Thanks to Menu Plan Monday I’ve found myself printing off quite a few recipes to try out in the very near future. Most of the time I’ll just save the recipes to my recipe folder on my computer but the recipes I’m pretty sure I’ll want to try soon I print out to have on hand when I go to make my menu up for the week. So I needed some place to put these recipe pages until I was ready for them. I really really hate paper out anywhere so I needed to come up with a system that would allow me to quickly file them, keep them accessible and at the same time contained and not cluttered.

Remember no boundaries = no limits!

This is what I came up with. I simply use a clear two sided type plastic folder that has two half pockets inside. Once I print the recipe out I now have somewhere to quickly place these recipes until I need them (I keep it alongside all my recipe magazines)…..this I can do because it doesn’t require any hole punching or anything and the pages just slip right in. Once I’ve tried the recipe and like it (if I don’t like it the page gets tossed, no use keeping recipes that are no good), I will make a notation on the bottom of the recipe that says when I made it and what changes I would make the next time and then it gets filed back into the folder until I find time to file them as keepers.

My self imposed limit here is that once my folder gets full I simply can’t start another folder…. how I see it is I have two choices. I either MUST get rid of some recipes that I’ve been holding on to and have never tried (if I haven’t made it in the last 6 months chances are pretty good I never will) and/or file the tried and true ones into one of two three ring binders that I keep for this purpose. One is divided for main dishes, salads, dips, soup, appetizers and drinks and the other is for pies, cakes, muffins and cookies. At the end of the day all I’m left with are two binders that contain only our family favorite recipes. Again this is another limit I have set for myself because I only have the space for two binders…once these two binders are full, I either need to toss some or stop trying new recipes!

Welcome to my little home on the net! I’m so happy you decided to stop by. For those that don’t know me my name is Laura and I’m the resident freak! I love love love to organize! What I really love is the “high” I get from it….oh I think it is safe to say I’m definitely addicted. This blog helps further enable my habit by giving me the opportunity to not only blog about my addiction but also entice others to join me….the more junkies out there the less freakish I seem…lol. I’m not an expert by any means, nor do I have the perfect household but usually what I do is just share what works for me around my house and sometimes when I get questions that are way out of my league I simply try to find resources of those more knowledgeable to help you.

Keeping on top of my three children is a challenge so often I am working and re-working my systems trying to find just the right one for us. What I’ve discovered is that organizing is an ongoing PROCESS and a system that works for us today may not necessarily work for us next year or even next month. Constantly re-working my systems not only gives me another “fix” each time I do it but makes for a lot of great blog topics too!

Also popular around here is Menu Plan Monday. Close to 100 ladies come together each Monday to share our weekly menus and often the recipes to go with them. I started menu planning out of necessarity in 2005 when I had to go on a restricted diet for 8 months but now find that I couldn’t live without it. MPM has been amazingly helpful to me to keep me on track and out of the dinner rut! We’d love to have you join us!

Could you use some help getting one of your spaces organized either with motivation and/or accountability? If the answer to that question is yes then you’ve come to the right place! Beginning April 1st I will be hosting the second 30 Day Organizational Challenge and of course we’ll have more prizes to give away! The first one was so much fun and all the participants did such an amazing job. Check out the first challenge here to see what went on and stay tuned for more information on the next one.

I want to thank you again for stopping by. I would have baked you a cake but unfortunately I’m still exhausted from my last baking attempt! So instead I leave you with this big beautiful bouquet of balloons to really help get you in the party spirit.
