The one where I redeem myself with Strawberry Rhubarb Pie!

I made a pie.  From scratch.  For the first time.  And it turned out.  I still can’t get over it.

The best part of last week’s cooking disaster is knowing that it just can’t get any worse than that.  Which is comforting to me actually, knowing that I could try making anything now and not have to worry about it messing up as bad at that.  So I think it’s important that I take a moment to express my gratitude to the alien life form pizza braid because without it, I might never have made pie.

I’ve always been afraid of making homemade pie crust.  In my mind, knowing my baking history, homemade pie crust was better left to the “professionals”.  There was no way I was going to even attempt it.  Ever.  Until, of course, the pizza braid disaster of 2009 occurred.  Now I feel like I can conquer the world!

So I made pie.

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.

Did I mention it was from scratch?  As in I did not have to open a box to get to the crust.  I can’t even begin to tell you how scared I was.

I found this yummy recipe, called Pucker Up for Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, from the Makes and Takes blog last week and got up the courage to give it a go.  Marie says she likes to make Martha Stewart’s Pie Crust recipe so that’s what I did.  I had no idea how to do any of that fancy edging stuff (I just pressed it into the side and it kind of did its thing) but take a look at how it turned out.  Not too bad if I do say so myself.

And you know what?  It was easy.  All these years I’ve put it off and low and behold, it was a piece of pie!  (ha ha)

Have you been putting something off due to a fear you have of failing?  Whether it’s trying a new hobby, a new recipe or organizing your closet, don’t put it off any longer.  Just do it and I’ll bet you’ll be glad you did!
