhelming….so if we try to break it down to more manageable tasks the feeling of accomplishment will keep us going. For instance, for me it will mean videotaping one room a day. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.
But for now, my burning question though is this. What to do with a crystal bowl that was a wedding gift, clearly very expensive but not used in eleven years!? Too fragile and heavy to sell on ebay….garage sale is over….I can’t imagine any of my friends wanting it……I guess that leaves the thirft store. This bowl and another were found in the very back of my serving dish cupboard and if I’m to follow my own “not used in one year” rule they need to go away! Fast! Yes even I can experience some guilt when deciding to get rid of something valuable but I’ll get over it as soon as they leave my hands…..whew….I’m feeling lighter already….getting the guilt burden off my back….ahhh the euphoria!

We’re in the middle of taking pictures of our valuables and the serial numbers, etc. It’s a big job.
We also have to ammend our will, which is another pain in the butt. Oh well, fortunately we don’t know when we are going to die, so I better get prepared for the inevitable.
This afternoon I pulled out all of our stuff from the dining area storage area and am arranging everything!!!
Have to hurry, cuz we’re going fishing in 1 hour!!

I too hate doing it… don’t mind cleaning up!! oh yeah and eating. We need to do the will/ insurance stuff too. I started but have yet to finish….. so many other things to do and organize!!
Re gift the bowl?? Or give it back… my mom hates when I do that but its either give it back to her… she bought it she liked it I didn’t so she can use it… or turf it and hope she doesn’t find it at sally anns or asks about it!! Mind you i think you can only do that with mothers and maybe family!! Oh well I need your powers to rub off on Dug….he needs to part with LOTS!!!!!!!!!!!

Use the bowl for a fruit bowl or something like that – maybe some potpourri. We got two fruit bowls for gifts over the years. The one is a very nice fruit bowl and the other is too big for the two of us so I put some pot pourri in it and put it on my coffee table.
