My Entryway Closet revisited

Hey gals, so today I’ll show you the rest of my entrance way and how I keep it organized. Just for interest sake though let’s go back and take a look at a picture from last year:

And here it is today:

Okay so not that much different but it amuses me to see the basket shuffle in action :) Who doesn’t love a good basket shuffle? It’s fun to try new configurations to see what can be improved on. I’ve been able to add some pretty wicker baskets this time (they became available from my son’s room when we took down his change table). Of course I’d love it if all the baskets in this closet were decorative ones because the doors are left open so often but that will have to be something that comes gradually over time. Believe me, a good wicker basket on sale is worth the wait! Finding them at the thrift store is even more sweet.

Let’s take a peak inside one of those baskets now. This is where I store entryway essentials like chapstick, hairspray for last minute touch-ups, tissues, change jar, etc..

The other wicker basket holds my purse.

The very top long shelf of the closet organizer holds our extra bags like our carry-ons for when we travel, that kind of thing.  Things we don’t use too often.  The top white basket in the first cubby holds all my hubbie’s ball caps, the next cubby basket is what I call my entrance way junk drawer (can we say catch all!) and the clear container under that holds all our sunglasses.

We try and leave the hanging space on the right free for our guest’s coats when they visit.

Here’s a better view of the entire entryway:

I got the little hat tree by the door through some mail order catalogue ages ago and it makes it so easy for the kids to throw their hats on when they come in the door. No more picking them up off the floor!

So that’s it folks, doors closed.

I hope you enjoyed your peek into my entrance way today. Now I’m off to see if any more of my baskets want to dance with me :)

The Basket Carnival is here!!

Today is all about baskets, containers and totes, woohoo! Talk about exciting, it’s like Christmas for me! All you have to do is take a picture (or more!) of some basket goodness going on in your home and link up to the Mr. Linky below. Easy! Any kind of container creating some order for you is fair game. Feel free to tell us about it as well if you like but no pressure.  There is no right or wrong way to use baskets, if it works for YOU it’s the right way.  Let’s just have some fun!

I’ve also got a surprise for one lucky participant who links up by Wednesday at noon pst. Someone, selected at random from the list of participants, will win one of these excellent little products called the Card Cubby.

The Card Cubby is an alphabetized mini-card file that keeps your coupons, gift cards, business cards, and/or frequent buyer cards organized in one central location. It’ll hold up to 80 cards yet it’s small enough to keep in your purse or in your vehicle console. Wendy Krepak created this product out of her desire to get organized and you can read more about that here. So great!

In my house you’ll find baskets in just about every single drawer and cupboard. I’m pretty sure I’ve shown them all to you at some point or another here on the blog. Well I know I haven’t shown you my undie and bra drawers but that’s probably a little too much information…LOL.

It then occurred to me that I’ve also never shown you the wall of totes that resides in my storage room. I love my rubbermaid containers and use them to hold all sorts of things. Things like winter mitts and hats, snowpants, winter coats, winter boots, hawaiian party supplies (you just never know when you are going to need to be ready for a hawaiian party!), keepsakes, etc.

Now it’s your turn, show me your baskets!!

Show me your baskets!

Have I told you lately how much I love baskets? No? How about containers? Or totes? Or boxes? Or really just about any functional holder of stuff for that matter. I do love them all, they comfort me and I can count on them. When life gets chaotic around me I just have to focus on my lovely baskets and I instantly feel calmer. I see the order and for a moment I forget about everything else.

There are days, as I’m clicking around blogland, that I experience that same feeling just by stumbling upon a picture of sweet organizing bliss. A picture of baskets doing what they do best….establishing limits and boundaries and maintaining order. It’s a beautiful thing! Take for instance, this picture I came across over at Housewife Hiccups:

Love it! She also showed us her “before” pictures, check them out here. How can that not make you happy and provide a little sunshine to your day? Do you feel it? Maybe you need to see more, yes? Well me too which is why next week I want to host a basket carnival. For all of us, to feel a little happy, to share a little love!

On Tuesday (or late Monday night) I’ll put up a Mr. Linky and all you have to do is post a picture of some baskets creating some order in your life and link up here. Easy right? You don’t even have to include words if you don’t want to although if you do then that’s fine too. It’s all good!

Will you join me next week and show me your baskets?

Basket Case!

What?

Don’t you play with your baskets? :)

Howdy partners, it’s kitchen month!!!!!

Yay, it’s time to start organizing our kitchens ladies! How much fun will this be! Don’t you groan at me, it will be, you’ll see!! So to get us all in the mood I opened up my spice/baking corner lazy susan and got busy. I just did a complete overhaul on this cabinet a couple of months ago but over the holidays things got a little crazy on me.

I also had to find room for this little present I bought myself.

100_9088.jpg

You know what those are? My atypical measuring cups that I have obsessed about ever since I first read about them on Pioneer Woman’s Christmas cookie tutorial! Imagine a 2/3 measuring cup….who knew?! I’m terrible at math, you have no idea how happy these make me. SO HAPPY!!

So out came the measuring cup basket. How many measuring cups does one person need? Really this is so not good.

100_9089.jpg

And hello??? Why are there raisins in my measuring cup basket!? My family messes with me all the time. It’s so not funny!! Someone’s gonna get it!!

I did a little purging and it felt sooooo goooood! Oh yes it does and you can do it too and we’ll be high together. I’m like such an organizing drug dealer right now. Come on, you know you want to!

Ahhh that’s better, my basket can breathe again. Words of advice, always keep good care of your baskets. They are your friends.

Now look what else I discovered in my cabinet. You may want to close your eyes, it ain’t pretty.

100_9091.jpg

That’s a big ol pile of chocolate chips, cranberries, raisins and whatever else people who bake actually use to make things. Apparently I should try it sometime. If someone out there has a bigger pile than this I want to know about it because I don’t think it’s possible!

So now it’s your turn!

Saddle up to your kitchen and rope in the clutter.

What area of your kitchen are you working on? Do a little, do a lot, just get busy!

I’ll be offering kitchen tips and encouragement over the next month but you’ll have to wait for it because I’m off to my own kitchen now to stuff my face with chocolate chips. A little birdie told me there were a few extra lying around :)
