Menu Plan Monday ~ Nov 23rd

Thanksgiving

Hello everyone!  I’m sure those of you in the US celebrating Thanksgiving this week are busy getting ready for the festivities.  We celebrated last month here in Canada.  I always try to prepare almost the entire meal in advance so when the big day arrives I can relax and enjoy my guests.  My favorite make-ahead Thanksgiving recipes include:

Make-Ahead Mashed Potatoes

Slow-Cooked Sausage Dressing

Black Forest Cheesecake (I make ahead and freeze)

The only thing I’ve never tried to make ahead is the turkey but after reading this post of Amy’s, over at The Finer Things in Life, I think I’m definitely going to give it a try one of these fine holidays.

Here are a few other note worthy links this week related to food and Thanksgiving that you might like:

Quick and Easy Fall Centerpiece ~ @ (In)Courage

Have a great one!  I’m thankful to all of you for coming by week after week to join me here as we bless our families and our budgets with our menu plans.

I’m also thankful for my youngest son with is four years old today (Sunday).   I just can’t imagine life without him in it.  The birthday supper he asked for was hot dogs and potato chips so that’s what we had :)

Menu Plan Monday ~ Nov 9th

mpmfall1

Hi everyone!   Hope you are all doing well and ready to get menu planning for an organized week!

So my recipe highlight of last week definitely goes to the slow cooked Rotisserie-Style Chicken.  This recipe was so easy to prepare in the slow cooker and my hubbie gave it a 9 out of 10 for taste!  I say wow to that because he’s a tough critic.    The Makeover Creamy Italian Sausage Pasta recipe was also very good and easy to prepare.  I’ll definitely be adding both recipes to our Family Favorite Recipe Index.

Unfortunately I wasn’t a huge fan of the Oven Chicken Fingers though, they just weren’t crispy enough for me.  I’m going to keep experimenting with recipes on this one.

On my baking list this week is Kristi’s Famous Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins.  How about you?  Baking anything special this week?  Feel free to share your recipe link in the comments.

So here is what’s on our dinner menu:

Monday: Chicken Tortellini Soup (using homemade broth from last week’s chicken)

Tuesday: Slow Cooker French Dip (new)

Wednesday: Baked Chicken and Acorn Squash (family favorite)

Thursday: Leftover buffet

Friday: Baked Ziti with Spinach and Sausage (new)

Saturday: I’m hosting a ladies fondue party! (will post pictures next week)

Simple Supper Sunday

Menu Plan Monday – Nov 24th + giveaway!

Hi everyone!  Many of you will be busy this week with your food preparations in anticipation of Thanksgiving.  Us Canadians celebrated last month but all this talk on blogland about the delicious recipes many of you plan on making is making me drool all over my keyboard :)  If you are posting/linking any Thanksgiving recipes in your Menu Plan Monday post please feel free to put the name of one of the recipes in brackets after your own name so we can all be sure to take a peek.  I love checking out recipes especially holiday ones!

Last week a few of you were forgetting to leave spaces in the Mr. Linky name field.  If what you enter is one big long string of words the columns will be all wonky and I get a little cuckoo.  So please please leave spaces between your words :)  Thanks!

So I thought it would be fun to do another giveaway this week as part of all this holiday hoopla!  Because menu planning has been such a lifesaver for me I love to encourage others to give it a try as much as possible.  I’m not alone in that endeavor and when I can I like to let you know about other great and helpful resources out there.  Today Jamie from Baby Get Green is giving away to one Menu Plan Monday participant a copy of her e-book titled A Month of Meals.  This 71 page e-book, valued at $19.95, is chock full of everything you need to organize and prepare a month worth of meals including menu plans, recipes, shopping lists and step by step instructions.  The menu plans are designed to save you money because meals have been put together that have similar ingredients so that food is not wasted throughout the weeks.

If you’d like to be entered in this giveaway simply link up below to your menu plan for this week and I’ll be selecting a winner from the Mr. Linky list on Wednesday, Nov 26th at 12:00 pm PST.  Good luck!

Here’s what’s on my menu this week:

Monday: Beef & Vegetable Noodle Bake

Tuesday: Salsa Chicken and Black Bean Soup

Wednesday: Saucy Italian Pork Chops served with rice

Thursday: Leftover buffet

Friday: Polynesian Roast Beef served with potatoes and broccoli

Saturday: Hashbrown Sausage Skillet

Simple Supper Sunday: which usually means omelets or grilled cheese or leftovers

And in honor of Thanksgiving, here are a couple of ways to use up your leftover turkey:

Turkey Tetrazzini

Turkey Divan Bake

Creamy Turkey Soup

What's For Dinner?

Menu Plan Monday ~ April 21st

Hello menu planners! I’m so loving the comments from all of you that are new to menu planning and are finally enjoying the benefits menu planning offers. I honestly don’t know how I ever got by when I wasn’t menu planning. Well that’s not true, what I did was muddle along spending way too much money on groceries that I didn’t end up using or weren’t very healthy not to mention all the head space figuring out what to cook for dinner at the last minute took up. Menu planning has made such a huge difference in my life and I’m so thankful to have this platform to encourage and support others to give it a try. So if you are still on the fence, try it for just one week and see what happens. I’m confident, as I’m sure all the other wonderful ladies that join me here each week would agree, that you’ll find it’s worth it!!!

Aimee left me a great question last week that I thought I’d answer here. She asked “do you make something new each night/week or do you have favorites that you go back to over and over again?”. Truth is I’m not a very good cook on my own, I rely on good recipes to make me a better cook. Without them I think I’d be in real trouble. So I figure if I’m cooking with a recipe anyway why not try a new recipe out. I love pouring through my recipe magazines and picking out new recipes to try. I also get bored easily so trying new recipes keeps me excited about cooking. No they don’t always turn out but then I can just blame it on the recipe and not on my cooking….LOL. I will usually break out the tried and true recipes though when company’s coming over, you know just to be on the safe side :)

In case you haven’t seen it yet I’ve put together a separate post featuring helpful online recipe sites and other menu planning resources here.

Recipe highlights from my menu last week include:

Hash Brown Sausage Bake ~ this was a really delicious recipe, a great one to freeze or bring to a potluck
Oven-Baked Fried Chicken ~ yummy, quick and healthy!

On our menu this week:

Monday: Zesty Corn Quesadillas with Spinach Mandarin Salad

Tuesday: 40 Clove Garlic Chicken served with perogies and broccoli

Wednesday: Spud Special Soup with fresh bread made in the bread machine

Thursday: Yankee-Doodle Sirloin Roast served with rice and frozen veggies

Friday: Leftover buffet

Saturday: Burritos

Menu Plan Monday ~ April 7th

Hello everyone!! I hope you had a nice week. First thing up I have to tell you how much I loved the Taco Salad Bowl recipe I made last week. So delicious and easy to make. It was also easy enough to adjust the recipe to make it lower in fat too. I used extra lean ground beef, Weight Watchers 100% whole wheat tortillas and low fat Miracle Whip. Yummy, yum, yum, yum!!

I also want to tell you about a great gluten free site for those of you avoiding gluten. Gluten Free Mommy is a terrific blog with many recipes and resources. She also runs a Gluten Free Menu Swap for gluten free menu planners that you might be interested in.
