What’s not to love about a good old fashion microwave stand? My goodness do they come in handy or what and the best part is you can often find them at garage sales for only $5.00! They are just so versatile. They provide both open and closed storage and I think it’s so wonderfully convenient to have storage on wheels. If necessary you can also easily paint them out to match any decor too.

With some help of some friends, here are some ways we’ve put our own microwave stands to use.

As it was intended:

As a recycle station in the garage:

As a TV stand with DVD’s securely locked away from curious little hands.

As bathroom storage:

They’d also be great in closets to store clothes, toys or books. So many people under utilize their closet space. A microwave stand could totally help you maximize the space you have. This is very similar to the old TV stand I use in my closet for my laundry basket. Almost everything can be re-purposed in some way or another.

I just thought of something else, wouldn’t a microwave stand make for a great mobile Polly Pocket house. Bits and pieces stay up off the floor and your daughter could move it around to play with wherever she is. You could even take the back panel off in order for her to be able to access it from both sides.

How about beside your desk for your printer, scanner or fax machine?

Gosh the list could go on and on. Please feel free to add your own ideas in the comments because you’ll seriously be feeding my addiction. Inexpensive storage just gets my endorphins racing. Talk about a high!

I’m already itching for garage sale season to start up again. Guess what’s going to be first on my list?

Have I told you how much I love the thrift store? That’s where you can find all sorts of things that can be used as organizational tools for cheap, cheap, cheap.

This week I’m sharing with you a plate rack I purchased for $1.99. Here it is as it was originally designed for.

Lovely although that isn’t how I use it. I decided to use it in my office to hold some of my notebooks. I don’t have a lot of wall space so I love that I am able to leave it on the floor leaning against the wall where it’s ever so handy dandy.

I can also think of two other uses for it. How about as a picture frame holder? (sorry I didn’t have enough of the right size frames for my display)

Or another idea that I just love is as a towel rack for the bathroom. Beautiful!

So what do you think? Can you think of anymore uses?

Okay I’ve got a new fun game for us to play. My good friend Sarah owns the local thrift store so I spend quite a bit of time there. Quite often I find little gems at the store that were originally designed for one purpose but that could easily be adapted or used in so many other creative ways.

Starting today and then whenever I’ve got a new treasure to share with you I’m going to put up a picture of my find and show you some alternate ways to put it to good use. Then I’m opening the floor up to you and if you can think of any other clever uses then please share in the comments. What I’m hoping to accomplish is to inspire us to think a little more outside of the box than what we might be use to in order to come up with some clever organizing solutions that don’t cost a lot of money.

So my find for today’s “How Many Uses?” game is this lovely holder originally designed for spools of thread:

It’s an excellent little organizing device that I also thought would make a great jewelry holder:

or a fabulous holder for my daughter’s growing collection of head bands (this is only a few of them for demonstration purposes):

Not bad for a $1.99!

Now it’s your turn?

How many uses can we come up with?

How many uses for…..a thread holder? is a post from: I'm an Organizing Junkie
