Storage Star ~ Packed Activity Bags

One of the reasons I am so addicted to organizing is because of the freedom it allows me to have by being prepared for most things that might be thrown at me.   Of course I can’t possibly predict and be ready for everything but most definitely I can eliminate many stresses simply by taking the necessary steps ahead of time to be ready for whatever comes my way.  It’s an amazing way to avoid last minute disasters and to embrace spontaneous moments which is the case with our Storage Star today.

Jessica from Life As Mom recently did a post about the activity bags she keeps packed and ready to go tucked away in a closet until needed.  I really love this idea and even do this myself because around here the sun comes and goes so quickly it pays to be ready in order to get out and enjoy it.  And believe me nothing is worse than being out for a picnic by the river on a gorgeous day only to be pestered by darn mosquitos.  Keep bug spray packed and ready to go in your picnic bag and no more worries about forgetting it!

Here  are Jessica’s bags all ready for fun.

I like to call it being spontaneously prepared :)  In the summer time I actually keep my beach bag packed and ready to go in the van just in case.  Of course you can use whatever size bag you need for whatever activity you most want to be prepared for.

Jessica makes this task of preparing your bags super easy as well by providing printable bag tags that you can just print off, laminate and attach to your bags for quick and easy packing and repacking.

Head on over to Jessica’s site for the printable tags and step by step instructions.

Thanks Jessica for sharing this with us today, enjoy your Storage Star!!

Storage Star ~ Hobby Basket

Last week you read my sob story about not having a good excuse for another pretty basket.  Well Lori Ann from the lovely blog Simple Makes almost has me convinced that I need to take up knitting just so I can do this:

Now if that isn’t a reason to knit to your heart’s content I don’t know what is :)  Such a beautiful thing!  If all of this stuff was scattered around a living room it would just look like clutter instead of the wonderfully contained goodness that it is.  I think it looks so inviting and don’t think for one minute the whole basket within a basket trick escaped me.  That always gets me weak in the knees!

Besides the clutter factor Lori Ann lists some other reasons why having a hobby basket is such a great idea.  I couldn’t agree more which is why I find her very deserving of this award.  Please be sure to visit her site and read the post that goes with that gorgeous photo above.

Do you know someone deserving of a Storage Star?  Send me an email to nominate them!

PS:  My blog header has been nominated in a Best Mom Blog Header Contest over at Profitable Mommy Blogging.  Well okay I totally nominated myself..lol..but since I didn’t design it I felt it was okay.  I still love the header Shaz designed for me a year and a bit ago and thought she really captured the essence of who I am.  I know I’m not technically a mom blog but I am a mom and I do blog for moms so I guess that counts :)  Anyway after saying all that I’m feeling a little foolish because I don’t have any votes yet so if you are feeling generous maybe you could go on over and say YAY for #26.  If anyone asks just tell them the freak sent you :)

Storage Star – Taking dollar store baskets to the next level with basket liners!

Okay by now you should all know about my sick love of the dollar store basket.  I mean really what’s not to love!  Imagine my surprise when I came across this post over at Fox Downs.  Avlor has taken the dollar store basket to the next level and made, are you ready for this, a fabric basket insert!  A fabric insert to keep the small items from falling to the bottom, something that had been bothering Avlor so she decided to do something about it.  Oh yes she did.  Oh my word, talk about clever and resourceful!  I love clever people, especially ones that show kindness to the dollar store basket.  It’s a beautiful thing.  See for yourself.

It’s fun, it’s functional, it solved a problem and it didn’t cost a lot of money.  It does take a little bit of craftiness though which means my basket liner dreams may never come true but as long as I have that beautiful picture to comfort me I think I’ll be A okay.

More information and instructions are here.  Enjoy your Storage Star Avlor, you deserve it!

To see another example of basket beautifying at it’s finest you must also hop on over to Make and Takes to see what a little ribbon can do.  Now that is what I call fannnnncy!

Updated:  Reader Jessica just sent me this FABULOUS link to another great basket liner idea.  WOW, love the fabric!!

Storage Star ~ Spice Rack Re-purposed

storagestar.jpg

Today’s Storage Star goes to a lovely lady named Kelsey with a lovely blog called Vanilla Joy. I can’t remember how I stumbled across her blog but when I did I discovered this:

Kelsey’s using just an ordinary spice rack for her….office supplies!  Oh how I love creative people! So, so very clever. You can find a list of the items Kelsey keeps in her spice rack here. I can also see this being a great tool for scrapbooking supplies. If anyone out there is currently doing that send me a picture, I live for this stuff!

Well done Kelsey!!
