It appears I haven’t given out a Storage Star in forever!  In fact I almost forgot about this little feature of mine until I came across this amazing makeover and I thought gosh someone should give this girl an award!  Oh wait, I could do that, she could be my next Storage Star!!

Do you have a designated spot in your home for your sunglasses?  Are you constantly looking for them as a result of not having a “home” for them?  Then create one!  That’s what Madigan from Madigan Made did and I think her idea is absolutely brilliant!!

She took this “lovely” thrift store find:

And turned it into something of beauty in order to solve a very annoying problem she had:

I’ve talked about the awesomeness of Ana White before but I only recently found her blog again.  Apparently she switched over to WordPress and all her RSS subscribers were lost…including me and I didn’t even know.  I was so happy to get reacquainted with her site.  She truly is one talented woman when it comes to building stuff and she shares all the furniture plans she creates for free!

Storage Star ~ Laundry Basket Dresser is a post from: I'm an Organizing Junkie

Oh my goodness I may have swooned when I saw what Diane of In my Own Style did with an old dresser in her mudroom to provide some much needed organization.  I love that she picked up this old hollowed up dresser on the side of the road and transformed it into something completely functional for next to nothing.

Mudrooms and entryways require storage for so many things don’t they?  We need space for things like keys, sunglasses, hats, mitts, library books, handbags, wallets, electronics, sunscreens, the list goes on and on.

What Diane create here was a home for all of it.  She added some shelves to the dresser and some dollar store baskets and voila, storage galore!

Beautiful!!

It’s all about taking the resources we have available to us and making them work for our needs.  This just goes to show you that not all solutions have to cost a lot of money.  I love it!  I also love the way she labeled each of them.  Go on over and read her post for the details :)

You know organizing gets me excited but what gets me most excited is taking something intended for one purpose and turning it into a fabulous storage solution instead.  It’s even more exciting when that product would have just been given away or thrown out.  Re-purposing makes me GIDDY!   I get just as excited when I see other people doing it too which is why I have to share this awesome product re-do with you today (with permission of course).

Samara of Link Adventures took an old wine rack and turned it into PURSE STORAGE!  Goodness so clever!

It fit perfectly in her closet like it was always meant to be!

Storage Star ~ Purse Storage is a post from: I'm an Organizing Junkie

I haven’t posted a Storage Star in awhile but I knew it was time when I saw how Kara, from Kara’s Korner, took a problem that annoyed her and persevered until she found a storage solution that worked for her.  Kara had these awesome shelves in her closet dividing her and her husband’s space.

Kara used these shelves for shoes but the problem was she had more shoes than shelf.  The shelves are really tall so when she tried to stack her shoes on top of each other to maximize space it was difficult to pull out just the pair she needed without shoes falling to the floor.  Yep that would drive me nutso too.

Recognizing what a great space she did have she knew she could improve on its efficiency.  She tried various ideas, including beautiful baskets but that didn’t work for her.  She was still annoyed.  Finally she had her husband add an additional shelf between each of the existing shelves essentially doubling her space and now look at her shoe storage!

Oh my goodness that just makes me giddy.  I love how excited she is by it and I don’t blame her.  I’d be thrilled to have all those shelves in my closet too :)   The additional shelving didn’t cost them any money either because they already had the wood lying around.  Such a great idea and I’m glad that she didn’t give up but kept at it until she found just the right fit for her.

Sometimes we get a system in place that works for many others and then think there must be something wrong with us when it doesn’t work for us.  For example, while baskets work for me (that’s what I use in my closet for shoes) it isn’t necessarily what’s right for others.  Everyone is different and we all have our own unique organizing threshold.  And you know what?  It’s okay.  Do what works for you and don’t give up if you find a system isn’t working as you dreamed it might, just try something else.  Organizing is a PROCESS and sometimes it does take a few tries to get it to where we are satisfied with how the system is working for us.

I always get so excited when I find a blog post featuring baskets, baskets and more baskets.  Woohoo!  Now you know I love my dollar store baskets.  Love them!  I have them in just about every drawer and closet in my home.   However for storage not tucked away in a drawer or closet I like to use something a little more decorative and special than a dollar store basket.  That’s when I switch to wicker baskets.  They are pretty and I love to have them on display.  For instance my toy baskets in my living room are lined wicker.  They just add a special touch to the room and disguise all sorts of thing in a very visually appealing way.

Apparently Caroline of the The Feminist Housewife blog feels the same way.  I stumbled upon the post where she featured before and after pictures of her laundry room shelves and just love the difference it makes.  So beautiful and definitely Storage Star worthy.  I asked her if I could share the pictures with you today and she agreed!

One of the reasons I am so addicted to organizing is because of the freedom it allows me to have by being prepared for most things that might be thrown at me.   Of course I can’t possibly predict and be ready for everything but most definitely I can eliminate many stresses simply by taking the necessary steps ahead of time to be ready for whatever comes my way.  It’s an amazing way to avoid last minute disasters and to embrace spontaneous moments which is the case with our Storage Star today.

Jessica from Life As Mom recently did a post about the activity bags she keeps packed and ready to go tucked away in a closet until needed.  I really love this idea and even do this myself because around here the sun comes and goes so quickly it pays to be ready in order to get out and enjoy it.  And believe me nothing is worse than being out for a picnic by the river on a gorgeous day only to be pestered by darn mosquitos.  Keep bug spray packed and ready to go in your picnic bag and no more worries about forgetting it!

Storage Star ~ Packed Activity Bags is a post from: I'm an Organizing Junkie

I love highlighting posts of lovely ladies that do a great job of coming up with creative storage solutions.  Just yesterday I came across a most excellent post written by Michelle over at Dilly Dally and Flitter.  Michelle takes you through a step by step tutorial on how to take ordinary everyday ugly food containers and make them beautiful for everyday storage.

That picture right there is the reason I will always argue that you don’t need big bucks in order to get organized because seriously these are adorable.  I have a thing for scrapbook paper.  I love it yet rarely do I do anything with it except look at it…because it’s lovely…but I’m lazy so it just sits there.  How happy would my scrapbook paper be if I took it out and well actually put it to good use making these beautiful babies.

Can you recognize the containers?  Bet you never thought a coffee or pringle can could look so good did ya?
